  1. Thanks, Hozzie, shipping has been what’s held me back from using the National sites. (That and in the past I thought if stuff didn’t sell; my price was too high. That’s just not true now. Not much moving.) Its been a long time ago, but I got into it with the azzhat “Security Officer” at the UPS HUB in Murfreesboro when I was trying to do what’s right and declare a firearm. They absolutely don’t want our business; so I’d just as soon not give it to them.
  2. That’s the story I would stick with. I put a red dot on a firearm backward once to take pictures for a sale. I didn’t pay any attention or even look through it. Someone emailed me “your sight is on backwards” might have been on here.
  3. How was your experience? Do you use an FFL for shipping or FedEx? If you take a gun to an FFL that will ship it for you, do they have to do paperwork, or do they just ship it?
  4. I’m going through that now. My parents are trying to sell their house to move to assisted living. My Dad wanted me to come and pick up some tools. I filled a crew cab pick-up (inside and bed) and still have to go back for more. Its hard for him to accept that he can’t use that stuff anymore…sad.
  5. That’s why they call it the old man’s tool store.
  6. The rifle you are looking at is a Model 11 because it’s a short action. A Model 110 is a long action.
  7. The new Model 70’s have the controlled Round feed of the Pre-64’s. But doing either with a quality scope for a grand would be a challenge. From 65 to present in used should be doable. And I’ll say this… I haven’t put them head to head in a controlled test yet, and my Model 70 Super Grade is an absolute beauty, but I don’t think it can outshoot my Remington 700 VLS. A 700 is going to be his best bet in a high quality rifle and a high quality scope for a grand or under....IMO.
  8. My favorite handgun round is the 158 grain .357 Mag JHP. The 40S&W is the closest thing to it in the semi-auto world. I keep both handy.
  9. No, 40 is manly stuff not silly stuff. I don’t think I’ll give the examples of what I was thinking of.
  10. So, you think it's made in U.S.A. China?
  11. That Sinatra Select Jack Daniels looks like something I would like to try. But at $130 a bottle; I’ll have to wait until I’m at someone else’s house that has it.
  12. I have found that these guys on here are more than willing to help spend money….when it isn’t theirs. Security Six is a sweet revolver; I think you will be happy. BTW…..Pics or it didn’t happen.
  13. This hobby or our is absolutely loaded with stuff that makes no sense whatsoever….but people will spend huge amounts of cash on some of them.
  14. Here is another one that makes the rounds....
  15. I just took a quick look at GOC and they are several there locally that would fit the bill. That $1000 budget should be pretty easy to do; even on new. That $500 can be done with some used quality stuff I saw, but you might have to stick with the proven performer rounds, instead of those designer rounds. I have a Remington 700 VLS in 308 with a VX-III LR 6.5-20x40mm and a Winchester Model 70 Super Grade in .243 with a Leupold VX-2, 3-9X4. The VLS is probably heavier than you would want. They are both more than your budget, but you are welcome to try them if you like. I don’t hunt, but a quality bolt action is a thing of beauty. If I did hunt my choice would be my AR 10. There are plenty of FFL’s to transfer to in Murfreesboro. I order a lot of guns online anymore. Who is that?
  16. Kids. Nothing wrong with the old school 06. Military surplus ammo still available for trigger time. I’d go with the .308 Winchester. Besides being the best rifle round known to man, every possible bullet is available from cheap military FMJ to the highest quality match ammo in the world. Tons of bolts and scope combinations available for under a grand. I like Remington 700, Leupold.
  17. They don’t have time to put it on the news. They are too busy telling us every night about how many people the convicted felons in possession of stolen firearms shot that day.
  18. I wish they would just go ahead and say what the guns were in these shootings. Instead of asking about the victims, the press was obsessed with what kind of gun it was (hoping for an AR) and how he got it (hoping for getting it from someone that had it legally). He shot five people and them himself with a .45 handgun that was then out of ammo. So it could have been a gun with 10 or less magazine capacity. (Won’t they have a field day with that) Now they are printing stories that it may have been a Ghost Gun that he built from parts he purchased off the net. Wonder how that story started? Again…. this was a shooter that obviously had no fear of dying and did not care about any laws. To stop him a second shooter was needed immediately; but they weren’t there.
  19. I bought a AR Pistol for a trunk gun. In case I needed more firepower and had a chance to get to it. I wasn’t about to be the test dummy for the “Its not a stock; it’s a Brace case.” So I didn’t put one on. It would be almost impossible to use open sights without a stock. So I went with a red dot. The whole idea was a loser. An AR without a stock is worthless. It’s good as a conversation piece; but that’s it. I wondered who came up with this dumb azz idea; then I remembered it was me. I’m going to sell this bad idea when I get around to it, and just buy me a cheap AR Carbine. I’ll put a scope on it and put this Vortex Venom on a handgun where it belongs. Not often do I admit I’m wrong. (Cause I’m usually not.)
  20. I’m not a hunter, and I don’t kill animals, I can’t even catch a groundhog in a trap (although I’ve managed to catch everything else in the area). My “Varmint” rifle is a .308 Winchester. But if you need something more powerful than a .22LR, that doesn’t cost a lot, I would think the obvious answer would be a .223 Remington??
  21. I love .22’s also and I never had even a little bit of desire to own a .22mag. Just like me, everyone is going to have an opinion. But the only one that matters is yours. Is there some reason or application you think a .22mag would be good for? I’m not saying you shouldn’t get it; I’m just curious why you want it? Discuss.
  22. I always give the cops the benefit of the doubt. I’ve never made any excuses for that. Until they don’t deserve it. This is one of those cases. I hate it that you are talking to some lazy azz cops that don’t want to do their job. Hopefully that paperwork will get the attention of a Metro cop that’s on top of things. You can’t go meet this guy. He’s a criminal and he’s armed. How do you think that will end?
  23. Well sure…they will list junk ammo; some people buy that. Put in your caliber, Put in Federal, put in HST and hit enter. Look at those names on the left. Those aren’t sites trying to pass something off; a lot of the Big Boys are listed there. It’s just one option to get you to some web sites. Personally I don’t think any of those ammo search sites keep up on the sales, but just use them as a starting point in addition to the sites you know you want to check. But yes, if you just put in your caliber, the first results are going to be steel case cheap ammo because its listing them by cost per round. Try these.... 24. So, what you are telling us is there is going to be a YouTube video of someone trying to do that while holding it between their legs, with it plugged in, and then hitting the on button?
  25. There are many that are good, maybe some others will post some they have had good luck with. You just have to watch for sales. For example, I’ve bought Federal HST handgun ammo at nearly the price of range ammo at Target Sports USA when they ran a sale. I would say the next two weeks leading up to Black Friday will be the best time to stock up. I haven’t been to Wal-Mart since they announced they would stop selling ammo, but they have always been the lowest price I could find on WWB and UMC bulk packs. Target Sports USA is probably the one I have used the most lately. https://www.targetsportsusa.com/ I’ve used Freedom Munitions ammo, and its been good. https://www.freedommunitions.com/ The prices aren’t too bad at the new Sportsman Warehouse on Thompson Lane in Murfreesboro. Not as good as online, but sometimes that’s not an option. https://www.sportsmans.com/
