I still have nightmares of the accidents I have worked. Please don’t drink and drive.

500 yards is a hell of a shot. If he shoots enough to make that shot I would say the Remington 700 in .308 could do its part. They have several models in left hand, check their site.

I think we need to wait and see if there is more to the story. If a guy pulls a knife on me, I don’t care if I’m standing in my living room or on the street corner the law is no different; I can protect myself. Unless…. If this guy was so obviously falling down drunk that he was not a credible threat, or if a bunch of people grabbed him and he was under control when the owner shot him. I have no idea what happened, but apparently someone at the scene thought there was reason to charge him. Guess we will have to wait and see what that reason is.

California is different, that’s why a lot of sellers won’t ship there. After I checked myself as best you can, I would email the FFL a description of the gun and ask him to return your email confirming that it is legal for him to receive. Other than that you have the same shipper restrictions and notifications as shipping a handgun to any FFL.

The use of deadly force is really pretty simple. But it is up to you to understand the law and its intent. You will see the endless arguments about when you are justified, but keep in mind that is ultimately for a Jury or judge to determine. I have my own requirements for the use of deadly for that I feel confident will protect me in all 50 states. Although I admit I have not researched the laws of all 50 states. Would a reasonable person believe that you or another is in immediate danger of death or great bodily harm? There you have it in a nutshell. Keep in mind… 1. No one really cares what you thought; only what a reasonable person would think in that circumstance. 2. A reasonable person will be presented in this order… Responding and investigating Officers, District Attorney, Judge or Jury. 3. The fact that you are justified in using deadly force doesn’t relive you from liability (either criminal or civil) if an innocent person gets hurt. 4. You will be judged by people that have days to decide what you should have done in the seconds prior to the shooting. So to answer to your questions… Can you shoot a person that is robbing another at gun point? Sure. Someone is in immediate danger of death or great bodily harm. Is it a good idea? Sure, if no one else is behind the suspect or in the line of fire and you shooting the suspect will not result in him killing the victim or you. Then it’s a free shoot, like shooting fish in a barrel. But realistically how often will that scenario present itself? Kidnapping? Sure, if you are absolutely sure that is what you are seeing. Someone grabs your kid off the street; you can do whatever you need to stop them. If they let your kid go and are fleeing the threat is over. If you see some guy grabbing a woman off the street and it is a domestic situation and you kill him; you have a problem. The problems come into play with what people believe "danger of death or great bodily harm†is. Some believe that the threat of getting their azz kicked satisfies that requirement. Unfortunately they will end up making that argument to a jury. Having a pretty good idea of how that will go; I’ll take the azz kicking. The other problem is “Immediateâ€. Not did it happen or will it happen; but is it happening right now. Let fleeing suspects flee. If they are running you can’t shoot them unless they are a threat while they are running.

Interpol given free rein and immunity in USA
DaveTN replied to E4 No More's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
They could arrest you, handcuff you, take you into custody, interrogate you without a lawyer, and beat you with a rubber hose. Is it legal? It doesn’t matter; they have immunity. -
It’s a bit of a drive for you, but Terry Walden’s range at Manchester has a 300 meter rifle range. It’s unsupervised and costs $5.

I use canon stuff so the Canon Forum is a great resource for me. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/index.php But they have a Do It Yourself section that doesn’t just apply to Canon. There are a bunch of good projects there. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=256773 Here’s a thread on building your own light box… http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=281524 And someone didn’t want to wade through the 3600 posts in the above thread so they started a new one. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=480210

Good work. Build your own light box man. They are cheap to build and you will be amazed at the results. Do you have a Macro lens? I have some great forum links for building your own light box if you want them.

Violence Policy Center simply makes it up (lies)

I shouldn’t get into these conversations; but I can’t help it. Common sense and math skills go out the window. Okay, I was just trying to give you the benefit of that doubt. That changes the criminal element to a smaller number and makes the general population that is just as crime free as you are; a bigger number. So now you have, 1.2% criminal element, 95.3% in general population that is eligible for a permit and every bit as safe and crime free as the 3.5% that you have living at the foot of the cross. Where the hell did that come from ? I don’t have a chip on my shoulder and what does this have to do with LEOâ€s? Not it isn’t a fact, it’s something you read on the internet and want it to be true. I am an HCP holder, but trying to hold us above the general public makes us all look ridiculous. I have shown you it is not a fact. By “Show your work†I meant show the math. Your links are not “work†they are just copies of stuff from the net. If the text in your post is “Your work†and not something you are quoting, then it is just wrong. 1000% more likely to have a crime committed against you by the general population than by an HCP holder? That’s preposterous unless you just want to apply the element of chance. I have shown you that the majority of the general population are not criminals and are every bit as trustworthy and safe as you are. To state that just because we paid the state for a privilege raises us to some elite status is ridiculous. I don’t need to. Bradys "facts" are and so are yours. -
We also pay some of the highest sales tax in the nation. But hey… Government needs X amount of dollars. That is not going to go down it is only going to go up. Obama is getting ready to get real deep into your pockets. So it just depends on where the money comes from. state income tax or a raise in property taxes are the only alternative the government will look at. We need smaller more efficient government. But of course the government officials will not allow that to happen. Or… we need our manufacturing base back to pay the bills. But the American people apparently don’t want that.

I don’t need to you are doing a great job. Lets use yours. As I stated the criminal element is a given. We are talking about the average citizen. So let’s remove that 1.2 % as the criminal element. 1.2% of the population has committed a crime that makes them ineligible for an HCP. That number is for one year and the carry permit number is based on four years. So I will give you the benefit of the doubt and raise the criminal element to 4.8. 3.5% of the population has an HCP. 4.8% is a criminal element and 91.7% is eligible for and has no crime that would keep them from getting a permit; they are exactly as likely to be a threat to you as an HCP holder. I contend that you need to worry about 5% of the population. The other 95% is of no threat to you whether they have a permit or not, and that a permit holder is no less likely to commit a crime against you than the overwhelming majority of the general population. DISCLAIMER… I used your figures, I have no idea if they are reliable or not. I am not Charlie Eppes, and I did not sleep at a Holiday Inn last night. Do what you want with the math, but if you are going to claim that a member of that 91.7% of law abiding citizens is 1000 more likely to commit a crime against you than an HCP holder; you are going to have to show your work. -

Someone is drinking the kool-aid, but it’s not me. That is ridiculous at face value. That’s just not true either. People that have used deadly force in a justifiable situation and cooperate with the investigation are rarely arrested. This only comes from my knowledge of responding to or handling these cases. If justification is in question or you stand silent during the investigation; then yes, you may be arrested. The primary responding officers need to know what happened. -
Sure you can get full retail for; it’s done here all the time. I can only think of one reason why someone would pay full retail for a gun that is used; but that’s between you and them. Just move those pictures over into the for sale section and put a price on it. Ignore the “would you take…†and “What’s your bottom dollar†posts and just deal with the people that PM you with an offer. If someone wants it they will make an offer; if they don’t it won’t matter what the price is.

Mom calls police on shoplifting 6 year old daughter
DaveTN replied to strickj's topic in General Chat
Do not call the Police on your family or friends. I don’t care if they are 6 or 60. Contrary to popular belief Police Officers are not Counselors, Social Workers, Teachers or Priests. Don’t call them with your personal or family problems unless they are so far out of control you no longer have the ability to handle the situation and you need a 25 year old kid to show up and settle them for you. That is all… -
Gun control or not, we have the right to be armed.
DaveTN replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Give me an example of a case that could impact the states anywhere close to this. This is law enforcement and crime. That is the responsibility of the states. You may disagree that gun control impacts crime; but almost every state agrees that it does. You are correct; the SCOTUS had the perfect opportunity in Heller to end this controversy. As some of us predicted; they choose not to. And they aren’t going to in the Illinois case either; they are going to address the Chicago handgun ban, and will leave the Illinois ban on carry up to the state. They have ruled that you have a right to own guns; but you do not have a right to carry. That is covered by state law. Nothing is going to change that; its States Rights. They did what they did in Heller because while they believe that it’s up to the states to control gun laws, they don’t want to allow a state to ban the ownership of guns. If they had ruled that gun ownership is not a right, I believe, and I think they believe, states like California would ban gun ownership period. The pro gun people want to call Heller a win because the SCOTUS recognized gun ownership as a right and the Anti gun people call it a win because they left States Rights to control intact. Nothing changed. Edit.... Yes… Heller. Daley told them right off the bat to go pound sand; the Chicago gun ban was staying. It wasn’t until later that it was determined that it didn’t apply to Chicago. -
Gun control or not, we have the right to be armed.
DaveTN replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
It does not matter if you argue the 2nd or the 10th. What you are wanting is for the SCOTUS to rule that you have both the right to keep arms and the right to bear them. It ain’t going to happen; states will refuse to comply. -
One ? about a HCP requirement caveat

Certainly it can be, if the dismissal was part of a pretrial diversion or the successful completion of probation. Happens all the time. -
“Large†frame S&W would be the “N†frame. The “K†frame would be more along the size of the Ruger. What model S&W are you comparing? I have never used Ruger’s Customer Service, but S&W’s is the best in the industry if you need it. I use S&W as an example of what Customer Service should be in all industries, not just the gun industry. Of course the days of Customer Service are about gone.
