  1. Can an FFL even run a serial number that he is not submitting for approval on a sale? Do FFL’s have access to NCIC?
  2. I would sell something or take out a loan. I would not miss this opportunity.
  3. You mean based on the fact that they paid postage and said they would refinish the gun?
  4. These are collector’s items, but they are not real rare. They bring from around $500 for average to pushing a grand for one in excellent condition. The Smith & Wesson factory should always be your first contact for repair or parts. These guys are a tremendous help with stuff like this and if they don’t have the parts they will usually point you in the right direction. If you can post detailed pics and info on the Smith & Wesson forum, they can give you an idea of what its worth. http://smith-wessonforum.com/eve/forums
  5. I changed my email address and started getting notices again. (It was a Comcast email and wasn’t being blocked by anything I know of) I don’t know if my PM’s are working or not.
  6. It depends on where you go. I don’t know about <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:State><ST1:pTennessee</st1:State> but in <st1:State><ST1:pIllinois</st1:State> possession of a stolen firearm is a felony. You go straight to jail. Having a receipt may or may not keep you from getting arrested; but it would probably keep you from being prosecuted.
  7. Is this not already possible? Again… is this not already possible? Is this a problem? That’s the big one. All firearms will be on the list of contraband. Let me guess….. for a fee. $$$
  8. I have never heard of anyone arrested for stockpiling ammo; can you give us some details. <O:p</O:p I read the media spin on the nutcase in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:State>Indiana</st1:State> that implied he was arrested for stockpiling ammo. He was actually arrested for violating a court order, making threats, and being accused of shooting someone’s car windows out. I have not seen anything that says the 80,000 rounds of ammo seized was a crime by itself. <O:p</O:p
  9. You just can’t go wrong with a 1911. The Dan Wesson (now CZ) is in the price range of a Smith & Wesson or a Kimber. But IMHO it’s fit and finish is not the quality of either of those. I have only briefly examined the DW; I have not shot it so I can’t comment on how it performs compared to the others.
  10. For defensive shooting you should be able to place your shots where you want them to be at 7-15 yards without sights (point instinct). 15-50 yards for target shooting.
  11. Then I’ll throw this out for someone that wants to learn something…. They could just buy a Smith & Wesson M&P and call it a day. Better looking than either of those. Better built. Full range of options. Same price range. Backed by the best warranty and customer support in the industry. 100% American made; even the magazines. The choice seems obvious to me.
  12. Unless something has changed recently Springfield Armory didn’t buy anyone or anything out. HS Produkt d.o.o. (formerly IM Metal) is a Croatian company; Springfield is simply an importer. Their name and “Geneseo, IL†is on the gun because it is required by federal law. SA didn’t have anything in the low cost Tupperware line so they picked up this line. Maybe someday they will have their own product; but this isn’t it.
  13. Check with the experts here….. http://www.odcmp.org/new_forum/
  14. Do all the checks and comparisons you like; facts don’t matter. This is an emotional issue. It’s like calling someone’s baby ugly. Good grief…. How many times has a Glock owner posted that there are no documented cases of problems with Glocks and then wanting us to posts links for them? If they don’t care enough to check for themselves or won’t believe it when they see it; what chance do you have?
  15. http://www.midwayusa.com/midwayusa/staticpages/help/help_window/help_answers/dealer_information/how_dealer.htm
  16. Just got my SOG sale paper. Yogo SKS MD 5966 with grenade launcher attachment and folding bayonet. $169.95 + shipping to a C&R.
  17. No… they can’t. They have to call and schedule an appointment. I don’t even think they can do that with 01 FFL holders; but maybe one of the dealers here can answer that. The question of the Feds entering your home has come up on many forums. I have never heard of a 03 FFL being audited… but I guess it could happen. I have saved hundreds from Midway for a $30 license. I have never purchased a firearm with mine.
  18. Well… you have ruled out target shooting, plinking and hunting. So all that is left is a combat rifle. In a portable package 7.62 NATO is devastating compared to most other rounds and it comes in the same size package as a weak azz .223. It was a pretty easy choice for me… DPMS .308 Panther.
  19. This has already been stated a few times in this thread…. But I’ll just add it again. <O:p</O:p Dealers (FFL’s) are governed by Federal law and can’t sell your son a handgun. But you can give him one or any of us (<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:State>Tennessee</st1:State> residents) can legally sell him one. He can legally posses a handgun anywhere in <st1:State>Tennessee </st1:State>that any other resident can; that does not require an HCP.

    New M&P

Congratulations. I think you will be real happy with it.
  21. I don’t have anything to offer about the difference, but in reading your post I’m just wondering what the attraction is to the Kahr over the Glock? And if you have ruled out other choices?

    Goodman show today.

That’s about $385… that is a good deal. Was it a local dealer?
  23. Smith & Wesson holds the top spot for firearms manufactures. Their warranty and customer support has no equal in the industry. However… when that discussion comes up the Sigma is always immediately brought up. It is S&W’s black eye. It is mainly because of the trigger pull. I have shot the Sigma many times and I feel like I have to pull the trigger forever before the weapon fires. But if that is not an issue for you there isn’t anything wrong with the Sigma. As some have stated they like the long trigger pull. Maybe you know someone that will let you fire one or you can rent one at a range. If your budget allows you might want to try the M&P also.
  24. The purpose of a self defense round is to stop the threat. To make an armed assailant unable or unwilling to use his weapon. Either of those rounds is without a doubt capable of doing that.
  25. Varmint’s could be criminals… and with that the .308 is clearly the caliber of choice.
