Primitive Season Instead of Muzzleloader Season
Louisb replied to 300winmag's topic in Hunting and Fishing
I prefer there be a primative firearm season that limits firearm to lead bullet, open sights. Those others are merely modern firearms along with many of the current crop of modern "frontstuffers". -
Looking for source for 3/8 or 1/2" 8 - 10" gongs . If there is not a good local source then where online? Your experience with 7-08 up to 338 Mag on the two thicknesses would be appreciated.

Untangling The Contender Barrel Fit Delima.
Louisb replied to Sidewinder's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
I think this would be easier to solve if TC was still the owner, because they seemed to believe in great customer service. New owners . . . not sure that level of service is on their agenda -

Set the cylinder gap "close" and even an older 4" 715 ill put the 180 grain cast powered by 296 into a small area. Hitting high but close together with the rear sight bottomed out. Time to make a new front sitht insert . . . Too bad they are a complex shape, that means a lot of file and fit tie for the first version. First version you ask??? No one is wever happy with the first version.

Easiest is likely Franklin Gun shop. Likely others just as good and just as handy -

In the old days many a Type 38 or 6.5X50s were rechambered to the 6.5X57. Slug the barrel to be sure of bore diameter before you start. Some are oversized. The 260 will will just clean up the existing chamber. A lot of folks are put off by the cock on closing and the thumb/palm safety, but in reality how big of a deal is it to require a little more pressure to close the bolt. The thumb safety . . . of all safeties out there it is the one of the most positive and is really no big deal to operate either. Some barrels are pretty rough but will still shoot pretty decent groups, barrel cleaning (even in the jungle conditions) must have been low priority on the training schedule. Find a competent gunsmith and rechamber Read all the anecdotes about the Japanese rifle strength by Ackley and others.

See how an M&P or M&P Compact fit her hand. Comfortable fit is the starting point

Use the google map feature and look for access sites to the rivers/arms of the lake. Satellite view will let you see what it looks like in the area. High water may preclude access during some seasons of the year. Far more access and locations than one thinks there are and lots of accessible shoreline in rocky (fishy) areas.

Make it properly sized with the thicker wood and NO glue will be needed
