  1. That's where I bought mine.
  2. Why can't you just put a Turner on it?
  3. Federal law allows an FFL to transfer a long gun to someone from another state if they are in compliance with the laws of both states. (The “both states†part is why some dealers won’t do it.) If the gun is being shipped across state lines for the transfer; an FFL must make the transfer to the buyer. I have heard that there are some laws about allowing long gun transfers between states that are adjoining; but I have not seen them.
  4. As in my original post; I do. However… I own and shoot 1911’s that were born without birth defects, so I think they will go easy on me.
  5. I really don’t have a problem with flopping down the money for a reloading set-up if it would save me money. But I really don’t have any interest in reloading as a hobby and from everything I have read it really doesn’t save you much, if any. I would like a nice full size, full weight .22, but the S&W 617 is about the only one I know of. I saw some posts about a Kimber 1911 Rimfire but supposedly it was real light and cost as much as a real Kimber. (I don’t have a problem with the price; but not if it feels like a toy in your hand) I would guess that a .22 would have problems working the slide of a full weight .45. But maybe there is one out there; I don’t know? I haven’t owned a 9mm since the 80’s but I thought 9mm was about half the price of .45ACP; is that not right?
  6. The S&W 617 pre lock and the Springfield PI9134L are the two I'm looking at.
  7. I have many reasons, but at the top is money. I’m skilled trades (Toolmaker) and at the time I could make much more as a machinist than as a cop. That is not the case today. Not to mention that if I had stayed I would have been able to retire already.
  8. Most cops are good people, and most people don’t tell the stories about meeting the good ones. He didn’t have an attitude and neither did you.

    G-19 or XD 9

    Another vote for the M&P.
  10. I owned a Belgium browning HP in 9mm. It was a beautiful gun and one I wish I had not sold, but I want to stick to the 1911 platform.
  11. I know it’s sacrilegious to even speak about in public, but here is what I’m faced with… I’m trying to decide on a new gun and I was thinking about something that I could punch holes in paper with cheaply (ammo wise). I’m trying to decide between a Smith & Wesson 617 and something along the lines of a 1911. IMO the Smith & Wesson is the perfect .22. It’s the size and weight of a 686, so it would allow me cheap practice for my other revolvers. I don’t want a .22 conversion kit for a 1911 because I wouldn’t want to mess with changing it out all the time. I’m not aware of any quality (size, weight, etc) 1911’s in .22 cal so that leaves me with the 9mm. I have never owned a 9mm 1911 but hear the stories of failure’s to fire and failure’s to eject. Have you guys that have them experienced this? Any other ideas from the rest of you? Keep in mind these won’t be carry or defensive handguns, they are for practice only.

    What barrell length?

Well you start with a full size steel or stainless 1911 and everything is a trade off from there. Obviously a full size 1911 is big and heavy for concealed carry; but then that is not what they were designed for. You trade off accuracy as you shorten the barrel and you trade off controllability as you lighten the frame. Now having said that… accuracy should not be a real big issue (Assuming a quality 1911) as you should not be using sights on your carry weapon and you will be shooting at very short distances. Controllability is a big issue. If you can’t come back on target quickly and accurately for that second round; pick something else.
  13. Maybe it’s because I am a Toolmaker; but I like mechanical quality. Quality that you can feel and quality that you can see. So I tend to like Smith &Wesson revolvers and 1911’s. Same thing in rifles, I don’t hunt but I like the quality stuff like M1 Garands, my .308 Panther and quality bolts with beautiful wood.
  14. Well… I’m not sure what you mean, but I was running both XP and 98SE on this system in a dual boot configuration. I installed the video driver in 98SE and didn’t get a message that it was unable to locate any NVIDIA graphic chips. Yes, I’ve been there. When you click on “Find help, get answers See answers to common questions about Virtual PC 2007.†And then click on “Search the Support Knowledge Base (KB)â€. You get “The Requested Web Page is Not Availableâ€.
  15. Or know of any good forums? I was formatting and setting up my dual boot laptop (XP corporate Pro/98SE) when I saw that MS is giving Virtual PC 2007 away free. I have a CAD\CAM system that only runs in 98SE so I thought I would try that instead of a dual boot system. I installed XP,VPC 2007, and installed 98SE in a virtual machine. I have hosed the install 3 times trying to get my video drivers to work in 98. I have a Toshiba laptop that uses “NVIDIA Gforce4 420 GO (Toshiba)†drivers in XP. I have a set of drivers that work fine in 98 when I was dual booting. But when I try to install them in a virtual machine I get an error message that says “Was unable to locate any NVIDIA graphic chips on this system. The installation will be terminated.†After that I can’t even uninstall them though the control panel. It doesn’t appear that MS has any support for VPC 2007. Maybe because it’s free?? Before I have to buy VMware, I thought I might see if any one could point me in the right direction. TIA.
  16. Is this it? http://tennessee.gov/twra/region2directions.html CHEATHAM WMA Randy Cromer (615/792-4510) From Ashland City, take Hwy 49 toward Charlotte. Cross the river and continue four miles to Hwy. 250. Turn left onto Hwy 250 and go four miles to the WMA entrance, on your left. The check station is three miles from the entrance and maps are outside the check station. The firing range is on the left before you get to the check station and is open noon until dark daily.
  17. I think EMF is just an importer, so it would depend on the specific firearm. I know when I was looking for a lever gun the name EMF came up. I don’t remember who made them but they looked like they were well built, and they had good reviews. But I have never seen or shot one.
  18. To late now…. But I’m just wondering why you are going there instead of Stones River; is it better?
  19. I’m in. I even have a camera. It’s a 10 year old Sony, but will be fine for the quality of stuff we would be doing.
  20. I saved the cost of mine on my first purchase from MidwayUSA. <O:p</O:p BTW… The CLEO is the Chief Law Enforcement Officer for the County, regardless of what city you live in. It is my understanding that the ATF doesn’t do anything regarding them unless they hear from them about your application. Probably just a failsafe in case a local nut job is trying to get a license. So unless you are one of the local nut jobs I wouldn’t worry about it.

    Such A Deal!

Why, do you take in a lot of stolen guns?

    Such A Deal!

What’s the law in Tennessee? In Illinois possession of a stolen firearm is a felony and it doesn’t matter how you came into possession of it.
  23. Well, I have a Smith & Wesson model 36 revolver for situations that require a highly concealable firearm. I carried mine for years in an ankle holster. Mine is a .38, but you can get a J-frame in .357mag. That would make the ammo issue pretty much moot. .45ACP is also my first choice for a handgun round but sometimes you have to give up a little for concealment. The .38 is far superior to a .380 and I would even take it over a 9mm. .357mag isn’t too bad in a steel or stainless model, but it is a handful. I would stay away from the alloy frames, or at least make the comparison between the two.
  24. Remington has a historian. The number is 800-243-9700. I called them once about a shotgun and they were very helpful. They gave me the info on the gun, when it originally shipped and what options it had when it shipped.
  25. Posted as you on the forum. Watched your TV and drank all your beer. Nope. My question was rhetorical anyway.
