I’m certainly no economics or marketing guru, but I have to believe that supply and demand will rule. We just saw that happen with EBR’s. The price doubled with the Obama scare. People were buying AR’s that had been selling for $700-$800 and were paying $1500 or more. The minute that one of the manufacturers breaks ranks on the price fixing; the others will fall in line or go under. There is and will always be a market for overpriced guns, that is why you see some used guns selling for more than new retail; there is no market for overpriced ammo. If the war ends and the demand drops, manufacturers will (I assume) be in competition again. It may be a while before we see decreases because of fear; but that can only last so long. We just saw a forum dealer that got ripped by his supplier. He took a big hit because of the outrageous pricing. We also saw an ammunition web site do it. I like to think they will not survive those decisions; but we will see. This isn’t like the gas companies where they can get away with price fixing because we have to have their product and the government is willing to stand by and let them commit criminal acts. We don’t have to shoot. And those that can’t afford it won’t. I had the money set-aside to start reloading just to try it out. Dillon press, the whole works. But I looked at it every way from Sunday and I couldn’t see where I would save a dime. Even if that were the case the same people would be price fixing. But I’m not making an argument; I do not know. I just hope I am right.

That looks like it has all you need except glass. It is a free floated heavy barrel so you don’t need to worry about bedding. I’m curious as to what you are going to put on that for glass. I have what I think is a 1000 yard rifle. If you find a range we can walk on without being in a match let me know.

Certainly its discrimination; but it’s lawful. No shirt = No service, No shoes = No service, No smoking, No distributing of printed material, No freedom of speech, No gang colors, No vulgar T-shirts, No cameras, No food or drink, No loud talking, No one under 21, and the list goes on and on. If carrying a gun in Tennessee was a right, you would have a valid argument. But it isn’t; carrying a gun in Tennessee is illegal.

I have a bunch from CMP, but here are my thoughts on it. Ammo prices are up right now for 3 reasons. 1. The war 2. The price of copper 3. Obama. Lake City is running full bore and can’t maintain supply to the military, so private companies are being tapped for military ammo. It’s probably a more profitable market for them than the civilian market. When the war ends the demand will drop. ATK is operating Lake City under contract. They are a private business, so when the demand drops I imagine they will make ammo for the public. The private companies will also try to maintain production; that should result in lower prices. The price of copper is being driven by the big boom in manufacturing and housing in China. Who knows which way that will go. If our manufacturing picks back up prices may drop. If we continue to send our company’s overseas prices will increase. The election of Obama caused a knee jerk reaction in the market in both guns and ammo. That seems to be over as we see guns prices dropping back to where they were. Who knows what he has up his sleeve for the next big scare. But we do that to ourselves and it has nothing to do with market or regulations. As far as the 30-06 specifically; if there is a market there will be ammo. 30-06 hunting is a huge market, as is the market for Garand ammo. Any manufacture that sees a market can produce ammo that is safe for the Garand. As to the questions about Garand ammo… According to Remington their production powders burn to slow for the Garand, causing increased pressures at the gas port that can damage the action. A more common and more dangerous problem is a slam fire or firing out of battery. This can be caused by using too soft a primer or the primer not being seated fully. Also there are 7.62 NATO Garands (the Navy did it) and conversions are available. Although that doesn’t help the ammo price problem; they will be available as long as the 7.62 NATO round is in use.

Homeland Security Officials to Restrict Gun Carrying
DaveTN replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Certainly they are concerned. Have you talked to them? But they don’t play politics. They will deal with any threat with extreme prejudice. They have immunity. -
I was partial to Kimbers until S&W came out with the SW1911 line. I have not seen the new SW1911 Compact ES but it might be something you want to take a look at. I don’t care for alloy frames, but I think you will find that in most 4†1911’s. I would put my sub $1K full size stainless SW1911 up against those in the high dollar range.

I drive with total disregard for speed limits. I try not to be that way, but I can’t help it; it’s a sickness. And the smoking ban was wrong. The state (and most other states) saw fit to trample all over the owners rights in the name of health care. It was wrong; and it put some people out of business. I’m sorry, but in their business or my house you follow the rules or you don’t enter. Until the state of Tennessee recognizes the 2nd amendment as a right; you can’t make a rights argument. The state can’t (or shouldn’t be able to) force their “state sold privileges†on business owners.
-
That is correct. But I am a law abiding citizen; I will not lower myself to violate the law because I don’t agree with it. The law is that the owner has the rights; as it should be. If I see a posted establishment I will abide by their rules or I will not enter.
-
I don’t think that is correct. That was the original draft. If that had passed we wouldn’t be having these problems. Because some people thought they had to be able to carry in bars it went from “Restaurant Carry†to “Guns in barsâ€.

It’s just a number pulled out of the air. It really doesn’t matter as long as you clearly convey the condition to the buyer; no surprises. If it’s 98%; you need to describe what’s up with the 2%. NIB implies that you can register with the manufacture and have a full warranty. If that is not the case; it is not NIB. Warranties have a value.

Delton optics, cause the last Delton help thread was helpful
DaveTN replied to a topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
I wanted a one piece mount for my scope. Most were well over $100. I found this at the Nashville gun show for $50. It’s made by J&T Distributing. I’ve had it a couple of years and it has worked great. As far as optics it depends on your application. Also, you get what you pay for. I have a couple of Leupold scopes and a cheap holographic. I’m looking now at an EOTech. If you don’t already have an iron sight I wouldn’t waste the money on a BUIS. You won't ever use it. -
Is pointing a gun always considered using deadly force?
DaveTN replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Here in the forums you often see where someone reads the law and starts interpreting it for everyone else. Cops and lawyers know that is not enough information. Elements of the offense, state of mind, and case law are not stated in the written law. My opinions (as a former cop) are based on what will keep you alive and out of jail; not on how you can justify shooting someone. My own personal beliefs are that you should be able to shoot criminals that come on your property to commit any kind of serious crime. You should be able to shoot car jackers and armed robbers without the question ever being asked if they were trying to get away. However…. I know that my personal beliefs are not the law and would send you to prison. Too many parents get upset at the thought of you killing their little juvenile delinquent they have raised while he is burglarizing your car or breaking into your home. -
What is your budget? 1. Around $500. 2. Around a Grand. 3. I don’t care as long as someone’s name is on it. What will it be used for? 1. Primarily a carry gun, secondary as a target gun. 2. Primarily a target gun, secondary as a carry gun. 3. Home protection and target gun. 4. Bragging rights. Do you have experience with a 1911?

That’s just ridiculous. Certainly there is an exception for LEO’s. It’s an element of the crime and it is called “intentâ€. -
Only there wasn’t any sale. I checked after midnight Friday to see the “unprecedented discounts on select firearms and accessories†… nothing. I figured they may have had some website problems. So I checked back Saturday and Sunday…. Nothing.

I wouldn’t carry a gun on a bus in violation of their restrictions. Especially if that bus may be going through or stopping somewhere like Illinois.

Man I was going to post that but I thought… No, just leave it alone. It’s the same with the people that aren’t worried about getting sued. If you don’t have anything; you have nothing to worry about.

Has there ever been talk of TGO becoming affiliated with CMP
DaveTN replied to tntnixon's topic in General Chat
Until that happens…Garand Collectors association is about the cheapest…. $25 a year. VFW, American Legion, DAV are some others. -

Note to self… There won’t be any HCP parties at Strickj's house. And if there are don’t let him catch you handing out those flyers from church.

NEED TO FIND ELITE TACTICAL SYSTEMS OWNER
DaveTN replied to a topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
If you are implying that he is going to make right on the wrongs that he has done, or he is innocent; he needs to address the issue. As far as I know he isn’t banned from here and I’m sure he has seen this thread by now. I’ve read the threads on the other boards. This thing will follow him to Texas or anywhere else he goes. I know full well that there are two sides to every story. This isn’t a court of law; he is being judged on his character and his business practices. I think many would love to hear an explanation.
