It’s the same with most of the folks I worked with, and most were gun owners. But most bought their guns though a gun store, did a background check, and assumed that was done on all gun sales. I even had a couple of them come back later and tell me that they checked and found what I told them about a convicted felon being able to simply get on the internet and buy whatever they want was correct. They found it so hard to believe they had to go check. I’ve never had anyone other than on a gun forum tell me that they think keeping convicted felons or the mentally ill from buying guns is wrong. Most think it’s a common sense thing to do and didn’t know it was such an easy thing to get around. Most citizens don’t really care about arguing whether it has any impact or not. That why I think it will pass or have the required support. Do I support it? No; it will have zero impact.

Not sure why that is…but okay. Sorry if my comment about price pizzed you off. You will find that reputable shops will be experts on your local water, what you need and the amounts of chemicals for set-up, temperatures and required equipment, etc. But that's simply a suggestion from someones that been through it.

I think it's going to happen. I don’t get the idea that he wants anymore in depth checks (I’m not sure how that could happen that anyone would accept); I think he either wants to pay states to require background checks on private sales, or supports a Federal background check requirement on all guns sales in any state. I don’t think the Federal background check will pass SCOTUS muster. (But I could be wrong). I think the overwhelming majority of Americans expect their state to require background checks on all sales, and most uninformed people have thought that has always been the case. But I could be wrong on that also. I hate the fact that requiring them on private sales would have zero impact on murders or mass shootings, but I bet we have to pay whatever the LGS wants to charge. (I think the fee will be a SCOTUS issue also)

Any of you that read my posts on crime issues know I have zero sympathy for violent offenders…none. I saw the results of these animals long enough to have a better understand of them than I would have liked. Curtis Watson was sentenced to 15 years for especially aggravated kidnapping, and classified at that time as a violent offender. That conviction originated with an arrest on charges of aggravated rape or forcible sodomy, as well as aggravated kidnapping. It was reduced to the single charge in a plea deal. The crimes and the charges this man was convicted of showed that he was a thug criminal that belonged locked up without access to innocent people. To allowing him to be out mowing grass and driving around on a freaking golf cart was reckless. Whoever made that decision should be held accountable. This man would have got out of prison without being a registered sex offender. Of course now none of that matters because he raped and murdered a woman.

From this timeline, assuming it’s correct, it looks like he may have been gone for 3.5 hours before local authorities were notified. And for some reason it appears prison officials took 1.5 hours from the time they knew he was gone to notify them. That’s unusual. ------------------------------------------------- Here's a timeline of his escape, given by the TBI. Aug. 7, 2019 7 a.m. - Curtis Watson is released on work detail for daily mowing duties 8:10 a.m. - Debra Johnson is known to be alive, making a phone call. 8:30 a.m. - Watson is seen by correctional officers on a facility golf cart at Johnson's home Between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. - Watson takes a tractor and reflective vest from the prison and drives away 11 a.m. - Prison officials realize Watson is missing 11:30 a.m. - Johnson's coworkers discover her body after she doesn't report to work 12 p.m. - The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is notified of a homicide at the West Tennessee State Penitentiary. 12:30 p.m. - Prison staff alert the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office to Watson's escape. 1:30 p.m. - Authorities locate the tractor Watson took from the prison along with his prison identification card. 1:45 p.m. - Tennessee Department of Corrections Commissioner Tony Parker briefs the governor's office to pursue activation of the Governor's Escape Plan. 3 p.m. - TBI issues a Blue Alert and adds Watson to the state's "Most Wanted" list.

A 50 gallon aquarium is not big. Set it up and enjoy it. Millions of people have 50 gallon aquariums (and waterbeds). How many have you heard of falling through the floor? The answer is none. However someone is about to post their amazing example of how someone they knew had their aquarium go busting through the floor. The important question is fresh water or salt water? Do you have some fish picked out you want?

New law passed for carry permits?
DaveTN replied to jdw174's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Doesn't matter when you renewed your HCP it will be ENHANCED as long as you don't let it lapse. For your DL there is a new federal security gig called REAL ID. Your DL may still be good, but isn't REAL ID. After sometime in 2020 you wont be able to fly on that DL. You need a new one, passport, or some other form of acceptable ID. -
My father in law was one when I was a cop. We had a riot getting ready to start. They pulled up said “Want some help?” Then something to equivalent of “Hold my beer and watch this!” Rioters fear water hoses and dogs more than they do guns.

You just haven’t met any off duty Firemen yet. You think you have a problem with cops…..

Erik, It’s just common sense. Trump has stuff to get done and gun issues is not part of it. But if I hated him as much as you do I would keep bringing up guns. He gets zero change on gun issues. A handful of people are going to be upset if we lose private sales without a background check. For most Americans it’s common sense to try to stop criminals and mental cases from getting guns. They are being told (correctly) that convicted felons can simply buy guns off the net in a private sale with no background check. They think stopping that is a good idea. I’m not sticking up for Trump; I understand its going to happen no matter what he does..period…its happening…So save this thread in your saved stuff, notes, or whatever so if it doesn’t happen you can bring it back up to show me just how wrong I was. About my relationship with The Donald…. Anyone here that reads what I post, whether they agree with me or not knows that I don’t like Donald Trump as a person. He is our President and I think he has done a far better job than anyone you can name that had a shot, and is 10000 % better than Hillary would have been. Him and Hillary were our only two choices in the end. No one else mattered. Now about you assuming I support our President no matter what…. You and a couple of others here berated those of us that wanted Trump to win, you laughed at us, and told us there was no way Trump could win. You were obviously as clueless about that as you are on the issues now. I have never seen anyone on this forum whine and cry more about personal attacks than you. Yet you attack people more for what you think they think, instead of what they say, than anyone on this forum. You should worry more about discussing the issues in an intelligent manner and less about throwing hissy fits, posting pics, calling me a Fudd, and calling me out in threads that I haven’t even posted an opinion in. But that’s okay. I’m a big boy and can handle it. I understand your internet friends have taught you a new word for those that don’t agree with you on gun issues, and have obviously even directed you to a cartoon to post. I can discuss/debate you on the issues, but I wish you wouldn’t reduce it down to childish non-sense. I had decided before to not respond to your posts. But I can’t help it. Some of what you post is too amazing I can’t help but comment….sometimes no matter how hard I try.

Welcome. Did you leave Nash & Young out there?

Any politician from any party would have to be either a dumb azz or not want to be elected to say they don’t support background checks. Will they serve any purpose? No. Do I want to see them? No. Would I say I would talk about them if I was Trump? Absolutely. They are what the American people want he has no choice.
-
Why? Do you think they wouldn't?
-
Until I became a cop I had no idea how many College students were dying from chugging Everclear. (They may have been butt chugging it; I don’t know.) I also had no idea they were dying from sexual gratification either, but that’s for another time.

Kids know the dangers of drinking. They don’t understand drunk vs. BAC. And they don’t understand the science; neither do their parents. They read too much Voodo, black magic, and internet stories. Its like gun safety; it serious business, and they need to get the right information.
-
I can assure you with absolutely certainly your machine was broke or someone did something wrong. You didn’t drink 2 beers wait, 30 minutes and blow zeros. I won’t say what you are saying in your story didn’t happen, I’m saying you weren’t 0.00. (Unless maybe you weigh 1000 lbs.) Your tolerance for alcohol has zero impact on BAC. Sorry but People need to know this stuff. And they need to teach their kids.
-
Then your machine was broke.

Are you old enough to have been going to the bars in the 70's-80's? It's nowhere near now what it was then. DUI enforcement because of MADD did that.

Not on age, but on showing signs of senility. Biden is showing signs of senility and desperation. I assume that is because of age and trying to be Obama 2.0. Trump is just showing signs of being an azzhat.

[COWBOY GUNS] Blackhawk vs. Vaquero? I’ve never been a fan of single action revolvers, but I don’t have a “Cowboy” gun and have been kicking around the idea. I do not want to spend the money on a Colt. It would be a range toy and I’m looking at used guns in the ~$500 range. I have never owned either, but I see a lot of Ruger owners claiming the Blackhawk is a sturdier gun than the Vaquero. Is it? Best I can tell is the Blackhawk has adjustable sights. That’s an obvious advantage, but of course Cowboys didn’t have adjustable sights. I doubt I would ever get into Cowboy Action Shooting, but do they allow adjustable sights? Can you use a Blackhawk there? What say you? Pictures would be great and also pictures of Cowboy leather if you have that.
-
Oh my gosh! Am I a racist because I laughed out loud that he said that?
-
Just kicking the idea around. What do you guys use?
