Good things come to those who wait. It sounds to me like the Sheriff did the right thing in taking the time for a full investigation. As long as this was an internal disciplinary investigation she could not evoke the 5th. They could have her file written reports describing what happened. At the point that this becomes a custodial interview on criminal charges; she doesn’t have to answer anything.

There is no battle left to fight. You can make all the noise you want, but the 2nd has been decided. That’s true with any issue; dispute it when you see it. Then make them tell you how they feel about you being able to protect yourself against thugs and carjackers… and don’t mention the 2nd. They are portraying guns in bars as the average citizens see it; it is ridiculous at face value. Even if the proposed legislation passes the drunks are still going to be crying that they should be able to drink while they are carrying. Good idea. Lets a start a group that has gun rights as its agenda instead of simply an exercise to see how much money the guys that start it can make. There are misconceptions on both sides. Like those here that wave the Tennessee flag and talk about how Tennessee recognizes their rights. They are 3% of the population and they have no rights. Rights are for all the people; 97% of the people in the state of Tennessee would be arrested if they carried a gun in public. Absolutely, and I will take this opportunity to share them one more time. It depends on what your goal is. If your goal is to educate people about the second amendment; have at it. You have a mountain of roadblocks in your way. First, the state of Tennessee does not recognize the 2nd amendment as an individual right. The state Constitution allows you to keep arms, but give the legislature the authority to control when and where they are carried. It is a crime for the average Tennessean to bear arms in public. Second here is what your Federal District Court (the 6th) thinks about the 2nd.... Their decision is final unless the SCOUTS rules otherwise. Now…. I do believe that I have a right to bear arms. Our founding fathers believed that and they acknowledged it in the Declaration of Independence. I do not want to hang my right to defend myself on the 2nd amendment that has no bearing on me. This battle has been fought my whole life and I do not expect it to be decided any time soon. And if it is; it will not be a decision that allows the people to carry handguns. I talk to my friends family and co-workers about gun rights all the time; but I can make a valid argument without ever making a reference to the 2nd amendment. Because as soon as you do; you will have your azz handed to you.

SB3395 and HB3245 Ammunition Accountability Act

You can’t buy ammo in Illinois with a background check. I can’t get my FOID card renewed while living in Tennessee. <O:p</O:p

She has already been booked into jail and released on bail.

Does the TBI or some government agency not keep records of the sale? If the state decides to outlaw type X firearms and I have purchased one from a dealer; will there not be a record somewhere that I bought that firearm?

Miami Police chief calls for ban on assault weapons
DaveTN replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I sometimes feel guilty that I am better armed than our military or police. <O:p</O:p I know that it is not the soldiers or Officer's Fault. Some Police Departments learned a lesson from the Hollywood BOA shootout and made changes. <O:p</O:p Put one of these in each patrol car. You may still be outmanned; but you won’t be outgunned. -
Wow… glad to see all the love for our brothers and sisters in Illinois. <O:p</O:p As typical liberals do they worded the poll to get the results they want. However… if you look at the results 21% want concealed carry in Illinois, and only .1% think the laws should stay the way they are. I submit that the 21% number is as high or higher than you would see in Tennessee if HCP were put to a vote. <O:p</O:p The people of the state of Illinois need our help; and I would ask that you give it. This isn’t about rights; it is about privileges you can buy from the state. Ignorance of the issues always gets in the way. When you turn this into a “rights†issue or a 2nd amendment debate; the battle is over. Tennessee does not recognize the 2nd amendment anymore than Illinois. 97% of the residents of Tennessee can’t legally carry a firearm in public and none of them can carry in a school. The results of a school shooting here would be no different here than they were in Illinois or Virginia. <O:p</O:p Illinois (and other states) want the same privileges that you have here. Privileges that come from your state legislators; not any right. The 2nd amendment is a battle that needs to be fought; but it is totally separate from a handgun carry permit. Please don’t tie the two together, and please don’t think that your legislature is recognizing a right. It isn’t a right in this state and could change at anytime. <O:p</O:p

Tasers, Stun Guns-- Appropriate Response?
DaveTN replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
As Police officer if someone would have threatened me with a taser; I would have warned them to drop it (if I had time). If they didn’t comply I would have shot them. It’s a situation that may well end up going to a jury, but if a persons knows or sees that you are armed and they try to deploy a taser; it is reasonable to assume that they would then have control of your weapon. -
I’m sure each individual department has their own policy. Our department offered cops any type of therapy or counseling they wanted. They didn’t require any type of incident; you didn’t even have to give a reason. They had Doctors they recommended or you could pick whoever you wanted. However…. Most people (cop or not) are not going to jump at the chance to go to a shrink.

I would expect that this Deputy will be fired and criminal charges will be filed.

In full size, you can you can get a Smith & Wesson or a Kimber new for just under a grand. If you run an ad you could probably find either locally used below $700. I sold my mint Kimber Custom TLE II for $625. Either are top of the line.

An FFL can’t ship to you; you have to go there. Any Tennessee resident can sell a firearm to any other Tennessee resident on a private party sale.
-
Failure to notify the carrier you are shipping a firearm whether it works or not is a crime. I’m not going to lie and I’m not going to commit a crime because someone is too lazy to know their own company rules or the law.
-
If you own a gun you need to know the laws on who you can shoot. Protecting your property doesn’t help your family much if you are in prison and they lose everything they have.
-
Depends on where you are. UPS will only accept handguns at a main hub with a customer service counter. UPS in Murfreesboro would not even accept a long gun shipment from me being shipped to Chattanooga. They said I had to have an FFL. They were going to refuse taking my shipment of a handgun that was being sent to Smith & Wesson until I pointed out that Smith & Wesson sent me the overnight label. Their “security officer†told me that they will not accept firearms shipments from a non FFL unless it is being shipped back to the manufacturer for repair. Of course that is incorrect; but when I called corporate they would no nothing because a firearm was involved. You are required by Federal law to notify any shipper that you are shipping a firearm. Maybe you will have better luck than I had.

SB3395 and HB3245 Ammunition Accountability Act
DaveTN replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Being stupid should hurt, and legislators should be impeached for drafting bills that they know have no chance of passing. <O:p</O:p If this did pass a box of handgun ammo stolen from your home would bring big bucks. -
Presidential Candidates' Opinions on Firearms
DaveTN replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I keep thinking maybe this is a nightmare and I will wake up. <O:p</O:p I can’t see how anyone can vote for Hillary; she is a joke. However…. When I heard she was running for the NY Senate I laughed out loud. I said “No one will vote for her.†I was wrong. <O:p</O:p I don’t think McCain has the horsepower to over come this fiasco. The issues have been lost in the agendas. <O:p</O:p But if he does get the nod, I think he will pick Giuliani for a running mate. Giuliani may be able to pull votes from some of the Dems that still are concerned about the issues. -
It is impossible for a company to recognize something as a right when the state where they are doing business does not. Our state is very clear that we do not have a right to carry. An employer is responsible for providing a safe working environment. They don’t want to be held responsible for checking to see who has purchased the privilege from the state and who is committing a criminal act. Guns in the workplace are a liability nightmare for business. Until that liability is removed most companies of any size are not going to allow it. 97% of the people in Tennessee can’t legally carry. Risking a big lawsuit for the 3% that can wouldn’t be fair to the other families. Congratulations on the new job. I hear TVA is a very good place to work.

Seeing that their views may cost them money Berkeley has backed down already.

Presidential Candidates' Opinions on Firearms
DaveTN replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The whole election is scary. The Dems are concerned whether or not they can get a woman or a black elected. Hillary is a joke and Obama doesn’t have the experience to even be in this race. If they had a black woman we wouldn’t even need to have an election; she would be unbeatable. <O:p</O:p Meanwhile the republicans are left with no one that can overcome the circus going on in the Democratic Party. <O:p</O:p -
Honestly, I don’t think I have ever seen any Kimber sell for less than $600 unless it was broke. So yes, that is a good deal. A 4†stainless, tax, title, and tags is going to approach $1K new.

Replys from Senator Jackson & Rep. Tidwell of TN.
DaveTN replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
It will never fly. The state of Tennessee has designated the entire state a “gun free zone†for all law abiding citizens. Only those that wish to purchase the privilege from the state can be armed. The state can’t be held liable when you are a victim of a crime; so they won’t be able to burden business owners with that liability either. If state legislators were truly serious about your safety they would throw out the HCP and recognize the 2nd amendment as an individual right. Since the state is fighting very hard to attract business to Tennessee I doubt a bill like this would have a chance. But if it did; do you think the signs would be removed from the government buildings? -
