  1. You can shoot it anytime man…. you just can’t open carry it.
  2. Thanks What model sight was that your were showing me?
  3. Thats not what I meant when I said "give me a reason".
  4. As I posted in another thread I have needed an evil black rifle in .308. Joe (Hero-Gear) told me he had a couple and I decided to drive down to take a look. I did not intend to buy today (funny how that happens isn’t it?). I wanted to check-out his place anyway. When I first arrived I was surprised at the selection he has. He has something for everyone. When I went into the gun room it was kinda crowded in there. But as soon as I started wielding a .308 Panther around like I had never handled a rifle in my life and asking Joe if he had any loaded magazines; it emptied out quickly. I really wanted the TAC20, but since the delivery would be so long Joe put the DPMS Panther LR-308AP4 in my hands. It is sweet. Joe is very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. It was refreshing to talk with a gun dealer that truly seemed to be interested in customer support. Since I moved to Tennessee I had not found a dealer that seemed to care if he got my business or not; that changed. Joe explained to me that I really needed this weapon. When I told him to give me a reason to buy it today, he said that since I hadn’t pizzed off any forum members this week he would give me the TGO discount. I feel that I got a fair price and Joe made enough to stay in business. Well enough about me and Joe. Here is what I got. If it shoots as good as it looks and feels I will be happy.
  5. The only three candidates that I see having a chance are Hillary, Obama and Thompson. <O:p</O:p If Hillary or Obama is elected we as gun owners are in trouble. Obama wants to ban guns period. He openly says that he wants to ban all semi-automatics. There go most of our handguns and all of our evil black rifles. In reading statements by Obama, I’m not sure that be knows that semi-autos and assault weapons are not the same thing. But maybe he does. <O:p</O:p Hillary is every bit as anti-gun as he is; but she is older and wiser and knows that she should not make wild azz statements until after she is elected. <O:p</O:p In the last few years we have seen states implementing carry permits. While that certainly is not recognizing a Right; it is a step in the right direction. This election could put a serious damper on that.
  6. I just missed you guys. Joe made me buy a new toy while I was there. I’ll post about it later when I have some pics. I’m just drooling over it right now. Hey Joe, great meeting you and Rod…
  7. Times are changing. Restraining orders or a domestic violence arrest will soon be the kiss of death to even purchase a firearm. The haters are struggling to ban anyone with anything in their past from having guns. The VT shooting has caused debate that mental health records should be made available even when no arrest was made. This would open the door to ban anyone that has been through drug & alcohol rehab or anger management. I have a 20 year old misdemeanor arrest in Illinois for illegal possession of a firearm that was dismissed. It has caused me to be denied a firearm purchase and have to appeal and wait four days every time I have bought a firearm in Tennessee. I have a C&R license from the ATF and even have a letter from the FBI that the charge was dismissed. I have purchased many firearms in Illinois, Alabama and Florida with no problem. TBI is doing this and there isn’t anything I can do. They say it is the Feds fault because the laws ban them from keeping any information they obtain on a background check on file. I have been dragging my feet on getting a carry permit for that reason. I assume that it will be denied and I will be out $250. Good luck on getting it straightened out.

    Send off for sights?

You need a sight tool to change the sights. Any competent Gunsmith that has the tools and knows which direction the sights go on and off should be able to change them. On Target in Murfreesboro has a Gunsmith. Their web site says that changing sights is $30 (no milling). Give them a call and ask... 615-890-2960 http://ontargettn.com/custom_gunsmithing.htm I had Meprolight’s (I think that is what Kimber uses) on my Kimber. They are good if you need night sights. I sold my Kimber and bought an S&W 1911. It has adjustable blade type sights on it, which I like a lot better; but it is mainly a target gun. Depends on your application.
  9. It is because of the titanium cylinder and it only applies .357 loads. The smaller bullets and the slower burning powders in the “reduced recoil†ammunition expose the front of the cylinder to the blast longer. That will destroy the protective coating on the titanium and damage the face of the cylinder.
  10. Incoming PM.
  11. Wow... I had no idea I have been looking at it for a long time. DPMS Panther LR-TAC20 looks pretty interesting. It has a $1254 MSRP and it looks like a $1000 street price.
  12. Why did BushMaster quit making them? There’s probably something wrong with it…. You better think about selling it to me.
  13. Kids....
  14. I’m in the market for a 7.62 AR. So far I have been looking at the Rock River Arms, DPMS and Armalite. I collect military and law enforcement weapons and I want to pass this off as my “Vietnam era†rifle. I know it should be an A2 in .223, but all of my weapons are shooters also; and I just can’t buy a .223. I’m also thinking it should be a flat top. I’m kinda leaning towards the RRA LAR-8 Standard A4 Rifle. Its MSRP is $1100, so I’m thinking I should be able to find a pretty good deal on a used one. Any others? Do any of you guys have any of these rifles?

    I need a Shotgun!

Home defense shot gun threads are always just a bunch of post telling you to get a Remington 870…. And there is a reason for that. I doubt this one will be any different.

    Its on the way!!

Congrats on the Kimber.... you will like it. Did you see any in 7.62 flavor?
  17. I can’t even guess how many people I have arrested. But I can assure you they weren’t all single, 20 something, black males living with their moms.
  18. The concept isn’t that poverty causes crime. As the economy gets worse crime will rise and that’s not a concept it’s a fact. As someone else pointed out there are a lot of criminals that would work if they could. But when people start losing their homes or can’t feed their family; they will steal, burglarize houses, sell drugs, or just about anything else. I’m not condoning it or asking anyone to feel sorry for them, but you ain’t seen nothing yet. Look at how many young people today think that stealing money by using a computer is more acceptable or somehow different than if they took it from your home. They also would rather blame the government or some other country for our economic problems instead of talking a look in the mirror at the real problem.
  19. Ouch... that’s going to leave a mark.
  20. No amount of anti-gun legislation could have stopped Cho from obtaining a gun. I think we can all agree that is a fact. Drugs are illegal but if you want them you can get them. What we do not know, and will never know is what would have happened if Cho had encountered armed citizens in the first room he walked into. But I don’t think it could have ended any worse than it did. Training isn’t an issue with these people either. They just don’t want you to have guns. Cho could have used a car, ax, or chain saw and there would still be a flurry of hand wringers thinking that there needs to be some kind of legislation to address what happened.
  21. So… you are driving down the street and someone cuts you off. In traffic, almost hitting you. You and the other driver have the typical road rage exchanges. You pull into a gas station to get gas and the other driver pulls in. He gets out of his car yelling and cussing at you asking you WTH you think you were doing. You try to walk away but he grabs you by the shoulder and spins you back around, yelling “don’t walk away when I am talking to you!” I suggest that if you believe he is going to hit you, you are justified in hitting him or using mace. You are saying that under Tennessee law you can just kill him and call it a day. You just tell the cops you were scared and everything is okay? Does that pretty well sum up your understanding of the Tennessee deadly force laws?
  22. Okay… I’m apparently having problems with reading comprehension. How else can the following statement be interpreted. I said I’m not arguing Tennessee law. I’m looking to you for information and guidance oh great one. That statement is absolute BS in any state I’m familiar with and I am asking what in the Tennessee law would give any creditability to that statement. Fill me in.
  23. Anyone that is qualified should be able to train citizens in firearms training. Only lawyers, preferably someone from the States Attorney’s office in the county you live in should be able you teach the laws. Look at all the signatures in the gun forums. It sometimes seems that half of them are some kind of certified firearms instructors, but when you ask a legal question they are either clueless or give you their interpretation. Do you really want to risk your very freedom on the advice of someone who is an IT guy during the day and plays a firearms instructor at night? I hope no one here ever has to find out just how wrong that statement is. Again… I would have to see that simply being scared justifies the use of deadly force in Tennessee.
  24. Let me give you all this piece of advice from a former cop. If you ever have a run in with someone, have to threaten force… or whatever. DO NOT JUST LEAVE. Be the first caller… be the “complainantâ€. If safe to do so wait for the Officers to arrive, if it isn’t safe let them know where you are. If you leave there is only one side to the story… theirs. I can’t tell you how many times Officers have had to put out a pick-up on someone because the Officer did not get to talk to them. A couple of days later you are stopped, arrested by an Officer that doesn’t know anything about the case, your vehicle is towed and you are jailed.
  25. Well anyway…. What I was getting at in Illinois if you believe an unarmed person is going to commit a battery on you; you can use whatever force a “reasonable person†(that means a jury) would feel is necessary. You could punch them, hit them with a baton, zap em’ with a taser; and you would be okay. But if you shot them you would go to prison. (Maybe not if you are a liberal democrat from Chicago; but it still would not be good.) Sorry I’m using Illinois as an example, but I’m crystal clear on the deadly force laws in Illinois; I’m still learning Tennessee’s. Oh… and BTW… even in Illinois if someone threatens you with a knife; go ahead and drop them they are bought and paid for.
