I don’t hunt, so I’m just a casual observer in the hunting controversy; but I do have a dog in this fight, as do all shooters. But I would agree with you that if there is lead free hunting ammo available, using it is the responsible thing to do. But I would guess you are going to have hunters whining about accuracies, etc. Because it’s not as “special” as their very special Super-duper hunting ammo they use (Whatever is on sale at their favorite site or local store). But I could be wrong. However, it’s not as simple (at this time) for handgun ammunition. The California bill posted above wants to outlaw it; even when not used for hunting. The bill starts by pointing out the dangers of lead. I have worked with lead in manufacturing and no one is in disagreement with those pointing out its dangers. As far as will it happen in TN.. TN like most other states had no problem with jumping on the non-smoking bandwagon and kicking those deadly smokers out of our restaurants and more than 50 feet away from building entrances so we did not have to be exposed to even a whiff of the “extremely deadly” second hand smoke, even in areas where proper ventilation was installed. And even when it put some small businesses out of business. So, I don’t think they will have much trouble getting onboard with the lead issue. (I’m being facetious with the smoking comments, but we don’t have a little facetious emoji.) What impact will it have on 2nd amendment rights? Zero. But of course, the SCOTUS will need to rule on that. My guess is they will leave it at the state level as a reasonable restriction. Will it make it more expensive for you to exercise those rights? Possibly. I think it will hurt ranges, as more shooters will seek out private property to shoot on. I also think that with the daily breakthroughs our country makes with materials and processes lead could possibly become a non-issue. We shall see.

The lights weren’t flashing. Even with everyone double checking, and a National Guard Officer walking out on the tracks and checking. If the speed/distance they gave in the story is correct they had 37 seconds from the time they saw the train. Apparently not enough time for 3 or the 5 crew members to get out of the tank; they were killed on impact.

Sometimes when I see these pictures, I am curious about “the rest of the story”. Here is the rest of the story about that Train/Tank collision. http://nrhs1.org/assets/1304_April_Dispatcher.pdf

What was your last/next range toy? [with pictures]
DaveTN replied to DaveTN's topic in Show and Tell
Yes, if you have a range on your property you are more than welcome to post here. I'm jealous of those that do. I keep telling my wife, the next time I move, if we do, we are moving to somewhere that I can walk outside in my underwear and crocs, with a cup of coffee, and shoot. I may even post pictures of that. -
2020 Proposed Legislation of Note
DaveTN replied to Worriedman's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I hope I am wrong, but I don’t see anything that keeps a business from posting their property, or being held responsible if they do, passing. Memphis and Nashville both, and to a lesser extent Chattanooga depend on the tourism and convention industry; these laws would impact that income. Otherwise I think we would already have Constitutional Carry. But hey, I could be wrong. I hope they all pass. -
Approx $700 each. $240 per rifle to convert M4’s to M4A1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M4_carbine
-
I doubt they are including the cost of the rifle. I suspect that $1000 is to put a $350 (probably $250 to them) part on an M4 they already have. That doesn’t seem like a very good deal for taxpayers to me.

Probably for the first tests to Mars they would.

I agree. But I'm pretty sure that’s because that’s what I want it to say. I can see how a DA could charge one of us if the vehicle is locked, but the glove box where the gun was stored wasn’t locked. Since it appears this is going to be an issue; we need an AG’s opinion.
-
Exactly. A DA could charge you with that if you left your windows down and a gun lying on the seat in plain view, if he thought he could get a jury to buy it. But we are discussing those of us who may have to leave a gun in the glove box or console out of sight in a locked car vs. those that think we need a safe built into our car if we own a gun, and will still want to charge us if a criminal breaks in and gets it. We have laws in place to deal with reckless conduct. We don’t need any new laws.
-
No. Ask yourself this, does the perp have to commit a crime to get my gun? If you think what the vehicle owner did was reckless; then charge them with that. But if you think you are going to put a criminal on the stand to testify against one of us about whether or not our vehicle was locked; that’s crazy. Although I would bet a liberal prosecutor would want to do just that. But we aren’t discussing civil liability only. This is what Doug posted in the first post: You can be sued civilly whether there is a criminal law or not. If an attorney thinks a Judge/jury will give him money based on how your weapon was secured, or not secured in your vehicle, and you have money to get; he will sue you. Does he need the law? No. Would it help him get more punitive damages? Yes.

Well first off, we all know the fighter pilots that will get shot down and need this aren’t in the Air Force. And…if they are giving these to the Air Force, what kind of cool stuff will the Space Force get?
-
Did it clean up okay? There wasn’t any flame cutting was there?

We have a responsibility to not be criminally reckless. You are trying to go down a path painted with careless gun owners leaving their guns laying on the seat, or in the console with the windows rolled down. Is that how these guns are being stolen? My WAG guess here is No, never. They are being stolen in auto burglaries where vehicles are being entered, probably by force, but at least illegally (keys, slim Jims, etc). When I put my gun out of sight and lock my doors; that’s all the responsibility I have. And in your scenario where someone has a gun sitting in a place where it can be seen and it gets stolen then used in a crime, who is going to testify? Are you going to put the person that burglarized the car and then committed another crime on the witness stand? I’m not saying you couldn’t find a gun hating DA to try that; but without a confession that isn’t going anywhere. Its bad enough that our state refuses to recognize our 2nd amendment right and we have to deal with it as a privilege we buy from the state, but now you want to charge us criminally.
-
Agree that there is a line where the victim of a burglary can be charged criminally because of the criminal acts committed by another??? No we can’t agree. Not only can we not agree, but the courts will never uphold it. I don’t doubt that this sounds good to the liberals in the Metro Government, or that they may even get something like this passed; but it defies common sense. Because there are people that would try to make them believe that gun owners will leave them lying on the seat or dash with the windows rolled down. Is that how these guns are being stolen, plain view with the windows down?? Has even one gun been stolen because it was in plain view with the windows down?

Tullahoma has an indoor range that lets you shoot from a seated position? Sorry, that was the most interesting part of your story. Errr....yeah, great review.

Glad to hear it. Because I interpreted your previous post as saying that after talking to LEO’s, you determined that I am not a responsible gun owner. Glad to hear that is not what you were saying. Because as a gun owner and a former Police Officer, who handled countless burglaries to an auto, I find it appalling that anyone would want to hold a law-abiding citizen responsible criminally or civilly for the criminal acts of another. Who or why they are doing it, or the failures of how kids are raised don’t really have anything to do with it.

Well, and I don’t see why that would cost more than my Winchester Super Grade or My Remington 700 VLS, but I’m sure it will.

They have a much bigger one next week (That is online only) https://www.alexanderauctions.com/search/auctions/

The barrel falls off, you say a bunch of curse words, and you miss what you are shooting at. But that’s just a WAG.

Are we going “Back to the Future”?? So many MFG’s have brought new bolts to market. I don’t hunt, but I love bolt action rifles. All of mine are blue and Walnut (or laminate); I don’t have any “tactical” bolts. But anyway…. this is interesting. With it, it appears SIG is going to try to market another designer round they think we need; the .277 SIG Fury. However, they are offering it in the venerable .308 Winchester. https://www.sigsauer.com/store/sig-cross-rifle.html
