  1. I saw that also. But the intent of that law appears to be to protect against the civil lawsuits against gun manufacturers, and to prevent city gun bans. I doubt that law would trump a local fire code that says you can’t store 50,000 pounds of gun powder in a residence….. But I certainly could be wrong. Also, I would guess that most laws on the storage of explosives and gun powder were in place prior to 1986; that law has no impact on them.
  2. I have no idea, but I would guess that it depends on your local City or County code.
  3. It will never fly. <O:p</O:p The state of Tennessee has designated the entire state a “gun free zone†for all law abiding citizens. Only those that wish to purchase the privilege from the state can be armed. <O:p</O:p The state can’t be held liable when you are a victim of a crime; so they won’t be able to burden business owners with that liability either. <O:p</O:p If state legislators were truly serious about your safety they would throw out the HCP and recognize the 2nd amendment as an individual right.
  4. It’s not a legal interpretation; but in this case no charges were filed.
  5. The intent of the law is to keep you from being served alcohol while armed with a firearm. Do they serve you on the porch? Do you have to walk through the building to get to the porch? As with most other carry issues involving the cops; it will depend greatly on why they are questioning and disarming you. Cops don’t file charges, they just arrest you. It would be up to the DA to decide if he wanted to file charges.
  6. Gun control will not be a deciding factor in this election. Voting for someone that claims to be pro-gun but has no chance of being elected is giving a vote to the front runners. As scary as it may seem right now that is Hillary and Obama. Both have said straight up that they want to take away your guns. <O:p</O:p Like most Americans my priorities are jobs, the economy, crime, and my right to defend myself and my family against people that want to kill us. (Not to be confused with the 2nd Amendment) <O:p</O:p I hope things change in the coming months because right now I don’t have a viable candidate to vote for. Wouldn’t it be great if we ever had an election where people were voting for someone instead of against someone? But sadly those that would be great at the job; don’t want it.
  7. These aren’t “4-Boresâ€. 4-Bores had a bore diameter of nearly an inch the “4†refers to 4 balls per pound of lead. A Guy in Michigan is making “4 Bore†rounds from cut down 20mm cases with a 2000 grain bullet Here is a pic of some “4 Bores†he is making. That is a 30-06 on the right for comparison.
  8. From Atlantic Firearms... They are offering a forum discount on another forum. I’m not sure if I’m allowed to link to it, but…. But it’s a .22… I have to think by the time these hit the big internet stores the price will be substantially less than $500.
  9. Sure they do. Sometimes things are banned for legitimate reasons. Put yourself in the business owner’s position; it is not only their right but their responsibility to maintain a safe working environment for their employees. <O:p</O:p There are places that ban Cameras, laptops, and recording devices on their property. Other places ban tobacco; other places ban matches, lighters, or any other source of a direct flame. You can drive your car onto most military installations but you can’t have a firearm in your car without written permission on most I have been on. <O:p</O:p You could get legislation that would remove the liability of an employer, but I doubt you could get legislation that would remove the employer’s right to ban firearms. Is the state going to have some agency that decides who has a legitimate reason and who doesn’t? I don’t think so. <O:p</O:p Your carry permit is a privilege the state has given you. This issue has you clashing with the rights of a business owner.
  10. I served in active duty Navy, Air National Guard, and served as a Police Officer. I don’t think the decision would be tough at all for most of us. It’s a scenario that can’t happen anywhere but in the movies. But if it did get as far as an attempted tyrannical government takeover; Martial Law would be imposed…. Game over…. Government restored. <O:p</O:p As a soon-to-be Army Officer are you going to take up arms against American citizens? No… and neither is anyone else.
  11. No… we need to add an amendment. <O:p</O:p That would be a valid argument if the intent of the 2nd amendment was to give you the right to protect yourself. But it isn’t. On COPS the other night they showed London Police Officers operating without firearms. Cops here don’t have to worry about that without a change in the Constitution. Why? Because of the 2nd amendment. <O:p</O:p I will say again that I do not make these arguments because I belive we shouldn’t have the right to protect ourselves; I absolutely believe we have the right to carry guns. I just don’t want that right decided on a ruling that has nothing to do with our personal protection. If this decision that they are talking about does in fact happen this year, and the Supreme Court rules that the 2nd is a collective right of the state and not an individual right; what will we be left to argue/discuss? Caliber wars and Glocks?
  12. Those who study Constitutional law study the men that wrote that document, and what their intent was. The same thing Judges do in criminal cases; they look at not only the written law, but the intent of the law. This problem was foreseen and they gave absolute power over interpreting the Constitution to the Supreme Court of the United States. It was insured that they answer to no one (not even “the peopleâ€) and their rulings are final. (Without a change in the Constitution.) If it was as simple as reading the written words; the SCOUTS would be English Professors instead of lawyers. <O:p</O:p I’m not an English major and I really didn’t even do very well in it; but when I read the 2nd amendment it is crystal clear to me that the intent was to make sure we have an armed militia that can maintain the security of a free state. <O:p</O:p <O:p</O:pIf the intent was to insure the rights of the individual to keep and bears arms it would say. <O:p</O:p <O:p</O:pDon’t you agree? You have to remove the emotion and what you want it to say and look at what it says and what its intent was. Because that is what the SCOTUS will do.
  13. Go shoot it and see if you like it. Double stacks aren’t very popular with most 1911 shooters. Fired or unfired if you bought it new you probably won’t get what you paid for it so go have fun with it. Sitting there holding it in your hands the realization that it isn’t a carry gun has sunk in. So if you want a range gun; try it out.
  14. I guess we will have to agree to disagree. Here is what I would offer… I am a former Police Officer; I was an Officer for a city Police Department in Illinois. I was certified by the state; not by the city. I had full Police powers anywhere within the bounders of the state. The state had minimum requirements for that certification that municipalities had to meet. The city was simply my employer. I think you will find that is the case with most states. <O:p</O:p So… you can put the pen in whomever hands you like but even the President himself can’t disarm a Police Department or a state National Guard unit. That is what the 2nd amendment protects and that is all that would keep Hillary or Obama from disarming Police Officers as they are in England. No… the argument is whether or not the 2nd is an individual right. Most of the pro-gun people using the 2nd amendment as an argument for bearing arms have no intention of being in a militia or defending their state. They want to be able to defend their own lives and the lives of their family members. The SCOTUS has ruled that PD’s can’t be held liable for not defending a citizen. Therefore a citizen has not only the right but the responsibility to defend themselves. It’s tough to defend yourself against an armed car jacker or an armed robber when you can’t carry a gun. <O:p</O:p It’s sad that those of us that believe we have a right to defend ourselves, but are fully aware that right does not come from the 2nd amendment, have to stand by and watch as our safety is hung on a decision that we know full well will not go our way.
  15. Not for Tennessee (for now), but it could have a huge impact for Illinois and California. I know you have said before that you don’t care about those states, but it could impact Tennessee in the future.
  16. Have you had any? I had one last night. I know that this may have been a serious reply, but it made me laugh out loud. So..... does anyone need a horse?
  17. And it would be great if you are right. However I am a realist. You have a right to protect your life or you don’t, you have a right to bear arms or you don’t. That doesn’t mean that you have a right to carry if you buy a permit from the state and it doesn’t mean that “But the Legislature shall have power, by law,</NOBR> to regulate the wearing of arms with a view to prevent crime</NOBR>.†Supposedly the SCOTUS will decided this year if we have an individual right to protect or lives and it just pizzes me off that they are going to use a dog like the 2nd amendment to do that. The 2nd amendment clearly does not give an individual a right to carry and I predict that will be the ruling on the court.
  18. No, but they could ban you from bringing eggs into the facility in your lunch. “This is a Tobacco free facilityâ€. Those signs don’t mean that you can’t smoke; they mean that you can’t bring tobacco onto the property. Employers can ban whatever they like. Sorry, but I’m just against government intervention on this kind of stuff. Tennessee just saw fit to trample all over the rights of bar owners with the smoking ban; some will lose their business. If you want to carry a gun to work find a job that will allow you to do that. I will suggest the same thing here as I did about businesses that post “no firearms†signs. With most companies this isn’t about gun control; it is about liability. You shoot your co-worker while you are showing him your new carry gun in the parking lot and the company finds themselves having to hire attorneys and defend themselves in a civil action. Why? Because they are the “Deep Pockets†and the attorneys need someone with the ability to pay. However…. If you can get legislation that removes liability by the company simply because you did this on their property and you may get something done. Even companies that may not like guns would probably support this because you would have the system recognizing that they are not liable for your ignorance simply because you were on their property when you decided to do something stupid; they could apply this to other areas.
  19. No it couldn’t. “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State†includes Military, National Guard, and Police Departments. The only thing the 2nd amendment does right now is to keep the feds from disarming those groups. The Federal government does not control state, county and city PD’s and they could not “simply not call them upâ€. They can stoke all the pens they like, but the 2nd is a protection for the state; it is undeniably a state right. <O:p</O:p The confusion and all the battling is over whether or not “the people†is a collective term or an individual term. The SCOTUS has never answered that question; they have left it up to the Federal Districts. Supposedly they will answer that question this year. I have my doubts that they will answer that question, and if they do I do not think we will like the answer.
  20. While I was at my folk’s home for Xmas I installed LogMeIn on their computer. A couple of days ago they had some problems and called. I logged into LogMeIn and (after explaining to the nice folks at LogMeIn why I wanted to stay with the free version ) took control of their computer. It was great. Thanks to all of you.
  21. Can I use the free version of VMWare Server on a stand alone desktop? I guess I’m not clear on the difference between VMWare server and VMWare Workstation. I used an old version of VMWare Workstation a long time ago. I think I quit because it couldn’t transfer files between the Host and Guest. Can the free app do that now?
  22. I think we are in agreement on Glocks also.
  23. I’m 100% for a citizen’s right to carry. But to imply that carry laws impact crime one way or the other would imply that criminals would give this some thought. They don’t. The death penalty has no impact on crime and I can’t believe that carry laws would either. Armed robbers and car jackers run the risk of encountering an armed person wherever they go and no matter what state they are in. Just like all criminals they don’t think it will happen to them and they don’t think they will get caught. <O:p</O:p Want to see crime rates fall in an area? Bring in new jobs.
  24. Okay, thanks... I'll do that.
  25. There aren’t any forms in that package you need to purchase a C&R firearm. It’s mostly info on state and Federal laws and a C&R list. <O:p</O:p For you guys that sent a copy of your C&R to Brownells; has anyone ordered and got a discount? I get a decent discount with MidwayUSA but the last time I checked with Brownells they also required a tax number for a dealer discount.
