I went through it and it took a long time. The TBI was no help. They say that they do not keep information they receive on back-ground checks on file. They said that it is against the law for them to do so. (Info showing the mistake) I wrote a letter to the FBI and they sent me back a letter saying that they had informed the TBI of the mistake. Of course that does no good if the TBI doesn’t keep the letter and the mistake is not fixed. I couldn’t get any answers so I applied for a C&R license. The problem showed up, they told me how to fix it; I did, got my C&R, and have had no problems since. Believe it or not the ATF was far more helpful than any of the other alphabet soup agencies.

Absolutely. Tennessee does not recognize your 2nd amendment rights once you leave your property. 97% of the people of Tennessee would be subject to arrest if they carried a gun off their property. That is not a right. Unless you want to try to make the argument that it’s still a right; you just go to jail if you exercise it. I too find that hard to believe, but I don’t know one way or the other. 40 states allow you to carry a gun in a bar?

I agree. The thing that pissed me off the most about this was that there were a bunch of cops standing behind the Governor with their arms crossed like they agreed with everything he was saying. What a load of crap. Most cops (that I know) support citizens being armed. Of course if you try to make it appear (as they did) that this is about guns in bars most (that I know) do not support that. They put Serpas’s little blurb on there like we GAF what he has to say. Immediately I wondered what political office he has in mind.

This isn’t about whether or not shootings will take place in these businesses. This is about what will happen when they do. A business owner (especially a large corporation) probably isn’t going to make a decision based on how he feels about guns. He will decide based on what is best for the business and his employees. All of a sudden we have some experts in here on what is or has happened in civil cases. Are you trying to tell me that when an innocent person is shot to death in a business that the business isn’t sued? If they are going to be put on trial about whether or not they provided a safe environment for their customers or employees, and they think posting a sign will help them; that is their right. This isn’t about “Guns in barsâ€. If it were, I agree with what the Governor said; “it defies common senseâ€. Unfortunately the uninformed public has been told that it is.

Are you kidding me? If we do this the media is not going to put you, me or David on camera. They are going to pick out the most thuggish looking dirt bag in his wife beater T-shirt and open carrying to put on camera. They are going to let him stumble through some ignorant azz statements about his 2nd amendment rights that he clearly does not understand.

Getting our legislators to give business owners the same kind of civil protection they attempted (even though it is pretty lame) to give those involved in a self defense shooting. Posted businesses are not necessarily a bunch of anti-gun people. They are the targets of low life attorneys that don’t care where the pay day comes from as long as it comes. We can only speculate what the outcome would be of a civil suit; it could change with ever case. But insuring business owners that they will not have to pay to defend themselves in a civil suit because you or an armed criminal kills someone simply because it happened on their property would help a lot. But I can’t see it happening. Most of our legislators are attorneys. They aren’t going to protect the cash cow even though it is innocent.

No, I certainly would not take part in something like this. Tennessee recognizes no 2nd amendment rights. All we have is privileges that we can buy from the state; I am willing to pay for them and would like to keep them. We are on the minority side of this. The majoririty of people do not agree with guns & liquor. They agree with the Governor that “It defies common senseâ€. Business owners could care less that they lose our business; it would be insignificant. But if you ask people to take sides the entire HCP carry program is going to be painted as a group that supports “Guns in barsâ€. Even though we know that is not what this is about I don’t think I saw a news report that did not start with “Guns in barsâ€. I do not support guns and liquor. I agree with the Governor that it defies common sense, and I do not want to put my privilege of carrying a firearm at risk. I support that we should be able to carry and that it should be a recognized right instead of a privilege; but it is not. I will not take part in this; I do not support it and hope you guys think long and hard about what you are getting ready to do.

The day after legal restaurant carry
DaveTN replied to Mousegun's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The civil suit argument you are making is exactly why you see those signs. I don’t believe you would get anywhere in a law suit based on a sign. When you see the sign you are not required to enter. If you choose to knowing that you can’t carry; you do so at your own risk. The problem is that the business is probably going to get sued no matter what if there is a shooting in their business. They are most likely going to be the “Deep pockets†and the target of anyone wanting a payday. Businesses need to be protected from civil suits just because a shooting took place at their business. But I doubt that will happen. However… I am not a layer, don’t play one on TV and didn’t sleep at a Holiday Inn last night. -
When I worked traffic I was usually there before the ambulance. I have helped people that were trapped and stopped the bleeding of some that would have died by the time the ambulance got there. For that reason I quickly get out of the way of a Cop the same way I would for Fire or EMS. Cops are first responders and they may save a life if they get there in time. Or they may be the first face you see when you need help.

I don’t know what happened prior to what we just saw. But based on what we saw here I think two cops need to lose their jobs. And the cop that choked the EMT needs to be charged criminally. How freaking arrogant can a cop be to think they can pull an ambulance on an emergency run with a patient over? And what if the driver flipped him off? BFD is that against the law? Good grief how old is this cop?

If it is a hand gun and has a barrel length of less than 12 inches you are good to go. I don’t carry it, but my PLR-16 qualifies. Of course you always run the risk of getting stopped by someone that doesn’t know it qualifies. x

I’d add $100 to your “budget†and go for a Smith & Wesson M&P. The order the guns are in doesn’t really matter after you get past #1 does it?

I didn’t get to watch the video before my first reply. This guy was on drugs. I would have placed him under arrest as soon as he approached me. He would have been cuffed up, in the back of my car, and his vehicle towed off. And then I would have used his own video against him in court. The Deputy should be ashamed; he was a puss.

In Illinois we responded as we pleased. Whether or not to use emergency equipment was up to the Officer, as was his speed. However, running emergency equipment gave us no special privilege in the case of an accident.
