  1. I went twice, once for a Garand and once for an M1 Carbine. That was a few years ago. They had a lot to select from. I picked out 3 or 4 of each, gave them to an Armorer and had him go through them and pick the best one. So it was worth it....to me. The last Garand I got; they didn’t have a big selection, so I just ordered it. Both the North and South Stores have their own areas on the CMP forum, and members post updates about what’s available.
  2. It’s fine that you want to require some kind of a stamp of approval from the government to carry a gun; you are in good company and I respect your opinion., even if I disagree with it. Are you implying that a TN HCP is it? There is no middle of the road; its an all or nothing debate. It’s required, or its not. That's how I feel about putting private citizens or teachers as guards in schools. I’m good with that, provided they complete exactly the same training and maintain exactly the same qualifications as a Police Officer in the jurisdiction they are in; anything less is unacceptable. But for a private citizen, you have a 2nd amendment right to carry or you don’t. In Tennessee we don’t. Now don’t take that wrong…I’m good with what we have until we get Constitutional carry. So if we get Constitutional carry it comes with the requirement of passing a test? That doesn’t sound like a right to me. If I was the Police Chief of Murfreesboro or the Sherriff of Rutherford County I would offer HCP classes for free. I would also offer free seminars with the DA’s office on the use of deadly force.
  3. This came today in an email from CMP. This is not something you would want for a collectable, but would make a good shooter for $650. That’s also a real Walnut stock; so you could make that thing look sweet.
  4. I have always wondered….. if the good guys have the ability to open an electronic safe; don’t the bad guys also have that ability? I assume its some electronic device or manipulation of the keypad?
  5. I for the life of me don’t understand all the negative drama with this permit. It is not a replacement for the one the rest of us have and it was originally aimed at low income that couldn’t afford the fees. (although that didn’t last long) Good for them. That’s the way it should be. The people getting this permit know that, if they don’t because they can’t read, or were too lazy to ask. So what? And they didn't take the easy way; there weren’t two permits for them to choose from. And it was handgun carry; not “concealed carry”. (Sorry, but now the difference matters) The choice was let military personnel get an HCP or worry about those states that won’t allow that. The choice was made to allow military personnel to get an HCP and not worry about what other states would do. That was a good choice; I support it. We have a major military base on our states border. I doubt we have 9 people that need to carry in Minnesota. That's good advice.
  6. I do. It’s too bad that a thief got killed while trying to steal a cell phone from an innocent victim. That’s their fault for not understanding that you can’t shoot fleeing criminals. Most people know that. If you shoot someone and there is some question about the legality of it; you will be tried in either criminal or civil court, or both. You can find these kinds of stories all over the net. We hear all the time about how most HCP holders are so safe and living at the foot of the cross. That’s laughable. Should we pick out the cases where HCP holders committed murder and judge all HCP holders on those cases? Of course not, that ridiculous. We live around animals that will kill us and eat us. We live around thugs that will kill us for no other reason than to take our car. Disarming us is a crime. Don’t take this as me saying people don’t need to be trained; I am trained and I expect others to be. But that’s your responsibility.
  7. Many times, that’s exactly what is done. I don’t know if they still do, but it used to be that our government had to buy American made products if they met the requirement, as obviously it should be. People get what they want by having specific details that only the product they want will meet. My experience is in the machine tool industry; I doubt the arms industry is any different. What we see the military buying now a days has very little to do with obtaining a quality, usable product our troops want. It’s the same thing with Police Departments when the purchase is left up to the department instead of what the Officers want.
  8. Every 6 months. It was 1970
  9. You can buy a Service Grade Garand from CMP for $750 right now. Many don’t want to jump through the hoops, so they pay $1000 to $1300 in the private market, with some routinely being priced at $2500. You can also, right now, get a “Special” grade from $650 to $1050 that is refurbished with modern parts, (It doesn’t seem to me many want that) The above comments that you pretty much have a complete receiver is what I was thinking. You can buy a complete new production stock from CMP for $157. 45. A new barrel is $200. The best money you can spend on a Garand right now, if you want the “real deal” that can be a shooter is, the Field Grade for $650 or the Service Grade for $750 from CMP. Either of those easily bring over a grand when sold in the private market.
  10. I think you are right for thinking people should know the law. All the laws that will impact their family and their freedom, not just the gun laws and the use of force laws; my experience is that too many don’t. I also think that a person should have professional handgun training. But if I agree that the government should require it; I no longer believe in the 2nd amendment. Therefore, I believe it is the responsibility of the individual to get that training, and not the responsibility of the state to see that they do.
  11. I sold my drums and bought my own. My first car cost $50 and insurance was $118.
  12. They already do that. What the permit holders of TN need to do if they want to know what states will honor the Permit they have is contact, or look up the information, on the states you want to know abouts web sites. Unless you are standing in Tennessee; no one cares what the Tennessee web site told you. Not trying to be an azz, but if you are going to carry a gun in another state; you better know the laws of that state. I travel to another state to shoot a lot. If I had a dollar for every time I have seen someone post information on this forum, that was wrong, about the laws of that state; I could buy a high end gun.
  13. I knew it!! I just knew it!! Okay Google now...Take me off all Federal Lists. You too Alexa and Cortana. (That should do it)
  14. Is there something in the TCA that says its only good in this state?
  15. That's the average gun owner. But I'm not that person, and me not wanting to join a group on FaceBook has nothing to do with that. The content should be available without me having to join a “special group” or have a secret handshake to be able to see it. My trust in FaceBook is Zero. Make the site available without FaceBook being able to put us on a terrorist watchlist. Some people have jobs that could take action against them for something like that.
  16. Yes, what are you going to do, shoot Carpenter Bees? Just kidding…just kidding….just kidding.
  17. Just because it’s good for someone that wants to carry; its not a good law. It’s a thug government. Florida, like Tennessee, does not recognize the 2nd amendment as an individual right. Therefore; they don’t (or shouldn’t) have squat to say about how a private individual, or a private business allows gun possession on their property. Of course the whole thing with firing people is that once an owner or manager wants to fire someone; they can. If a law is in place, they just don’t give that as a reason. My first question on these type cases is “How did a gun secured in a vehicle become an issue?”
  18. Its as good as an HCP in Illinois. Can’t carry, but can have a gun in the car.
  19. Are there some states that are accepting our HCP that won’t accept our CCP? My guess will be that he won’t hit any stumbling blocks, but that he will pay the full amount. But that just a WAG. Let us know when he finds out.
  20. Things must be different here, than where I was. Our Traffic Officers knew far more than the defense attorneys; and it showed in traffic court. All the College classes on the vehicle code was taught by cops; not attorneys. Also, most cops knew more criminal law than attorneys; unless the attorney specialized in that field. Which most don’t coming out of law school. Many attorneys (not all, there are some good attorneys out there) will give you the answers to legal questions you want. Cops will give you the answers you need. Its possible he got pulled over by a cop not knowing the law. But other than a rookie, how can a cop not know a traffic law that basic? But hey, maybe the driver will see this thread and fill us in on why he did it, or how many times he has been stopped. carry on.
  21. Tennessee is an “employment at will” state; they don’t need a reason to fire you. Unless you have an employment contact that spells that out. Carrying a gun in this state is a privilege you buy from the state; not a right. So no, you won’t find anything in the law to protect you from getting fired for violating your companies policies. That statute is a requirement for arrest under criminal law. Your company is not subject to it.

What’s the SKU number on the end of the box? I don’t see anything except PC models listed on their website.
  23. You are very welcome. I think many here will jump on-board to help one of our own.
  24. Done.
  25. So they load and eject just like a rimmed cartridge, without removing the cylinder?
