  1. If you are cleared in criminal court you are okay. But most justified shootings never see a criminal court. The States Attorney may simply decide not to file charges. So as I read the statue you can still be sued. If the civil court then rules that the shooting was justified they can award you a judgment for “attorney's fees, court costs, compensation for loss of income, and all expenses incurred by a person in defenseâ€. As many know a “Judgment†doesn’t mean that you will ever get paid. The statute is a good idea; it just isn’t the “You can’t be sued†that some think it is.
  2. It depends on where you go. I got bitched at in a range in California once for shooting to fast. I was shooting a revolver at the time.
  3. Then no, if you are claiming no legal privilege other than any other HCP holder you can’t carry unless you are picking up or dropping off. The intent of the law is to outlaw carry on school property. An exception is made so that HCP holders don’t have to disarm while taking their kids to and from school. What you are doing does not fall into that category. I would guess that if for some reason the Police were made aware of your armed presence they would ask to see something that allows you to carry on school property. It doesn’t sound like you have anything like that. But again, I would say that since you are risking be charged with a felony and losing any and all licensees you may have; I would want to hear any answer from the person that will be making the decision of whether or not I would be charged.
  4. Then go to the States Attorneys Office in the counties where you will be doing this and ask them. Not trying to be a smart azz, but you are talking about not only losing your carry permit but any other license’s you have.
  5. Not in Nashville, but Todd Watts in Christiana reblued an S&W model 19 for me and did a great job. He does Parkerizing also, but I've never seen any.
  6. Gotta get me a rimfire S&W. Wish I had known you were looking for those; I just traded off a mint set of Targets (not diamonds though) for a set of Ahrends.

    shipping in state?

Yes. Besides what has already been said here, you are required by Federal law to declare to the shipper that it is a firearm.
  8. Well… since the question was posed to inflame; let me throw a little gas on the fire. <O:p</O:p LEO’s follow lawful orders or they are fired. Military men follow lawful orders or they can go to prison. Neither is a place for anyone that can’t tell a lawful order from an unlawful order; and it’s not a place for someone that can’t make a decision or wants to have a vote after they determine the order is lawful. <O:p</O:p If you do not have a job where you would ever be in the position to disarm someone I guess the proper response would be to start flag waving, rambling something about the Constitution, or start claiming that you would never commit such a dastardly deed. <O:p</O:p Going door to door collecting guns will never happen. Disarming citizens would be illegal; it would be a crime. It would be a crime because it is specifically addressed by the Tennessee State Constitution, by state law, and by the fourth amendment of the United States Constitution. But sorry… there is no 2nd amendment issue here. I have been both Military and a LEO. If given a lawful order I would obey it without question.
  9. Absolutely. I don’t know what it is like to lose a child to violence and I pray to God I never find out. These people are devastated and grasping at straws; they want to do “somethingâ€. <O:p</O:p But making sure that a shooter has a target rich environment that is unarmed just doesn’t make sense to me at the very basic levels of common sense. <O:p</O:p We have been “fighting the war on drugs†for how many years and how many billions of dollars now? Drugs are illegal but I’m sure we would all know the general vicinity in our towns to go buy a bunch of crack.
  10. It comes from change. Problems arise that our forefathers never even thought about. The courts interpret how the Constitution will be applied to those things. On some of the stuff they do a good job and on others; not so good. <O:p</O:p The second amendment is controversial because many would (and do) argue that is has nothing to do with you as an individual; if you read what it clearly states. Some day the SCOTUS will have to answer that very question. When they do it will be the final decision and the question will be answered once and for all. We aren’t going to like it. Our forefathers put the Supreme Court of the Unites States in place and gave them the powers they have for a reason. They fear no one, they answer to no one…. Including the people. <O:p</O:p As gun owners I think we will do about as well as “the people†did on this ruling. If they are willing to let local government steal your land for the “good†of the community, do you think they will limit them in deciding if they want people carrying guns?
  11. Yes, out of state hunters are okay with the proper permits. I think there is also a provision for out of state shooters in competitions.
  12. I can legally take them there; it’s using them that is a problem. I don’t go anywhere near Chicago with guns.
  13. Well until a couple of months ago I was taking my rifles and handguns up there to shoot with some family members. We had access to land out in the county and had the permission of the owner to shoot there. But I have quit doing that. I see no provision in Illinois law for me to be in possession of firearms or ammunition without a FOID card. I have posed the question on some Illinois forums and ask some people; but I don’t have a clear cut answer from a creditable source. Even if not convicted the chance of being arrested and having my weapons seized is too great.
  14. His comments that he supports the right to bear arms were directed at the same people that did not understand what he said when he said he wants to “Ban the sale or transfer of all forms of semi-automatic weaponsâ€.
  15. Same guys must still be running the show.
  16. Congratulations man…. Now get ready to take the heat; or hate as the case may be.
  17. Yes, but a signed bill of sale would do the same thing.
  18. If there is going to be government scrutiny then the government should make firearms transfers available free at some government facility. (I still have a hard time believing that some local enterprising firearms dealer hasn’t hit a home run on this one yet )
  19. Yes but you have that whole posse comitatus thing to deal with…. I don’t.
  20. That is not the view of most of the LEO's I know... and I know many.
  21. As most here can tell you; I agree. But Police Officers are held to a higher standard. They are held to a standard higher than the President of the United States. Even when they are right there will be some that will disagree with what they did. But when they are clearly wrong and we see video evidence of it; they should be made examples of.
  22. You can’t. And I don’t think Tennessee law expects you to be able to; if they did they would make the database available on the internet. You can’t sell a firearm to someone that you know is banned from purchasing.
  23. Are car doors involved? Are the car doors a long way away? The .357Sig will shoot through the car door. The 10mm will slam the door on whoever is on the other side. Either is a good choice if you are shooting car doors. If bad guys with guns that are shooting back at you are part of the scenario…. Use a 45ACP. carry on....
  24. The seller can request that the sale go through an FFL; the buyer can agree or refuse. But I’m not sure what you are getting at. Are you concerned that you will be a suspect in the crime the gun was used in, or are you concerned that you will be accused of selling a gun to a dirt bag?
  25. Good things come to those who wait. It sounds to me like the Sheriff did the right thing in taking the time for a full investigation. As long as this was an internal disciplinary investigation she could not evoke the 5th. They could have her file written reports describing what happened. At the point that this becomes a custodial interview on criminal charges; she doesn’t have to answer anything.
