  1. The same way they passed the Gun Control Act of 1968, The Nation Firearms Act, and the Brady handgun Violence Prevention Act. They haven’t done it because they haven’t had the votes; that could change at any time.
  2. For what it’s worth….Smith & Wesson never went to Brazil for cheap labor. During the 70’s (70-77) Taurus was owned by Bangor Punta, parent company of S&W (65-84). The machinery you speak of came from Beretta when Taurus bought the San Paulo Berretta facility after Berretta finished a contract for the Brazilian military. The sale included tooling, technical drawings and the work force to make pistols; not revolvers. You should buy what you want and like. But if you are looking for quality you should compare the revolvers side by side at the same time if possible.

Let me the first to admit then that I must be computer illiterate. If you never had an issue it’s because you never did anything

I wouldn’t even bother to install it if I was you. I’ll drive over this afternoon and take it off your hands.
  5. It is my understanding that in the state of Tennessee only one of the involved parties needs to be aware of the recording. Cops do it all the time and so do citizens that are stopped by cops.
  6. You are worrying about something that can’t and won’t happen. In the wake of the gun confiscations during Katrina many states passed legislation that will not allow that to happen again. Most states would not allow it to happen; I suspect Tennessee would be one of those. But it does make a good plot for movie doesn’t it?
  7. None taken. Hence by comment about law and accountability. If there is no law and there is no accountability; they can do what they like. <O:p</O:p Here’s what we will do…. Post a link to the law that says the TBI can’t keep records. Then give a case of a real person (not an internet story) willing to come forward that has evidence they have violated that law. I will be willing to write letters that I think would cause an investigation. We see every day that while government officials may break the law; they are not above the law. The press loves a good story of officials breaking the law. <O:p</O:p I have no idea if the TBI is breaking the law and really don’t care what records they keep. But I’m more than willing to make the proper notifications and sign my name to it if they are. <O:p</O:p With no evidence it’s just all speculation and anti-government tinfoil hattery. <O:p</O:p

Anyone been running the pre-release of Windows 7? What do you think of it? I was going to try it, but they stopped the pre-release download. I bought Vista Ultimate and it’s been occupying room on the shelf while I run XP. I really wish I had jumped on the pre-release prices a while back. Everything I have heard so far has been good. I hear that it has a Windows XP Compatibility mode that is suppose to run apps that won’t run in Vista. I’m really curious about that because I use Catia and it won’t run in Vista. Is it a built in Virtual machine?
  9. No, it’s not bad at all. I have the muzzle brake and have not shot it without it. I don’t think the recoil is as much as my 1911. But it is freakin loud! And I wear full muffs when I shoot it.
  10. I think there is still hope for you.
  11. The contacts here are Mayor A C Wharton of Shelby County and Mayor Tom Beehan of Oak Ridge. My guess would be that they had investigators here buy the weapons and turn them in to local law enforcement to be tagged in evidence. But that’s just a WAG.
  12. “Best bang for the buck†would be assembling your own. $500 for a kit that includes everything except the lower, $130 for a name brand lower, and you have under $700 in a complete rifle.
  13. If you look at their member’s page, they have members here. Whoever they used had Tennessee ID’s. So I would guess their members here supplied the “investigatorsâ€. Mayors Against Illegal Guns - Coalition Members
  14. Five just won't do. Easily concealable carry gun (J-frame S&W) 1911 (SW1911) Full size Tupperware (M&P .40) Compact Tupperware (M&P 40C) Full size revolver (S&W 686) Snub Revolver (S&W 2 1/2” 66) .22 handgun (S&W 617) .22 rifle (Remington 552) Long range rifle (Remington 700 VLS .308) AR (none right now) SHTF rifle (.308 Panther & M1 Garand)
  15. I don’t think their goal is stop the “Gun Show Loopholeâ€; I think it is to stop private sales period. Why would it matter to a criminal if he went to a gun show or an internet forum? It wouldn’t. <O:p</O:p I don’t understand how you can sell 348 SKS’s in a year and not have an FFL. But there are many people that are making money buying and selling guns. I couldn’t care less except for the people that are doing it openly here on this forum and aren’t paying vendors fees.
  16. How do you think this lead to a false arrest? How is this going to be a disaster?
  17. Good grief.. These programs are nothing new and they do not come from anything to do with terrorists or 9/11. “Neighborhood watch†programs have been around for over 25 years. Most big Police departments are reactive; not proactive. They go from one call to the next and don’t have a lot of time to be “patrolling†anymore. The citizens (you and I) rely on other concerned citizens to call the Police when they see someone about to commit a crime against one of us. If a person caught your attention enough for you to wonder if you should call the Police there is probably a reason. Call the Police and let the responding Officers decide if there is anything to it or not. Simple contact can take a dangerous wanted person off the street or may stop a serious crime. To believe that this is some government conspiracy is laughable.
  18. I’d like to see it not take up firearms legislation time. The AG has issued an opinion. When asked if it had to be exactly what the law stated he said “No.†There are laws that are not clear; this isn’t one of them. The responding Officers are going to make the call on the sign. Then if they decide to cite you; you can battle it out in court and we will have case law. Those that carry past the signs have said that they will continue to do so. So it really doesn’t matter what the sign says. If the sign isn’t in plain view or you don’t understand its intent; that’s another story. To date we have had no one on this forum (that I have seen) be charged with this; so it really doesn’t appear to be an issue.
  19. I’m not a lawyer either, but most of the Federal Districts have ruled that the 2nd amendment is not an individual right. It was not until Heller that the SCOTUS ruled that it was an individual right……..with some pretty big exceptions. You have the right to keep arms but local laws will decide how you can bear them. Therefore I content that you do not have a right to bear arms. There are no carry permits in Illinois; you can’t carry. And that is the way it will stay until the state decides to give them the privilege of bearing arms; just as Tennessee has done. <O:p</O:p Remove all emotion from the issue and see if you could argue either side. I can. Sure I would like to see the 2nd amendment recognized as an individual right and everyone across the country allowed to slap on a gun and carry anywhere they like. But it isn’t going to happen. <O:p</O:p Mayor Daley and the Chief of Police of Chicago are charged with controlling crime in Chicago. The majority of the citizens of Chicago (think Memphis) agree with the handgun ban, the state agrees with it and the 7th Federal District agrees with it. Therefore they claim States Rights. <O:p</O:p As you said, what is going to happen when Daley thumbs his nose at the Feds?... Nothing. They can file all the civil rights violation cases they like. But until the SCOUTS rules you have a right to bear arms, they won’t go anywhere. <O:p</O:p It will be an interesting case, but when it is all said and done I’m pretty sure you still won’t be able to carry in the state of Illinois and I doubt you will be able to legally own a handgun in Chicago. But let’s hope I am wrong. <O:p</O:p Also, I would feel better about this case if it was somewhere besides Chicago. Daley runs Chicago and what he says goes. He has the support of the people and I don’t think the Feds want to get in a pissing contest with him.
  20. What is a Remington 842?
  21. Check with Mike at the Saddle Shop. He’s on 96 about half way between Franklin and Murfreesboro. He is listed with Buds so all you have to do is pick him at checkout and let him know it's shipping. Last time I checked he was charging $25. The Saddle Shop 5101 Murfreesboro Road College grove, TN 37046 (615)395-7555
  22. I’ve owned too many to count. My choice is driven by the application and American Made.
  23. Ownership isn’t, but the right to bear arms clearly is. States make the laws on when and where you can carry, which in Illinois is nowhere. Absolutely a state can take your rights away from you and you are about to see it happen. Times change and the situation is not what it was 200 years ago. Unless the Feds are going to take over law enforcement in the city of Chicago; they don’t have jack to say about this. I think what he is saying is that the aftermath will be more interesting than the case. Daley is not going to back down.
  24. Welcome to the forum. And thanks, but I personally am shooting for Alaska’s.
  25. This has everything to do with States Rights. The reason this is going to the SCOTUS is that the 7th and the 9th have disagreed on if the 14th incorporates the 2nd.
