  1. Job of what… looking ugly? And therein lies the problem. A firearm is useless without being able to put your finger on the trigger. I can do it with all of my handguns without the fear of an ND. (Even my 1911 at condition 0) I hope it never happens to you, but if it does, know full well that you will be added to the long list of “He must have been inexperienced and pulled the trigger†In a potential deadly force situation my finger will go on the trigger before I make the decision to fire. So I think I’ll stick with the firearms that let me decided when to fire.

    SKS or Ruger 10/22?

It takes about three weeks. I saved the thirty bucks it cost on my first Midway order. (They give dealer pricing to C&R holders.) If you want military collectables you might also want to look into meeting the requirements for buying from CMP. Anniston, AL is a great toy store.

    SKS or Ruger 10/22?

Everyone needs a rimfire; just for trigger time. When faced with that I decided I had two choices. Buy a 10/22 that I could build to be accurate, or buy a 597 that was accurate out of the box but would most likely have feeding problems to work out. I decided to go with the 597. It took some time, but I got all the feeding problems worked out and it was a decent rifle for practice.
  4. Oh, I’ve seen it first hand. However I think we had a little better financial and legal backing than she may have. But hey… if she’s using a girly round like a 9mm in an APARTMENT COMPLEX, a few “fliers†will probably be okay with the neighbors.
  5. Well… first I would call Smith & Wesson service and see what they tell you. They take care of customers and cut some pretty good deals on repair work (like for free sometimes ). But if you don’t like the price they shoot you, it won’t cost that much more to have the entire gun blued by someone; I doubt anyone could match the bluing. Todd Watts in Christiana did one for me (S&W Model 19) and it turned out great. Considering the cost of shipping a handgun it was a very good deal.
  6. Rarely will I say this…. You didn’t have a negligent discharge; you had an accidental discharge. There was negligence but it was on the part of the clown that put that gun in your hands. But you have already been offered help here from some folks that are professionals. Good Luck.
  7. I can’t, I already tested the 2nd amendment and got my azz handed to me. I have been gone for awhile, so I guess Barack Obama could have got that passed.
  8. Professionals like FBI SWAT, FBI HRT, LAPD SWAT, and others I’m sure?
  9. It’s not statewide. You can be loaded to the max in your own home. You just can’t carry. I doubt that’s even the case in Chicago(except for handguns); but I don’t know that for sure.
  10. But a M1 carbine might be. According to one of the guys from Thunder Ranch that is the best choice for a home defense weapon for a woman. Sorry.... I'll shut up now.
  11. I didn’t mean to imply that it did. We had discretion on whether or not to make an arrest on a misdemeanor. We did not have that discretion of a felony. If it was a misdemeanor we could either take the person in and book them into jail and make them post bond. Usually used in a situation where the arrested was being uncooperative or the Officer felt that the situation would continue. Or we could release them with a field NTA (Notice to appear). That was usually used when the situation was over and the offender was not violent. On a felony arrest they were booked into jail and could not bond until they went before a Judge. Is Tennessee much different than that?
  12. I knew that as soon as I saw the helpful quality of your post. I was simply agreeing with you.
  13. You’re probably right. A gun forum with members that have hundreds of year’s total of experience should stay out of it and just send her to a gun store clerk. We have far more important things to talk about than helping someone that has ask for help.
  14. Finally…. That’s exactly what I thought would be the case. It’s no different that the state where I was a cop. If you commit a crime you get arrested; end of story. I didn’t think Tennessee would be that much different than most states. But hey… I’m still trying to learn Tennessee law.
  15. Maybe this will help you get some ideas. Upper left. Smith & Wesson Model 36. That size is referred to as “J-Frames†Five shots of .38 SPL. (some models are available in .357mag.) It’s a steel frame and weighs 21 oz. Highly concealable. It’s somewhat controllable with .38+P’s, but requires a lot of practice. That frame is available in .357mag, but in my opinion it boarders on being uncontrollable for most people; especially in an alloy frames. Upper right. Smith and Wesson Model 66 with a 2.5†barrel. This size frame is referred to as a “K-Frameâ€. Six shots. Shoots either .38 or .357Mag. It’s stainless steel and weighs 31 oz. larger package than the J-frame but far more controllable and accurate even with .357Mag loads. These aren’t made anymore and are hard to find. (But I just found one last week on this forum.) Middle left. Smith and Wesson Model 686 with a 4†barrel. This size frame is referred to as an “L-Frameâ€. Six shots. Shoots either .38 or .357Mag. It’s stainless steel and weighs 40 oz. in a 4†or 35 in a 2.5â€. This replaces the model 66 and is a little larger and heavier. Not very concealable unless you wear a jacket. Great nightstand gun and doesn’t have any safeties to mess with. Pick it up and pull the trigger. Middle Right. Smith and Wesson M&P 40 (Full size) 15 rounds of .40 S&W. Yes… you are into some serious firepower now. It’s a semi-auto that weighs 25 oz (empty) in the full size or 22 oz. in the compact version. The full size is not real concealable, but carries well. And 15 rounds of .40S&W is a lot of firepower in this package. The compact is much more concealable and is a popular carry gun; it’s 10 rounds. Bottom. I just threw this in because you will see a lot of talk about the 1911. This is a Smith &Wesson stainless steel 1911. It weighs 40 oz empty. 8 rounds of .45ACP. This is the pinnacle of handgun firepower. It’s not very concealable and it’s heavy. It is the undisputed king (by most) of having the ability to make an armed assailant unable or unwilling to fire a weapon at you. The top guns in this category are highly accurate at long distance and are popular competition guns. They also come in cheap packages that are lucky to fire every time. Not something you will want to start out with but most people that get into handguns will own at least one. Revolvers Vs. Semi-autos. Unfortunately there is no way to practice for what your body and mind is going to go through in a deadly force situation. You need to practice a lot. The mechanics of how you practice will probably determine how you react in that situation. A semi-auto requires a lot of practice to become proficient in loading and chambering a round; especially in a high stress situation. My wife has no interest in guns. Therefore I keep loaded revolvers around her. She knows that all she has to do is point and pull the trigger; if the gun does not fire, pull the trigger again. My semi-autos are loaded but don’t have a round chambered when they are in the house. She would not be able to use them, and as long as she has revolvers laying around; has no desire to learn. Good luck finging what will work for you.
  16. Sometimes you just have to have fun on the forum.
  17. So what are the cops going to do with the perps? Drive off and leave them, wait while someone goes before a Judge and gets a warrant?
  18. Good links. Okay that makes it pretty clear that you can be arrested for a misdemeanor whether a cop sees it or not. Now a question about the arrest warrant. A couple of thugs are making a scene in a restaurant. The owner or manager asks them to leave. As they are leaving one of them punches the owner/manager in the face (misdemeanor assault). The police dispatcher sends a couple of Officers and gives them a description of the perps and a vehicle description with a plate number. One of the responding Officers sees the vehicle and stops it. The victim is brought to the vehicle stop and ID’s the guy that punched him. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that the perp is going to be hauled off to jail. Is that correct or is someone going to go see a judge to get an aresst warrant? And if so in Athens, TN the victim is going to be charged $75?
  19. So… the bank security guard or the bank manager tells you that you are carrying in violation of Tennessee law (If that’s the case, and I don’t know that it is) and that he is detaining you until the Police arrive. What are you going to do…. run?
  20. Good post. Those links and the multitude of links contained in them authorize a misdemeanor arrest under every possible condition. I’m still unclear as to what misdemeanors that you can commit that you can't be arrested for if there is a complainant.
  21. Point me to it. I’m not an expert on Tennessee law; so fill me in. Shoplifting, battery, domestic violence, providing handguns to juveniles, ….and on and on. These are misdemeanors, and you are saying that Police Office has to witness them to make an arrest? I would guess that Tennessee Police Officers have discretion on a misdemeanor, but not on a felony.
  22. I find that hard to believe.
  23. I didn’t flame you or call you stupid. My remarks were prompted by you implying that everyone that doesn’t get their panties in a bunch when they see a “no gun†sign has their head in the sand. People have rights and business owners have rights; if your okay with trampling all over theirs don’t get pizzed when someone walks all over yours. (not directed specifically at you) As a gun owner if pizzes me off to see the attitude of some people that think they can just ignore theses signs. That won’t help anything; what that will lead to is the legislature making it a criminal act with immediate revocation or your permit. So… you tap danced with this guy and then let him walk all over you. If I felt strongly enough about this to start calling forums members ignorant over this I would have told him right then I’m canceling all business with his bank....that’s not complicated at all.
