  1. No one can legally search your car except the Police (without your permission). But if it’s a case like theft; the cops can very easily search your car. And as others have pointed out; they can simply fire you.
  2. Based on what you described you weren’t justified in the use of deadly force and even if you were its doubtful that you had the time. Open fire on a truck in a residential area?... I don’t think so. No one will really care if you drew the weapon; it makes no difference (unless you take it to the level of aggravated assault). If the threat is real you need to have a gun in your hand; not in your holster. But it’s important that you know when to fire. I see these kinds of statements all the time like they are some kind of justification for what you are doing. I wish some could see some of the shooting cases I have responded to. If you are in a bad shoot you may not have to worry about your girlfriend; Jody will probably be taking care of her by the time you get out. Same thing with protecting families; you have seriously let your family down if you have to go spend time in jail because you didn’t know, or didn’t understand the deadly force laws of your state. Think about this….. People that have days to think about what you do in seconds will decide if you acted properly and some of them desperately want to believe that there were alternatives to taking a life. I would have drawn my weapon. And if someone was trying to run me down I would have no qualms about killing them if I thought I could safely get a shot off. But that does not sound like what was happening at your house. And as a former Police Officer I will tell you this…. ALWAYS call the cops. The first caller is the complainant; the person that didn’t call is the suspect.
  3. I can't answer your question, but what is an "Instructor Belt"?
  4. She didn’t like the smell either.
  5. My Remington 700 VLS in .308 with a Leupold VX-III 6.5 X 20 LR. Because it will kill anything I can see.
  6. I don’t think there is a law against drinking while carrying. But if the cop thinks you are intoxicated then you get arrested. You get to make your case before a Judge or jury. DISCLAIMER: I would not drink while carrying; it’s dumber than
  7. Since I would not have your side of the story you would be arrested on charges of Homicide and felony obstructing. What you would actually be charged with would be between you and the States Attorney whenever you found it convenient to meet with him. (Probably before you are released from jail.)
  8. I am compromising. I’m probably going to buy something that won’t work as well as the #9 but doesn’t stink. But I’m sure not going out in the garage. So far it looks like I’ll give the M-Pro 7 at $55 a gallon a try. I have “Break Free†CLP and it while it works good as a lube, it won’t cut it for cleaning. Thanks for all the suggestions guys.
  9. “The worst†would be leaving my home; that just isn’t happening unless it is an act of Mother Nature and then how much ammo I have really won’t matter. You guys crack me up.
  10. I’m tired of this battle with my wife. “Smells†give her headaches. Specifically the smell of Hoppes #9. I’m not going out to the garage every time I want to break out some gun cleaner. Problem is that I have never found anything that works as well as letting parts soak in #9 overnight. So have you guys found anything that is available in large containers (Quart, Gallon) that is priced reasonably and doesn’t have a smell?
  11. If you are saying that your Grandfather brought that rifle back from Guadalcanal; you truly have a family treasure. I wouldn’t let a family heirloom like that get away for a few hundred bucks.
  12. It is by design. Many legislators are lawyers; lawyers want you to think you need their interpretation. Sure… we have access to Michie’s legal resources. But that is pretty much useless without having access to case law. (Which I have not yet seen, free on-line) I have not tried this in Tennessee so I will ask the question. In Illinois I could walk into or call the (County) States Attorney’s Office and if someone was available they would answer general questions on the law. (Not the specifics of a case). They would give me their opinion on how a case would be handled in their county. Such as carrying at a school. Can you not do that in Tennessee?
  13. Yes. If a Police Officer is asking for your weapon there is a reason. It may not be apparent to you at the time what that reason is.
  14. Take that $29 you are about to spend on a background check, add 1$ to it and apply for a C&R license. If you are refused they will let you know why, if they require any documentation to clear your record they will ask for it. If you are clear not only will you then know; but you will have a C&R license. It’s how I got my mess straightened out. Not only have I not been refused anymore; but I have a C&R.
  15. No one will care. It isn’t the cops or the Prosecutor that is bringing up this obscure law; it is dumb azz trying to use it to justify walking around with a gun in his hand. He intentionally used it to bait the cops to stop him, and now wants to sue them because they did. I hope they bankrupt this POS and I am really interested in what attorney would take this case.
  16. The 1st amendment is not without restrictions and neither is the 2nd. The state of Tennessee recognizes your 1st amendment rights, and they recognize that under the 2nd you have the right to keep arms. They do not recognize your right to bear arms; like most states they see that as a state right. Having the right acknowledged would be great, but I doubt that will happen. Paying for the privilege is better than the alternative.
  17. Smith & Wesson made them; you can still find them. Model 940’s can still be found. There is a mint Model 547 on Gun Broker right now. Of course it has a $1400 buy it now price, but that doesn’t matter to you because it is for the protection of your wife.
  18. Can you blame them? Someone that is going to commit armed robbery might think twice if it is going to be compounded by adding a misdemeanor. Must have met some of the forum members.
  19. So... you get arrested and get an Attorney. The DA declines to prosecute your case. You have a lawyer bill for the arrest and a lawyer bill to get the arrest on a weapons charge removed from your record. The cops are still free to arrest anyone that violates the law in question. What have you gained?… Besides a criminal arrest that you may have to explain at a later time.
  20. The business owner has the right to ban weapons from his property. The only way that the state can take away his right is to acknowledge that a citizen has a right to carry under the 2nd amendment of the Constitution. And that is not going to happen. If you don’t feel safe; don’t go in.

    Info on S&W Mod 36

Post the dash number (36-?) and the first part of the serial number, and we can give you some info. A lot of people do engraving. I would bet if you emailed some detailed pics of the engraving to S&W they would tell you if it is a factory job.
  22. As far as +P.... call or email S&W with your model and dash number and they will give you an answer. A model 36 is a steel frame; you should have no problems. I’ve had mine for over 30 years and use +P in it with no concerns. I pretty sure I called them years ago and they told me it was okay. It gets carried more than my semi autos. That’s one of the things I like about S&W; just pick up the phone, they will talk with you about anything. New ones are that high because they are part of the “Classics†line. (Bringing back old guns because people will pay more for them thinking they are the real deal) The 3†is kind hard to find. I wouldn’t pay $500 of it unless you want to pay a premium for the 3†barrel. You can still find Model 36’s for around $300-400 if you watch. I don’t know if the new 36 “classics†have a lock or not, but the pre-locks will hold better value.
  23. I don’t know if mine was Thunderbolt, but a 500 round box of Remington was included in my first rounds. It didn’t work well, neither did federal or Winchester. CCI Mini-Mag gave the best results. However, as I said before until you have over 500 rounds through it you are wasting your time trying to find what it likes. Between 500 and 1000 mine became reliable using CCI. An absolute must is that you go to the rimfire forum, go to the Remington section and look at the sub forum specifically for the 597. There is a wealth of information there on helping you through the break in process. Before you disassemble or clean you rifle you should read the threads about proper guide rod screw tightening.
  24. Tora, Tora, Tora is the most accurate account of Pearl Harbor; but I bet he has seen that one. Crimson Tide is great entertainment. But in real life would have been real short. U-571 and The Hunt for Red October are good.
  25. Remington 597 The Good…. Mine was a tack driver out of the box. It outshot any other 22 I have owed. It is closer to a full size rifle than some of the others. I paid $145 on sale at Bass Pro with a Red Head scope mounted. The bad…. I had all the fail to feed problems. It took 500 to 1000 rounds to break the gun in to where it would run the way it should. (There is a lot of info on Rimfire about the problem). CCI mini-mags would work pretty well for me. Remington bulk packs were unreliable and Federals would hardly work at all in the rifle. Overall….. I got mine broke in and then sold it to my BIL because he wanted something cheap. I wish I had not sold it. If you want an accurate rifle without spending a lot of money; the Remington 597 is it. But if you don’t want to go through the break-in; I would stay away.
