I haven’t kept up on prices lately but for a long time 4 bills was common. And I meant the SKS was an equivalent type carbine. Arguably even better (sound of can of worms opening). The question was about a ranch gun. I couldn’t bring myself to carry a $1000 gun around in a 4 wheeler. Certainly not an original M1 carbine. An SKS or an old 30-30? No problem.

An SKS can be found for $400. Actually very equivalent to a Carbine.

Sell scope and rifle separately. ETA: even if the scope is discontinued it’s still a Leupold.

You’re just getting started. There’s lots more to do wrong when you fool with ARs.

Dropped off my Ruger MK IV this AM with Sam Hoster to get chopped, threaded and the front sight reinstalled. Supposed to pick it up next week.

I think I tried to contact him but couldn’t get ahold of him. Do you have a number? This was awhile back.

The Vudoo action is supposed to be the hot ticket right now. Then you need a barrel and stock . Then glass. I don’t know if 2K will do it. I’d be more inclined to buy a Kidd rifle and put $500 worth of glass on it. ETA: Champions Choice are the local source for such things. They are Anschutz dealers I think.

I’m considering one. But, they seem to be scarce in the Nashville area. Are you happy with yours?

The issue is a receiver mounted optic and the barrel not consistently aligning when removed and reinstalled. I haven’t got an optic on mine so it’s not an issue as both sights are on the barrel.

Not reliably returning to zero is a known issue.

I have one I keep at my cabin because it stores away in it’s case compactly. No optic on it because they don’t reliably return to zero. So for me , they have only the one advantage.

10-22 hands down. I have several including a takedown (which is kind of pointless in my opinion).
