  1. Sure people can read. They can read the comments posted right here on this forum by members that make the same argument drunk drivers make…. They are unaffected by alcohol and will be just fine.†They are the concern about allowing carry in bars and some will be jailed over it. My answer to that is to make the law clear and make the sentence serious. First offense of carrying and drinking in a bar is permanent revocation of any carry privilege; HCP holder or LEO. This is not a problem for law abiding gun owners…. I don’t care if they make it a felony.
  2. That is the bill that I am waiting on and would do the most for all of us. Place the liability exactly where it belongs….. on the guy that makes the decision to pull the trigger. But I agree that it probably would not pass because it removes the “deep pockets” from the payday equation. Lawyers won’t allow that.
  3. I have owned several J frames. My model 36 is the gun I have kept the longest; 30 years. At some point I will pick up another model 60. I prefer steel or stainless for the weight and controllability. They are an excellent choice for maximum concealment and exceptional quality while maintaining a decent caliber. I have seen other revolvers referred to as “J-framesâ€.....Smith & Wesson are the only J-Frames.
  4. There isn’t anything wrong with them; they have owned the market for over 20 years. That alone seems to bother some “technology for technologies sake†people. The .45ACP has been the undisputed king of the handgun calibers for 100 years, followed closely by the 70 year old .357 magnum. Sometimes it’s hard to improve upon perfection.
  5. You are under the influence with the first drink. .08% for DUI is a legal “presumption†that you are impaired. In many states you can be convicted for DUI at levels below the “legal limitâ€. It just is no longer a presumption and other evidence must be submitted for a conviction. <O:p</O:p This bill gained support because it was understood that HCP holders would be allowed to go to the restaurants of their choice; but would not be allowed to consume alcohol. <O:p</O:p I don’t support anyone drinking and carrying in public, I don’t care if they are a LEO, HCP holder, Military or anyone else.
  6. Mt Juliet PD sponsors a class that is $25 if you live in the city; can’t beat that.
  7. Why was it worth watching? What did we learn besides some tin foil hat has pretty good video editing skills? Most pro gun people have absolutely no concerns about going to war with an out of control government…. It can’t happen and is not a realistic threat. Having a thug jerk you out of your car at a traffic light and put a bullet in your head is a very real threat. I don’t want the public to think that because I want to protect myself and my family from very real threats I am part of the group of tin foils hats that make those kinds of videos and make outlandish predictions about going to war with our own government.
  8. A lot of thousand yard bench rest shooters and Military snipers will be sorry to hear that.
  9. I think you mean a LR-308B. It has an 18†heavy barrel and I doubt you are going to impress anyone at 1000 yards with it. You would probably need the LR-308 with a 24†heavy barrel. Claims have been made that it can compare with a bolt for accuracy. I don’t know if that is true or not. I bought my LR-308AP4 for Hero gear and handled the LR-308 while I was there. My application was a Home Defense/plinker/target on an AR platform in .308. The LR-308 was to unwieldy for that; it is more of a long barreled target rifle; pretty useless as an assault type weapon. You will need to spend about $700 to a grand for a scope to do what you want. That means you will have 2K or more in the Panther. I also just bought a Remington 700 VLS in .308 for long distance shooting. I mounted a Leupold 6.5-20X40 scope on it. I have not tried it out yet but I expect it to outshoot any AR type rifles. We all have been on the quest that you are on. An AR that can shoot long range. But I think you are going to find that it does not exist. You can get an AR that can shoot long range; but IMHO I doubt you will impress anyone. The AR was not designed for that. Bolts own that application. Everything in life is application driven. In reading your requirements your application is for a bolt action rifle. So I guess you will have to do the same thing I did…… buy both.
  10. Bad service seems to be the norm anymore. But I think Bass Pro went above and beyond what most places would have done. They took the time to look at the video, do something about it and call you. I’m sure if the store manager went through all that the employees at fault were reprimanded. Let’s face it, these are not high paying jobs and the people are cycled through. Sometimes it takes time to weed out the bad ones. I would have been more than satisfied with how they handled the situation. I was kinda surprised at my last visit to Bass Pro. I was looking for some odds and ends that I could not locate and ask one of the guys behind the counter where some items were. Instead of pointing at the isle like most clerks would do he came from behind the counter and went to the isles and pointed the items out. One of the things I was looking for was Butler Creek scope caps. As I was looking at the package trying to decided what size I needed the same guy came back and said “You know, the best way I have found to size those is to just try them on the scope; what scope do you have?†I told him and he went behind the counter and brought out a Leupold scope. He opened the packages, tried them on and said ‘There you go.†I know that kind of service is rare (especially on low cost items like I was looking at), but it is still out there. Like in any job there are people that want to do a good job and people that think they deserve a pay check for showing up. On a different note… Good luck with your new 597. Without getting into high dollar target rifles that is the most accurate “out of the box†.22 I have ever owned. If yours is like most it will take 500 to 1000 rounds to get that action to operate properly. Mine didn’t like much other than CCI Mini Mag Hollow points. There is a lot of good information on that rifle at Rimfire Central.
  11. I don’t hunt, but for my flat top I have the standard sights, a holographic sight and a scope. The scope is a VX-I 3-9X40 Leupold. I had a hell of a time finding a one piece scope mount. But I found one at the gun show at the fairgrounds from J&T Distributing out of Kentucky. It was $50 and appears to be very well made. I haven’t got a chance to try out my long distance set-up yet. It’s a Remington 700 VLS in .308 topped with a Leupold VX-III 6.5-20X40 Long Range with a 30mm tube.
  12. I don’t carry, but I can put my hands on a loaded weapon anywhere in my house. (I don't have kids at home anymore) Are you prepared for a home invasion? If someone kicked in your door could you arm yourself in time? Being prepared for that isn’t stupid. Most people have good safes for fire protection; they cost a lot. If you just need to secure weapons it can be done pretty cheap.
  13. Well good for your wife. If more people were like her the evening news wouldn’t be filled with how bad our economy is.
  14. Wow... To make a 12 gauge that can be held level while shooting full auto is truly an amazing feat of engineering. This would be bad azz for clearing buildings. I doubt we will even get a semi version of this. As a matter of fact here is what Hillary and Obama did when they saw that weapon in action….
  15. Yes, the .308. It outperforms the .223 in all aspects regardless of what you are shooting or how far away it is. DPMS makes it in standard barrels or heavy barrels.
  16. Maybe they are following Smith & Wesson’s lead and letting a user decided what is best for them; and have it their way. There are reasons for manual safeties and there are reasons for magazine disconnects. If you can have it either way there is no need to argue.
  17. I was going to call you Thursday to see about checking out the other range on Saturday; but when I looked at the whether and saw 16 degrees and snow I changed my mind. I have had my new Remington 700 VLS for two weeks now and have not got to shoot it.
  18. Not getting any at all. I didn’t even get one on this. Email notification is set and all appears right; but I’m not getting them. Last one I got was on 2-29.
  19. I wondered if that was what happened.
  20. I’m not getting any email notices on subscribed threads anymore.
  21. Sure, but who wants to open carry?
  22. Absolutely you can. Many people have explained that many times but people still want to do it. I guess its good that you now know not to do that, especially with a carry weapon. I always try to make a “note to self†when I see the guys that post that they dry fire their weapons thousands of times while watching TV…… “Note to self; don’t buy a gun from this guy you do not plan on overhauling.â€
  23. Nothing. No matter how they rule nothing will be outlawed. The Supreme Court has refused to answer the “individual right†question for many years and has left it up to the state courts and the Federal District courts. The right to “keep arms†is not the problem; the right to “bear†arms is. <O:p</O:p Personally I don’t think they are going to answer that question in this case. But if they do we are not going to like the outcome. They will either rule that it is a collective right of the state or that it is an individual right but that the state may control the carry and use. (Just like the Tennessee state Constitution reads.) <O:p</O:p If they were to rule it is an individual right to keep and bear arms and that everyone can strap on a firearm and go about their business (never happen); it would become a states rights issues and some states would continue to arrest people for doing so. That is why we won’t get a ruling in our favor. You can’t take away a states right to enact legislation that they perceive as protecting its citizens. (Whether we agree that is the case or not). <O:p</O:p On this issue States Rights will without a doubt trump individuals rights. It is my understanding that you still need a permit to carry concealed in a city or town in Montana. But I'm not sure of that.
  24. I’m no lawyer, but I would guess that convicting someone (not arresting them, but convicting them) of being a felon in possession of a firearm would require physical control. <O:p</O:p A family has a kid that has been convicted of a felony and they have to get rid of all firearms and leave the family unprotected? I think not. <O:p</O:p In reality this will depend on why the cops are there or were called. If a felon is arrested in a home where firearms are present they may well be charged with the additional charge. <O:p</O:p The bad thing about all these laws is that while we have access to the written statute; we (or at least I don’t) don’t have access to the case law. Many of theses questions are answered by case law. <O:p</O:p Didn’t Tennessee just pass some new legislation about felons and firearms? <O:p</O:p
  25. Mine is in the house also and if your Doberman’s are anything like mine; there won’t be anyone at the door when you get there. Provided they even got to the door before he heard them.
