The ongoing saga of my motorcycle builds....

Evo and Twin Cam are both good motors, but Evo motor parts are getting harder to find, Harley doesn't make them any more so its new old stock or used. I would go with early Twin Cam, can get them with a carb, so they are easier to work on. Only issue I can think of with the early motors is the cam chain tensioner which did not work properly, buy there are replacements for it. I currently have a 2010 road Glide with 40k+ miles and no issues with it at all. PM me with any questions you may have. -

WTF defund the police, take away our right to self defense, then again our commander and chief doesn't protect our troops so why should he care about the citizens of this country. -

You should check some of the welding forums maybe get some info on other welders, I can comment only on what I’m familiar with

If you want a nice little TIG machine for occasional use get a Miller Diversion. Its a capable welder for small projects. It can run on 110vac but 220 single phase at 20 amp minimum is much better. You can weld aluminum with it, its an AC/DC machine but its a little underpowered for aluminum, helps if you preheat. The gas regulator that comes with it sucks you would need a good flowmeter, single stage. And a tank of Argon gas. I'm not a welder by trade but I've fabricated a lot of stuff in 45 years. I think Miller is doing a $500 rebate on the Diversion right now. If you can spring for a Syncrowave that's the ####.

Back in the 1990's I was at one of my club's IDPA matches and got to talking with a member, turns out he was a NYPD armorer and had a bullet proof vest that was retired by the NYPD. It was the kevlar type for pistol rounds. I was shooting a sig in 357 sig at the time (still have it). We did some testing! Shot the vest with carry loads in 9mm+p 147 grain, 357sig 125 grain, 40S&W 180 grain and 45acp 230 grain. Vest was placed over sandbags. I believe we shot at 10yds. The 9mm load almost punctured the vest not the 357sig as we had expected. We did 8 shots each at different parts of vest. Not very scientific but those were the results as I remember. That being said I either carry 9mm or 45acp nowadays.

There's no substitute for knowledge and experience. Someone who has a skill (and is good at it), and works at it for years is going to be vastly superior to the occasional tinkerer. The job becomes second nature, and to someone watching it seems like your not even thinking about what you have to do to complete the job at hand. I'm a retired toolmaker of 45+ years and have made various obsolete gun parts for friends but there where many other things I would not attempt to do. Ruin a friends gun, maybe not a friend anymore. Have done a lot more on my own guns, if I screw it up who's to blame! I make knives now, starting to get the hang of it after 15 years!!
