  1. I carry in there. I haven’t seen a sign, and I looked. That sign about checking firearms and bows is for returns or repairs, I believe. I know when I bought a rifle there they walked with me to the door and then gave it to me.
  2. It’s a Combat Magnum. It was the Model 19 and then the Model 66 in stainless. Rubber grips had nothing to do with it as the Combat magnums were out before rubber grips were popular.
  3. I’m not disagreeing with you. I’m saying that there are plenty of members that ARE retailing without a license and none of their threads have been locked, that I have seen anyway. What did he say when you PMed him and ask about it?
  4. We have guys retailing on this forum that won’t even step up and pay a vendor fee.
  5. FOID laws do not apply to out of state residents. We (Tennessee residents) do not need one to possess guns or ammo, hunt, or go to a range. And no, they will not renew yours unless you are an Illinois resident.
  6. It’s not a pistol but here is my “Plinkerâ€. It’s the same basic size and weight as my other .357Mag Smith & Wesson’s. Great for cheap trigger time, it’s extremely accurate, and I don’t have to worry what will feed.
  7. Every situation is different. I too have a dog, so clearing the house is not going to be an issue. I’m a former Police Officer and I’m not aware of any special way to clear a house by yourself. But it’s been a long time for me; maybe that’s some new tactic. It worked for us because we worked in teams. Common sense tells me that if there are two armed people in a house that are willing to shoot each other; the one moving is getting shot. We all at times hear things in night and go check them out. But that’s a whole lot different from knowing or believing someone is in the house. If I didn’t have a dog and I truly believed someone was attempting a break-in or was in my house; I’m going to be on the phone with the Police dispatcher, giving her information on which way the Officers need to come from, where I am in the house, where I think the intruder may be, and I will be making sure she tells the responding Officers that the homeowner is armed and that she has him on the line.
  8. It appears to me they give you six months to obtain a permit. That means you better apply within three months.
  9. I will assume that your parents aren’t stupid. Some people do not live in fear and do not let what “could happen†dictate how they live their lives. I’m one of those people, and being a former Cop I know what could happen better than most. I don’t carry a gun all the time, and although I have them handy in the house, I sure don’t carry a gun in my house. I feel sorry for people that feel they have to live that way. Having said that though I have a Doberman as a house dog, so people walking in, or me needing to go look for an intruder when something goes bump in the night, do not apply to me. You are an adult living in your parent’s home. You need to respect them and their wishes. I’m over 50 and my 80 year old Mother doesn’t want guns in her house. So when I go there; the guns stay in the car. If you don’t want to respect their wishes…. Move out. I’m not saying that being a smart ass, I’m just looking at the situation. Plenty of people go to school full time and have apartments. It just obviously isn’t a priority to you; but your parents’ wishes should be.
  10. It appears to have already been refinished somewhere along the line. Would I be ruining it if I put the proper finish on it?
  11. Well I can’t trade it off because a close friend gave it to me when I showed him my collection of military rifles. I need a project and I don’t want to mess with a Garand, M1 carbine, or a Springfield; that would just be crazy. After all it is just a Mosin.
  12. For lack of a project I am going to refurbish a Finnish M39. I’ll do everything myself except for the finish. What finish would this have originally had…. Parkerized? Although it’s part of a military collection, I’m deciding it I want to keep it original as I can; or not worry about it. I had a local guy put a deep dark high polish blue on a Smith & Wesson Model 19 like what you use to get on them years ago. It turned out great and although not original for this rifle I think it would look awesome. The wood on this rifle is in pretty good shape, very few deep dents or damage to it and I think I can restore it to look new. The guy that did the blue job also does Parkerizing…. Just trying to decide.
  13. Glock is following the Japanese car company model of putting an assembly plant in this country. Then the Americans that are feeling guilty about turning their backs on their own economy can claim “But it is assembled in …fill in some U.S. location hereâ€. Sorry, but that “Boat won’t float†for the educated buyer. If you want to buy a Glock because you believe it is a better weapon, then do so. If you couldn’t care less where a product is made, that’s fine for you, buy a Glock or an XD or whatever. But some of us do care, we want to spend our money where it will impact our economy and help keep jobs here, not some other country. Don’t try to say that because they have an assembly plant in GA; they are American Made or help our economy; that is ridiculous. There are many things that I have to buy that are foreign made because either they aren’t made here at all anymore, or I can’t afford the product that is made here. But guns isn’t one of them. The best guns in the world are still made here.
  14. I’m not sure how it’s supposed to work. The angle appears to be a little less than 90, so it is catching a little bit but not enough to hold if I tap the floor plate.
  15. Doesn’t need to be secure; just for storage with convenient access.
  16. I have a separate storage area for ammo, handguns and accessories.
  17. I’m looking for a rifle cabinet to hang on the wall that will hold 8 rifles and is enclosed. Any ideas? I would like to stay away from a big floor standing unit that takes up a lot of space, as I don’t need ammo storage or drawers.
  18. I’ve not owned those other brands but I’ve owned probably a couple of hundred S&W’s (too many to count), three Colt Pythons, and a couple of Rugers. I agree with most of what you say except about the magnum load business. While the L-frame is excellent choices I’ve have put thousands of magnum loads through several K-frame guns with no issues. I don’t hunt, so I don’t see me ever having or needing an X-frame. I bought a Python for competition on three different occasions. I had shot S&W’s for so long that I could not shoot the Python as well. But it was me not liking the longer trigger pull the gun. That was 30 years ago; I sure wish I had those Pythons now. Ruger’s are very good quality revolvers, but there was always an S&W model that filled the same application. Nothing against Ruger, but when you have the kind of history I have had with S&W; there just is no reason to switch.
  19. As long as it’s unloaded and in a case you are fine.
  20. My magazine floor plate on my 1903 Springfield won’t stay latched. Just operating the bolt can send it flying. But I’m not sure what part I need to fix/replace. It appears to me that there should be a slot in the catch on the rear of the floor plate instead of just the 90 degree corner. It doesn’t appear that there is anything there for the latch to snap into. Is this what it should look like? Any ideas?
  21. For years cops (and many of the rest of us) have wanted American Made Tupperware, but they weren’t willing to accept second best to get them. Now they don’t have to. The M&P is an exceptionally well made firearm. I was surprised they could make everything here and still keep the price low. Glock has owned the Tupperware market for over 20 years. They have had a good following not only because they made a good service quality pistol, but also because they were giving large Police departments a hell of a price to get that market; which in turn would get them the civilian market. Smith & Wesson owns the total handgun market period. I hope they are successful in taking back the Police market. As far as problems go; everyone will have them. I’ve owned four M&P’s and the only problem I’ve had was with a magazine release. I called them, they told me they would either send me a prepaid shipping label to send it in or they would send me the part. I took the part, and that fixed the problem.
  22. Your permit is meaningless in Illinois, why are you telling a cop you have a permit? If you are carrying illegally you have choices to make at the point he asks for permission to search. If you are not breaking any laws you have nothing to worry about; refuse a search if he asks and then let him do whatever he is going to do. You would need to find out if you can transport your weapon legally through Chicago. If Chicago is your destination I would guess that you can’t have a handgun in your car period. It’s a key element of the video you linked. You linked it and gave your opinion that you should always refuse a search. I gave my opinion that in real life the potential was there for the car to be towed and the three kids arrested on pot charges. My point was that if you have nothing illegal in your car, refuse, and let what happens happen. But if you have something illegal in the car, you need to think very carefully about what comes out of your mouth; it could a severe impact on your future.
  23. He doesn’t need to lie or make anything up. If I saw the guy that was obviously high, and the driver locked the doors I would know what was going on. Now the only question is are they going to jail or not. I had this happen a bunch. If they are cooperative I might let them call Dad and Mom and turn it over to them…. No criminal record. If they want to play lawyer they better know the law. They are going to get a lesson in search and seizure and it probably isn’t going to end well for them…. Criminal record. I did a lot of stupid stuff in my day and I tried to give kids a break if I could. But if liquor or drugs were involved; the parents came and got them or they went to jail… most of the time it was their call. Once that call goes out.. “Dispatch, send me a K-9.â€â€¦ its game over. I couldn’t let them go then. Back on topic…. I take a truck load of guns to Illinois when I go. (But I’m not going to Chicago) None of the FOID stuff applies to you if you are an out of state resident. You can buy ammo on your HCP, but I’m pretty sure the clerk at Wal-Mart won’t know that. As far as Illinois state law goes you just need to make sure the guns are unloaded and inaccessible. If they are searching your car; you already have problems. I don’t know if the Chicago city ordinance allows out of state residents to legally transport handguns in their cars or not.
  24. Possession. Sure but having them demonstrate to you how they can search your vehicle and put you in jail without violating your rights is just dumber than hell. If parents are going to teach their kids they owe them the benefit of good information. That is only part of the video. If that is the only part you have seen, you need to watch the rest. The Bozo in the back is obviously stoned and there is a bag of weed in the car. If you teach your kids to do what is done in that video; you are doing them a great disservice. There is PC for a search all over that case.
  25. They don’t because they don’t want their students to go to jail. I have to laugh every time I see that video posted. In real life that would not have ended the way it did in that video.
