  1. And that is all that matters. Because you or the ones around you are going to live or die by the choices you make.
  2. I’m not a cop anymore so I don’t carry a back-up gun. When I did I carried a J-frame that would shoot the same ammo I carried in my duty weapon. The caliber wars will go on and on, you can find reasons for using many calibers. Everything is application driven. That’s why I think people lose track of what the application (or requirement) for a self defense round is. I don’t care if the person dies, I don’t care how much they bleed, I don't care if the ammo is affordable to shoot, I know enough about physics to know that velocity doesn’t mean squat without mass and surface area, I don’t have to have a magazine that holds 15 rounds. For shooting unarmed burglars you can use anything; .22, .380, bean shooter; an armed gunman with skills that may be as good or better than yours is another thing. My application is Stop The Threat. Make my opponent unwilling or unable to fire his weapon. I want my round to expel all of its energy in him; not through him. I want him to know instantly that he has been severely damaged and hopefully disoriented. Shot placement is important, but so is caliber. Neither matter if your weapon malfunctions; don’t buy cheap guns for protection. What’s your life worth? This is about you…. Period. It doesn’t matter what you read on a forum or think you can derive from ballistic charts. If you find yourself facing an armed gunman the choice you make will determine if you (or your family members) live or die. That being said, what would I use? .45ACP, 40.S&W, and .357Mag are all proven performers. 10mm and .357Sig are good rounds, but they are not mainstream. .38 special and 9mm are okay; but I wouldn’t use them unless I had a reason, like having a small concealable gun. It’s a trade off depending on the application. I personally would not give up caliber for magazine capacity, but I might give up caliber for concealment. I am certainly no expert, but the first time I faced an armed gunman the thing that I remember the most after it was over was the fact that the mechanics of drawing and firing my weapon were automatic because they were practiced. Point instinct shooting saved my life.
  3. I have been in shootings and been involved in plenty of armed encounters with bad guys; I have never lost or been shot, but I will offer this… A Doctor is not concerned with the same things you will be should you ever face an armed gunman. I couldn’t care less if he dies, especially if he makes it to the hospital. My goal is simple… Make him unable or unwilling to fire his weapon at me. Shot placement is a very good thing to practice, as you will react how you train. However… to think you can disable an armed gunman with a .380 because of where you are going to place your rounds is a lofty goal when the adrenalin is pumping like you have probably never experienced before. A .380 is a terrible self defense round. It is for use when you don’t have anything else. I have seen several people shot with .380’s. I had a shooting victim pull a .380 round from under his skin and hand it to me. The caliber wars will go on forever, but I hope anyone reading these threads looking for good information will have seconds thoughts on using a .380 for anything other than a last resort.
  4. Yes... if you want to. Do not sign the original. Makes copies and you will sign the copies when required. Yes.
  5. It may not be now, but you would have to ignore history to believe race didn't have a role in gun control. Do you think it is a coincidence that gun control went into overdrive when blacks stepped off a bus wearing berets, bloused boots, and carrying rifles and shotguns to protect demonstrators? (Someone can correct me if I wrong, but I think it was the Black Panthers.)
  6. I went to Pearl Harbor for the 60th anniversary ceremonies. It was quite an experience.
  7. It’s stainless. It doesn’t matter if you scratch it; it can be returned to like new in minutes. Enjoy it.
  8. Without knowing your application, of those three my first choice would be the Garand. Simply because you can still get a real military collectable from CMP at a great price. It will never go down in value. My second choice would be a .308 AR type. Just because I wanted an AR but I wanted it in .308. I have a DPMS panther that fits that bill nicely. Last would be a M1A because it’s just a civilian copy of an M14. Lots of fun to shoot, but no real collector desirability. I sure would like to have an M14 for my military collection though.
  9. Those are great words and I wish him the best. But I’m not sure that anyone can get elected that is telling the people they need to work. That was directed at the class of people that elected Obama. They are a solid unified class of people; not split like most of us. And I am afraid they will continue to elect our officials as long as our economy declines. Those are strong words. And if you expect him to stand by them; you need to set an example by doing so yourself. Take responsibility and take action.
  10. You are correct; that was my point.
  11. I looked it up and that is correct… thanks. The 6 cyl Equinox is out. I have nothing against Ford. It appears that the Escape would be in the competitor to the Equinox, but it appears to be smaller and not get as good gas milage?? Any of you Ford guys know where the Rangers or Escape’s are built?
  12. Sure, but there is really no 0% financing; it is just a discount. They don’t want to discount the price the 4 or 5 grand that the 0% would save you. Give me the discount instead of paying it to GMAC and I’ll get my own financing.
  13. I went car shopping this weekend. I need to replace my 2nd car that I drive back and forth to work. I drive 50 miles a day and thought I would look at something new. I was looking at either a Colorado or an Equinox. I found one Colorado and one Canyon that I was interested in, but I wanted to see an Equinox before I made my mind up. There was not one Equinox in Murfreesboro. My dealer from Franklin called and said if I wanted to see one he had three Equinox’s but they were not the 6 cylinder I wanted. I drove over and looked at them. They are pretty impressive for the money. But at the end of the day; there were no incentives to buy. No substantial discounts and no 0% financing. The Equinox’s are selling as soon as they hit the lot, so no need to deal there. The trucks don’t have 0% on the 2010’s and they won’t discount the $4600 that 0% represents. My last 5 vehicles have been new GM’s purchased at 0% and a discount. That’s just been a given. One dealer ask me if I have a vehicle other than a GM. I told him no, all my vehicle are GM. He told me that he could give me another $1000 off if I was switching from a competitor. I said, I own a Harley. He said, I like your thinking; but that won’t work. WTF?? I don’t get that because I’m a loyal customer? I’m trying to buy a car from an American company and they won’t deal; things must be better. Oh well, my other car is still running so I guess I’ll wait until after the Christmas rush and the incentives go back on.
  14. You are more likely to be convicted of any crime if you are poor. I fought a gun charge and won. But only because I had the funds and the friendship of the best criminal attorneys in the area. Absolutely correct, and that is what he was saying in the video about addressing the issues. If the government and the citizens acknowledge that the economy has more direct impact on crime than anything; they will have to do something about it. We have to take back our manufacturing base in this country and put people back to work. We have to make products and have good paying jobs; not be a service based economy. The government can’t fix that. It is directly on the shoulders of the American people. I believe our economy will eventually recover; but I also believe it will get much worse before most people wake up.
  15. Certainly they can. They chose not to. Many support it; I know I do. I don’t support pushing anything down the throat of business owners. I didn’t agree with taking the choice of smoking away from the owners and I won’t support taking away this choice either. I will be more than willing to side with you when Tennessee recognizes your right to carry. But you are arguing about a right you do not have.
  16. Term limits are a bad idea. Besides, we already have term limits; it’s called a ballot. If any Politician is there for multiple terms it’s because the voters want them there. If we should happen to get one that tries to do a good job; he (or she) should be able to stay. If you think it’s not a bad idea just look to the presidency. Four years of making a good show and trying to get reelected; then four years of doing whatever they like with no worries about what the people want. But let’s don’t do away with term limits for the President while this clown is in office. You think he’s whacked now, what do think this nut case will do when he doesn’t have to worry about getting reelected?
  17. Here is a link to Florida’s program. I don’t see anywhere on there that you are required to be a resident of Florida. Your Florida permit would be good here. BTW…. If you travel around get a U.S. Passport; you will never have to play the drivers license game again. (Except of course on a traffic stop.) Concealed Weapons or Firearm Program - Division of Licensing, FDACS
  18. Okay, maybe it’s only obvious to me. The difference is that if your handgun discharges in an impact the round is probably going down or down and forward. A high powered rifle in a rifle rack could discharge horizontally. Another difference is that you usually aren’t handling your carry gun getting in and out of the car. Putting a rifle in and out of a rifle rack with a round chambered just reeks of carelessness, but again, that’s just my opinion. My point was that I don’t think the ban on having a round chambered was a control issue, but just a safety issue.
  19. Grammar is as important as the text or the law. The 2nd amendment has nothing to do with your self-defense or anyone else’s. If you want to tie your right to self-defense to the 2nd amendment you will never have that right.
  20. If you have an HCP you can have all the magazines and ammunition you like. You can have a loaded magazine in the gun. The only limitation is that you can’t have a round in the chamber. (For obvious safety reasons.)

    Windows 7

Everything I read said you will possibly have problems unless you do a clean install with the format option, but that’s no different than it’s always been. A quick Google of windows 7 and Photoshop CS3 will show you some fixes for it. If your printer worked in Vista it should be compatible with 7. What printer is it? I’ve been running 64 bit Ultimate since the day it was released in the stores. And other than the sound card driver update I mentioned earlier; I have had no issues.
  22. I just did a renewal and it took 10 weeks.
  23. Yes, the .45acp and the .357mag are the top defensive rounds. But everything is application driven and neither of those will work for your application. This game has already been played by shooters and Police Departments all over the country. The results will be no different for you…. 40S&W.
  24. Get some snap caps and practice the drawing at home. That will allow you to concentrate more on the point instinct shooting at the range. Practice, Practice, Practice, Practice.
