  1. Exactly. A $1000 safe won’t protect your guns in a fire; you will be turning them into the insurance company anyway.
  2. The whole idea that illegal guns in Mexico are mainly come from the U.S. is started by the gun haters. Their so called “facts†are just not true. <O:p</O:p The choice of guns for drug dealers is full auto AK’s and Glocks. Why would they even attempt to mess with the U.S. restrictions and the inflated cost of an illegal transfer when they can buy these guns by the boatload from other countries at a fraction of the cost? <O:p</O:p If ATF agents are investigating those that buy large quantities of guns as suspects in illegal arms trafficking; so be it. If you don’t want to answer their questions, don’t do it. They will leave you alone or get a warrant; simple as that. <O:p</O:p

    Iron sight advice

In rim fire you have the Remington 597 and the Ruger 10/22 that are pretty low cost new. In center fire Remington, Savage, Mossberg, Howa, etc have all kinds of low cost models with open sights. There are plenty of used bolts in quality rifles that you can find deals on. The caliber is going to dictate cost to shoot more than the rifle. In center fire .223 is going to be about the cheapest; but even it is getting pretty high.
  4. Clear Gloss Polyurethane.
  5. I don’t know about Memphis, but I have purchased from Wenig Custom Gunstocks in Lincoln, Mo. Might want to check them out. Wenig Custom Gunstocks, Inc.
  6. Yes, because generally bolt guns have more mass in the receiver, they have longer heavier barrels, and they can be held to tighter manufacturing tolerances. But of course you really would have to compare two specific rifles.
  7. I already have the Suburban, now I’m saving up for this…. http://www.dillonaero.com/docs/DillonTacticalVehicle-1.wmv
  8. Tennessee has a law that protects you from being charged criminally on weapons charges if you were justified in the use of deadly force. Oops..Fallguy already posted the law.
  9. Carrying a firearm in Tennessee is a crime. The presence of a weapon is probable cause for a stop. What Fallguy said. Just like us they are another “special Group†with “special considerationsâ€. Castle law has nothing to do with the unlawful possession of firearms. Now you are getting the idea. Tennessee does not recognize the 2nd amendment as an individual right to bear arms anymore than the states where it is banned.
  10. I don’t think the SCOTUS really wants to make a decision on States Rights. I have thought all along that is why they don’t want to address any 2nd amendment issues. They dodged the bullet in Heller. The thing is they don’t have to hear any cases they don’t want to hear. Tennessee and the other states need to get in line with their own cases. It is my understanding (and I’m sure someone will chime in if I’m wrong) that this isn’t about firearms; it’s about Health Care. But the Obama health care plan isn’t in place yet and firearms laws are. News Channel 13 - * <O:p</O:p
  11. See how easy it is to get someone’s panties in a bunch when you reduce the discussion to name calling and trying to demean a whole group of people that have absolutely nothing to do with your problems.
  12. I think you are correct. I have not heard anyone try to make a 2nd amendment issue. It is about the 10th and States Rights. Politicians can’t settle it; it is out of their hands. It now has to go through the courts.
  13. No, we don’t agree on anything. I don’t agree with your slimy tactics of trying to blame this on military or LEO’s and calling them cowards that are void of character. They have nothing to do with this. If that’s the best you have for fixing our problems; it’s not worth anyone time to read what you post as you are clueless. <O:p</O:p I don’t agree with you minimizing what the Jews went through by making any comparison; there is none. Your crap about the holocaust is grandstanding and it makes you look like an idiot. <O:p</O:p Racist remarks sometimes start or end with “I have friends that are blackâ€, and the ignorant people making those remarks think that gives them some credibility. They don’t. No more than your statements about cops and the military. Your friends would be appalled at your ignorance. <O:p</O:p I do not agree with you coming on this forum and in your introduction thread telling how you are breaking the law as a political statement. That’s dumber than hell. If you want to make a political statement strap that gun on open carry and walk around without a permit. <O:p</O:p You started your responses as a tin foil hat anti LEO/Military call to arms. When you saw that put you on the edge of being banned, you tuned to a plea to call a bunch of people that can be of no help. <O:p</O:p I don’t know who Larry Becraft is, but if he shares your views; I want nothing to do with him. I’m a former LEO with two honorable discharges. Based on your rhetoric I doubt we will be on the same side of anything.
  14. Well here is the Straight Dope. The Straight Dope: Why does gasoline go stale so quickly?
  15. FayObserver.com - They did it, so yes they are allowed. They also reference a very old policy and say they will continue to do it. I know that when we took in guns that were held as personal property (or crossed our path on the street) and were not involved in a crime; all serial numbers were checked. Test firing is going a little bit far; I doubt most departments would do that. But that should have been explained to him before he did it. Would I take a gun to a PD for safe keeping?................. Legal or not, I think it’s sad that he didn’t have anyone to leave it with besides the cops, or that he didn’t think he could leave it in his house.
  16. I would pause a couple of seconds before answering and during that time the other Attorney would object because it is immaterial and leading. I also doubt that attorney would a) Ask you a question that he didn’t already know the answer to, and Give you the opportunity to make him look like a fool. But don’t ever let an attorney goat you into getting pissed off.
  17. Matt, I couldn’t give a rolling rip down a razor blade what any politician, the Governor, or the Attorney General thinks about this bill. It is law. Its intent is clear and an AG opinion has no bearing on the Feds. This is a show down between the Feds and the states over States Rights. I have a letter from the U.S. Department of Justice that informs me that federal law supersedes the TFFA. The ATF is clear on their intentions. The time for talk is over. Has John Harris or anyone else stepped forward to get this to the courts? Or do we have to wait until some poor smuck is in Federal custody with the mistaken belief that the state of Tennessee can do anything? I won’t waste my time calling the AG or any other politician that is absolutely powerless in this issue. Do we all need to get together to hire an attorney? With Tennessee being bitch slapped on the national news I would have thought something would be in the works.
  18. He has the power to do that right now. Sounds to me like he just wants to create a bunch of useless government jobs.
  19. Sounds like a d*** measuring contest to me.
  20. It’s an interstate transfer and falls under the Federal law. It doesn’t matter if you mailed it sent it on a bus or walked it across the border; it is Federal jurisdiction. Not only that, but if you ship your handgun to anyone (FFL or private individual) you are required by federal law to notify the carrier it is a firearm. At that point unless you are shipping to an FFL it isn’t going anywhere. And sometimes even if you are shipping to an FFL it isn’t going anywhere.
  21. Hogue Checkered Exotic Hardwood Hi-Power’s are really nice to carry. Good find.
  22. I’m thinking about getting one. Thought I would see what those of you that have them have to say about them.
  23. Has this ever been an issue? Has a person ever been arrested in this state for no crime other than carrying on property that they own? And has this ever been addressed in case law?
  24. I wouldn’t camp where I couldn’t have a gun. There is stuff out there that will kill you and eat you. I wouldn’t take guns into a park where they are banned. Find a new place to camp.
  25. You beat me to it.
