Obviously the school board members were smoking dope and the cops weren’t. Illinois just legalized weed. They won’t recognize our carry permits because they don’t think we check mental health close enough before issuing HCP’s. But they don’t think allowing stoners to run around high is dangerous. You can’t make this stuff up.

I emailed them about setting up a tour. They said they don't offer tours.

If you think a video posted on SnapChat of a school kid showing several handguns that is titled “Finna be lit,” is a false Red Flag; then yes. The Police investigated and determined there was no threat. No guns were seized and no action was taken by Law Enforcement. That is what is supposed to happen. The problem here is the over reaction by the school. But that shouldn’t surprise anyone. We have seen schools suspend students for making a gesture of having a gun. The parents of all the students need to address what happened. Of course they won’t; they either don’t care or are too busy.

The cops did their job. It appears the school has a procedure it has to follow. (and that is the problem area) This story was posted yesterday. The hearing was also yesterday. I don’t see any follow-up, so my WAG is that this was dropped. It’s a shame though that schools can do that. Unfortunately we live in a time where the stuff you post on social media can get you suspended from school or fired from your job. EDIT: LOVELAND —A Loveland High School teen is back in class today after Thompson School District (TSD) officials apologized and cleared him of a report to “Safe2Tell,” claiming he made a threat on the school, that was actually a family outing at a shooting range. https://pagetwo.completecolorado.com/2019/08/29/loveland-school-district-clears-student-of-any-wrong-doing-over-snapchat-of-guns-back-in-classes/

No, because its not rational and it’s not done intentionally.

Absolutely it’s a buyers market. But the used market is moving slow because sellers are still trying to hold the line. I don’t blame them; I would do the same. We have all sold guns at what we paid, or sometimes more. Those days are gone for the time being. Most of my purchases lately have been new. I get really good prices online, so I can’t justify some of the used prices I see. The online dealers I use are flush with guns and the prices change considerably day to day. I’ve ordered 50 round boxes of Federal HST for what they sell 20 round boxes for in the stores here. I’ve been thinking about the M&P 2.0 Compact. But with low online prices and S&W offering a $40 rebate for veterans; the price for a new gun is lower than most used I have seen. Now the stuff that is no longer available is still on a wild ride. S&W Pre-lock revolvers, and some of the no longer available semi-auto handguns are bringing good money, but if you notice you see some of those sitting a long time. Some folks don’t even want to put a price on a gun, all they want to do is trade. I don’t think that not putting a number on it will help them get what they want; but if it works, good for them. But if they want to sell; I need to see a number in the ad. I have gun money burning a hole in my pocket, and have some guns to trade, haven’t bought anything in awhile and I’m having withdrawals. I gotta find a local FFL that will work with me on GunBroker and FFL’s in other states. I tried to get my own FFL; but that a no go in Murfreesboro. But keep in mind….should a Democrat beat Trump, or they gain control of the Senate; we will be in one heck of a tailspin. The absolute crazy left makes Obama look like he was on our side.

Nonsense, Bud There is a big gap between bottom feeders and gun snobs. There are people that still take pride in what they do and what they make. Some American consumers want it quick and cheap and some American consumers want quality; usually only a price tag separates the two. There are many manufacturers available for both.

It looks like my chances of getting a 92 that is high polish blue, has a Gallatin roll mark, and works the way it is supposed to; is slim. I’ve seen some of those Tennessee Special ones. But I don’t want to pay extra for one from here, especially if it was made by a bad Machinist with a low literacy rate. Nah, I’m still keeping an eye out. Yah know what…?? They had those all over GB and Arms list for $350, $450, that were really nice, well cared for. So, I decide;...I’d do that. All of a sudden since Dave wants one; they are $800…$900…No thanks. (Just kidding...they still have some priced reasonably on GB. I might have to go that route. ) I have several things I’m going to post to try to do some trading. I just have to get around to doing the photography.

I’m a retired Toolmaker that has worked in a lot of different types of manufacturing over the years. Machine Tools, Aircraft, Automotive, etc. My last gig was in Quality, programming CMM’s for First Article Inspection of aerospace parts. I could rattle on for hours about quality and manufacturing, and American made Us Vs. Them, etc. But I’ll keep it short. The lack of quality is because of the lack of quality….period. I’ve seen the Beretta issues blamed on everything from the lack of good machinists in Tennessee to the literacy rate in Tennessee, to the pay scale. The lack of good machinist’s excuse in this state is just silly, and the literacy rate excuse is obviously from someone that has a low literacy rate. The pay scale could possibly keep them from getting good Machinists, but it wouldn’t keep them from making goods Machinists. Nope, those are all BS excuses. If Gallatin is making bad guns or has quality issues; it’s because Gallatin’s Quality inspectors and Quality Manger are not doing their job. And that means their overseer, either Accokeek or Italy is not paying attention. Military contracts aren’t based on quality. They are politics; pure and simple. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and guess that they had some growing pains they are getting under control. Let’s hope so anyway. As far as you get what you pay for…absolutely. Whether its guns or legal advice. Low cost guns have a place and there is no shortage of people that will buy them. They want desperately for them to be good. Same with legal counsel; many can’t afford the lawyer that has the contacts to get them off and they have to settle for the one that can make the best deal they can afford.

High Polish blue might be subjective or not really understood by some of you younger guys. To us older guys; its not. It’s the polished blue finish S&W put on revolvers for many years (and I think you can still get). It’s the hi-gloss blue on the Belgium Browning Hi-Powers from the 70’s. Or the high polish blue of the Remington 870 WingMasters. When you hold one in your hands you will be impressed. However, from the responses if I what I want is still made; it isn’t made here. So I’ll quit looking. So we can’t make a quality Beretta in Tennessee.. WTH?? Save that for someone that will believe it. Also I gotta say… as a Tennessee gun community we are falling down on the job. What’s it been 3 years ago that one of the worlds largest gun makers opened a factory here where they aren’t simply bolting together guns from parts made overseas (as some that want to claim American Made) but are actually machining and manufacturing guns here?? And you Beretta guys seem to be clueless about what’s going on there. If that was a Smith & Wesson facility I would at the very least know what they make there and would probably have all the 411 on everything that goes on there. I’d be at that facility and if that didn’t work I’d be finding some people that work there and taking them out for some beers. Don’t you guys in Gallatin drink beer??

Yep, we are our own worst enemy, we create panic when there is no need. And in those times of panic retailers in our industry are no longer our friends; too many of them anyway, there are a few that try to hold the line. Had all those ammo manufacturers spent a bunch on capitol improvements to output more quantity; they would be hurting, and equipment would be sitting idle right now. I wish the used market would start moving again.

I chose NEST because I have 110V outlets available where I wanted the cameras. They record 24/7 and store online for 5 days. $50/year $30 each additional camera. They will Email you or send a text message when they detect something. You can control them and watch them anytime you want from your phone. RING is good also. When I got mine they didn’t offer anything except the doorbell CAM; I didn’t want that. They now have a floodlight cam that will run 24/7. It needs to be wired in, have a corded added. Their subscriptions are $30 a year. ARLO cameras run on rechargeable batteries so you can put them most anywhere. They only record when they detect something. That didn’t meet my needs so I didn’t go any farther. Crazy Story: NEST is owned by Google. So last week I got this info in an email: So… I have (had) my outside cameras indicator lights turned off. No one needs to know they are there but me; they are after all SECURITY CAMERAS. Google and Nest has decided that their commitment to someone’s privacy (who knows who) is more important than their customers security on their own property. That is something to think about in making your choice.

Dominos ? Peter King backs assualt weapons ban
DaveTN replied to Morgan88's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Oh my gosh, Wait until the kids are gone and reach in and get them. -
He has to pay the state $10. So he's doing transfers for free?
-
That was why I bought new and not used. “It was sold to me as a pistol” isn’t going to cut it. I just think people should be aware of that. That’s a heavy charge.

Unfortunately in Illinois Chicago has won. The Democrats have taken the state back. That’s my home (Down State) and I was looking forward to retiring there when my wife retires. But as crazy as it’s getting and her not knowing if she can deal with the winters; now I don’t know. The same thing is happening here. -
Right, but if someone sells an AR as a pistol, that has a lower from a rifle they had laying around, wouldn’t it be pretty easy to tell from the serial number; if it became an issue? And if it became an issue; wouldn’t it be a felony? I’m thinking about the guy in Sumner Country where someone in his car (not him, but a passenger; I think) had cocaine, and he (Driver) had a PLR-16. If I remember correctly, he ended up with a plea bargain that involved him either having to forfeit the gun or get rid of the gun. Point being; if they are going after you for something else would it not be a free felony to pile on top of whatever they had you on?

Most places charge tax. Amazon does. I have heard people say Buds is now, but I haven’t seen it yet, they didn’t last time I ordered from them. Grab a Gun didn’t the time I ordered from them. I wish they all would, so I wouldn’t have to file to pay all those taxes.

Donuts, Barley Pops, and Snickers bars….I don’t see why they were laughing at that. Isn’t that what most of us eat?

We never got shot with anything, but we had students from the U of I theater group participate in vehicle stop training. It was pretty cool, but I had never seen so may cops killed in all my life. What people don’t think about is that it teaches you that anything less than a controlled felony traffic stop can result in you getting shot unless you absolutely act immediately. Even then if the perp waits for the right moment; you are probably shot. Yeah, we both know there are cops that are azzhats. But it sounds like the problem was your state laws that allowed him to do that.

I’ve been thinking about designing a holster than can be adjusted 360 degrees AND be thin. I just can’t carry with a gun pointed at my junk. Also, doesn’t it poke into you when you sit down? I’d like an angled Cross draw. But don’t worry if I do design it; I won’t model it. And I obviously won’t ask Elliott to model it either.

In Illinois the State Police had their own Academy, Chicago had their own, and then there was Champaign for the rest of the state. They were all accredited the same. Cops were cops as long as they were standing within the borders of the state. (Or outside the state in pursuit) The only jurisdictional issue we really had was that if we arrested someone, we had to take them to the closest County jail and Court. We couldn’t go to Chicago and arrest a suspect and bring him back downstate, without extradition or them waiving extradition. Of course, when they found out they were headed for the Cook County jail if they didn’t waive; most were happy to go downstate. I know you probably have funny stories about knuckleheads that don’t know the law, but we had Park Rangers in our city parks. This was before the internet and it was going around amongst the kids that if the Park Cops tried to stop you and you ran out of the park; they couldn’t do anything. Or if the Park Rangers were out in the city; they couldn’t stop you. I can’t count the number of times I’ve backed up a Park Ranger and watched a teary-eyed kid watch their car or motorcycle roll off on a wrecker. They would always ask me “Can he do this, is this legal?” I always told them if you are going to become a lawyer on a traffic stop; you probably should know the law. We also had smaller towns around and some thought if you made it from one town to another it was olly olly oxen free. Imagine their surprise.

So immediately we are back to “If you see something say something.” That’s all anyone is asking. It’s impossible for Police to have the manpower to monitor social media. So, they must rely on “If you see something say something.”. They ask family members to come forward, if not, they ask neighbors or others to come forward. Families need to be educated. The Police doesn’t have to be the first call they make. They can get help from mental health folks. I would guess cost is the reason they don’t do that. Yes, the cops need to do good old fashion Police work. Investigate and either act or mark it “unfounded”. It happens thousands of times daily. Cops are people. You have some that can be sent and the problem will end. And you have some that don’t want to do their job. As fewer people want the job you will probably have more of the latter. But make no mistake, if you are threatening someone with violence most cops will arrest you, put you in jail, take your guns, and hand it off to the DA and courts; as it should be. As I have said here many, many times; you don’t have due process now. The cops can come and take your guns. I support due process. That’s all Red Flags laws are, they aren’t laws that allow the cops to seize your guns; they can already do that. Red Flag laws (should) lay out the due process of what is going to happen. If you don’t like that don’t support it and ask for changes. If you don’t support Red Flag laws just because of their name or because you don’t understand what they do; tell your legislators you don’t want them at all and are good with the cops doing whatever they like. Okay, you are paranoid. There is no gun show loophole. That’s a name the left uses because they want people to think its fixing something that isn’t happening. People were being led to believe FFL’s were selling at gun shows without background checks. That is not what was happening and if it was; they were committing a felony. They want to outlaw all private sales without a background check. For a long time they didn’t want to say that; now they will. Do I agree with it? No, but I know its going to happen. It’s political suicide for most any politician to say he doesn’t support background checks. Yes, you will have your THTHTOAG’s (Trump Haters That Happen To Own A Gun) blaming him for it. But it will probably come at the state level. My guess is the Feds haven’t passed it yet because they know it won’t pass SCOTUS muster unless the states do it. We will see. I am a Patriot that does not fear my government. I have no reason to. I believe that background checks will stand or fall on their own merit. But I do not believe for one second they would create a registry. That’s why I addressed your paranoia comment. Hallelujah brother, that’s what I have been saying forever. I don’t even think that most places need more cops. Unhandcuff the ones you have and let them do their job. Back them up when they are right and deal with them when they are wrong. Send violent offenders to prison. Save the probation and house arrest for non-violent offenders. If we can’t house the violent offenders we have, build more prisons; it won’t cost nearly what the Green New Deal will cost, and it will be better for honest citizens. The most obvious example of this problem is Chicago. Kim Foxx obviously hates cops and thinks minority violent offenders are getting a raw deal. But it’s becoming more common in other cities. Mental health is the key. But not just as it pertains to guns. Some kids are brought up by parents that shouldn’t have pets let alone kids. Those kids don’t have a chance of functioning normally as adults when they get out in the harsh real world. Once they decide their life isn’t worth living; laws no longer matter to them. And the only fix is detection and neutralization of the threat before they act. ***** Pop Pop, I think you sound frustrated just like most of the rest of us. Heck I’m almost as pro-gun as anyone can be. I say almost because I don’t think because someone is a criminal that happens to use a gun, they are like me, or that legislation that addresses their criminal acts are somehow a violation of my rights. But that's not popular on a gun forum with some. I support due process. We do not have that now as far as gun confiscation goes. Cops can take your guns if they have a valid complaint; when and if you get them back is anybody’s guess. That’s not right.
