  1. Anyone using this? I have never been able to find and alternative for my big azz Comcast bill, but this may be it. It appears that they are over $60 a month less on comparable packages. If the quality is there I may look at switching. Before everyone starts ripping on Comcast I will add this for comparison. My Comcast internet is so fast the numbers don’t matter anymore, it never goes out, 2 HD DVR’s that are constantly recording without any issues, all premium movie channels on-demand. It’s an awesome set-up but I’m paying over $200 a month because Comcast doesn’t have any competition. This package that appears to be close is $139. They are really pushing the cell and home phones to get a good deal, but I don’t need a home phone and I am happy with Verizon wireless. I had AT&T cell and it was terrible. I really wish Verizon had come up with this first. But I’m sure they will follow.
  2. Leather is King. All you need is a thumb break
  3. So all these arrests being made in Nashville are without merit and the cops get raked over the coals in court? Man… you would think they would learn.
  4. Wow… that sounds like a big risk. I don’t pretend to know anything about the department policies around here. Is this a department policy? What happens when the DisCon goes to court? Are you a Police Officer?
  5. The Officer does what he needs to do to go home at the end of his shift…. Period. There are no “rights†involved. It is a crime to carry a loaded gun in Tennessee. What you have are privileges that you bought from the state; they don’t mean squat. Also, the “All HCP holders live at the foot of the cross†really gets old. An Officer would be a fool to assume that since you spent 8 hours smoking and joking at a range and paid the state $115 you won’t shoot him. If a cop gets in a bad situation will citizens stop and help? Certainly they will. Will they be HCP holders? Probably not; since there are so few. But you have the right idea, if you feel that he is doing something wrong; go file a complaint. Someone will explain to you how things work; they will explain what the law is and what their department policy is. So your idea is to ask a Police Officer if he feels threatened, after you have acknowledged you are armed? Please get video of that.
  6. Trying to grab it or beat on it is only going to damage the hole and the threads. You can try a tap extractor, but that is pretty small. An EDM machine or a tap buster is the way to go. If you don’t want to pay a machine shop to do it you might try talking to the instructor at your local Tennessee state Vo-tech center.
  7. The military must not have got the memo, because the M-14 is still in use today.
  8. You need both. For sheer baddassery in a military rifle get a M1 Garand; it’s the real deal not a civilian copy. For long range accuracy you need the 700. But I wouldn’t pay extra to have the word “Police†in the name. I believe for long range accuracy the 700 VLS will perform as well if not better than the “Policeâ€, costs less and has a better finish. But of course that’s debatable.
  9. In Tennessee you will go to jail.

    Windows 7

I installed 64 bit Ultimate. Unlike Vista it was pretty uneventful. I had no sound, but a download from Creative labs fixed that. The “clean†install is not really clean. You have to select the format option, but it’s pretty cool that it doesn’t harp about a qualifying version on the upgrade. The XP mode is a great feature…. And it works.
  11. I never (that I can remember) found this to be a big problem. I did my job and never violated anyone’s rights. When you were a Police Officer working the streets did you find this to be a big problem for you?
  12. Good grief that’s a lot of work for a traffic stop. Did your Officers not know the vehicle code? If I saw a known drug dealer I wanted to stop I just followed them until they committed a traffic violation; wouldn’t take more than a few blocks.
  13. We all are; that is what the case is about. Have your rights been violated? If a vindictive driver calls in on you now you will probably be stopped if a cop is in the area. And it’s been that way for 30 years I know of. That’s ridiculous. Stopping people that are driving erratically does not violate any right you have. Franklin was a nutcase, but since we are quoting him; think of these…. “He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else†“We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid.â€
  14. No, being shortsighted is thinking that any of our founding fathers wanted to protect criminals or tie the hands of those enforcing the law. I am not absolutely sure that I won’t wake up one day and find us in a Police state. But I am absolutely sure that I will not be wondering how it happened. The criminals and the gangs do as they please while some stand around wringing their hands wondering if these criminals have done anything to warrant being stopped. Screw that, being a thug on the street wearing gang colors and tats… is PC. Stop them, pat them down for weapons and take the ones carrying to jail. And being drunk enough that someone calls in on you… is PC. I worked fatal accidents that I still have nightmares over. If you are drunk and drive your rights end when you start the car. If someone puts my family in immediate danger of death or great bodily harm I am justified in killing that person. But some seem to think that if they do it with a car while they are drunk; their rights are more important than my family’s safety. Wrong… put their sorry azzes in jail.
  15. They always put it out to us as “Make your own caseâ€. You can have a traffic offense on anyone (drunk or not) in a few blocks. However, our Judges recognized an anonymous call as PC for a stop; just like any other crime.
  16. The guy is an idiot. It would pit gun owners against non-owners and we would get our ass handed to us. Don’t poke a dog with a stick.
  17. Delivered means you don’t pay shipping. Taxes depend on what it says in the ad. Usually a retailer will specify taxes be paid if you are in the same state. Your FFL shouldn’t collect taxes; they are your responsibility to pay. But I have heard of some doing it.

    Dirty Ammo

Dirty ammo is a pain in the ass to clean. But more importantly it can damage a firearm. Steel cased ammo can allow blow back between the cartridge and the chamber. This can result in extractor failure from the rounds not wanting to eject properly. Lacquer coating can cause the same problem. Wolf is Russian ammo that will run fine in a sloppy azz AK or SKS, but you don’t want to use it in a quality rifle or handgun. (I’m not rippin’ on the AK or SKS they are sloppy by design; they aren’t target guns) It is popular because it is cheap. But you don’t necessarily need to shoot high quality target ammo everytime you go to the range. I’ve had good luck with WWB for range ammo and it doesn’t cost anymore than some of the junk ammo you see offered in bulk.
  19. Yes, there is a way to legally disarm. If you are intoxicated your permit is not valid. So just look at how you could transport the weapon if you didn’t have a permit. To avoid the “intent to go armed†statute you unload the weapon and the magazine. You lock the weapon in the trunk. I don’t carry when I go out because I know I will be drinking. On one occasion when I thought I would be meeting someone else later before I went home, since I was driving my Suburban that doesn’t have a trunk, I threw a case and cable lock in the back. Nothing can assure you that you won’t be arrested if you are drunk and a gun is in the car. But if it is unloaded and secured in the trunk or has a cable lock through it; I don’t think a Prosecutor is going to file charges. Just not taking a gun in the car when you plan on drinking is the obvious answer.
  20. My experience was very different than yours. I see postings here all the time that Tennessee cops don’t know the law. I doubt that, but I have never been stopped by a Tennessee cop so I can’t say for sure. My training by the state academy and ongoing training by our department was exceptional. Does someone come out of the academy and know everything about the criminal code and the vehicle code? No, that’s not realistic. You could have that, but it would require recruiting your cops from law school or after they pass the bar. That’s a price the public is unwilling to pay. But we did have a system in place to hopefully prevent a mistake. Rookies were with Training Officers their first year, they were rotated around through Senior Officers and Traffic Officers after that. There were both Senior Officers and Command Officers available on the street anytime an Officer had a question. A Command Officer was present in the booking room anytime a prisoner was brought in. Our charges were simply preliminary charges; the States Attorney’s office filed the actual charges. That’s a lot of steps to get a bad arrest through. Sure, innocent people get arrested, searches are made that are questionable, and cops make mistakes. But that is what the Court, Judges and Juries are for. We see information posted here all the time that is just wrong. There are tons of posts on this forum from people that read the law and think they understand its meaning and intent. Problem is; we don’t have access to case law. That would be like trying to make a Constitutional argument without access to SCOTUS decisions. But I said this before and I will say it again, we are protected from bad cops. We do have recourse. Most departments of any size have a citizen complaint process. The small departments that don’t can be handled by the County Sheriffs Office or the TBI. Complaints on an internet forum are nothing more than entertainment and are only one side of the story. You say here you are a Police Officer. Then you know better than anyone there are two sides (sometimes three) to every story. And sometimes you wonder if those people are even describing the same incident. You imply that Officers on your department don’t have accountability. That’s a shame; maybe you could do something to change that.
  21. He blew the first day, what did he teach on the second day? What academy are you talking about?
  22. You do not have a right to not answer questions. Your “right to remain silent†is your right against self incrimination. It means that you do not have to answer questions that could incriminate you. Generally speaking Miranda kicks in when you go from an involved party (or a witness) to a suspect. You only need be advised of your rights if you are being questioned or interrogated as a suspect. <O:p</O:p If you have committed no crime and you are refusing to answers questions you could possibly be charged with obstructing an investigation. (Assuming the Officers are stopping you about a specific crime and not just as a suspicious person.) <O:p</O:p Also, a court can remove your right to remain silent either by granting you immunity or determining your statements would not cause you to be charged with a crime. <O:p</O:p Being stopped is not an arrest. You can be detained without being arrested. The best way to know if you are free to leave; is to ask. If you are going to become uncooperative on a stop I would suggest that you learn the law first. Paying a lawyer to learn can be very expensive; even if you are cleared.
