  1. Do your friends and family members that are Police Officers share your concerns for their safety? As a Police Officer I never thought that a law, any law, would keep a criminal from trying to shoot me. Keeping me alive was a job I took very seriously; but it was my job. With more guns being in the hands of incompetents out in the open, in their daily travels; I can see the possibility for more people getting shot. But guns are already legal in cars and in homes, those are the places most of those stupid actions that get people killed take place.
  2. I looked to see if that was true. Below is the FBI chart for violent crime reported to St. Louis Police Department. It appears to me crime was dropping steadily from 2008 to 2013. It appears that something happened at the beginning of 2013 to start an increase. Then it appears something happened at the beginning of 2017 to start a decrease. For what it's worth, SLMPD does have all the info available online. But I could not find it by year, only by month. They do also list agg assaults with firearms separate from others. But it would take importing 24 months of data, sorting it, and removing multiple charges during the same offense to get a good indication of what happened, and see if that claim is accurate. From the graph below it would appear that claim is hogwash.
  3. Just because they are declaring bankruptcy doesn’t mean they are out of business. You could buy them and hire a bunch of forum members to work there.
  4. I would agree with that within larger departments and to the extent of the Chiefs, Asst Chiefs, or Sheriff’s. But most Command Officers, Police Officers, and Deputies I know or have worked with support citizens carrying guns. Of course, there are some that don’t, and they are the ones that will be used as examples. It always pizzes me off when people say the cops don’t support carry because some LE group didn’t support it. The International Association of Chiefs of Police, The National Association of Chiefs of Police, The National Sheriffs' Association, those are political groups that do not represent rank and file LEO’s. Groups like the PBA or FOP represent cops and most of those group support armed citizens. Of course you find bills where their opinion didn’t go the way you thought it should. We have that right here on this very forum. We have folks that don’t want an option that may allow more Tennesseans to carry, because they are worried about their ability to carry in some other state. We have folks that don’t want Constitutional carry because they are concerned people won’t be trained (like they are now??) or because it may impact privileges they purchase from the state. Whether legal or not you always have a decision to make when being stopped by an Officer; if you are carrying a gun. Right now it isn’t required by law for you to do so. I’m notifying; but that’s my personal choice based on my knowledge from having been a Police Officer.
  5. I know you don’t believe this, but I doubt many cops have stopped people simply because they have a firearm. Other activities or factors coupled with a gun could lead to a stop. However, we could argue probable cause or reasonable suspicion all day long, the bottom line is the Officer will articulate it in court if necessary or he won’t, and a Judge will rule. A Police Officer should never need to violate someone’s Constitutional rights to do their job. Would you and I agree on a case by case basis if that had occurred? Of course not.
  6. Probable cause isn’t needed for a stop, just reasonable suspicion. That’s a pretty low bar and its not gone just because it's legal for anyone to carry a gun. If a Police Officer stops someone; I’m sure they will be able to articulate in court why they stopped them. Part of that reasonable suspicion may be seeing a gun or the printing of a gun. I don’t see how her concerns about legal carry, (I’m assuming she means felon in possession) are a big deal. It’s been many years since I’ve worked a LE computer, but we could not tell if a person was a convicted felon by simply running a driver’s license or a check for wanted. We would have to run a criminal background check to find that out. It took a little longer and it cost our department more; but it could be done. I don’t know what the situation is now a days, maybe a LEO can fill us in? If they check a person, they check okay, and they let them go, they then find out later the person is a convicted felon; they can go back, get them and charge them. If I’m not mistaken “Felon in possession” is mandatory prison time in this state. So you will know if they are a felon with a gun; they will run and try to ditch the gun (along with their drugs) before they are caught.
  7. Here is their website. They even have a video on their website called “Jimenez Arms JA 9 Review Budget or Junk”, if you can believe it. I especially liked the intro with him switching to shooting with his ball cap backwards and the gun sideways, and then to wearing a hoodie, with some AC/DC knock off playing in the background. https://jimenezarmsinc.com/dealer-locator-2-2/ Here are some stories on the illegal sales, although they don’t really say how Jimenez was involved. https://www.kansascity.com/news/local/crime/article220568445.html https://www.kansascity.com/news/local/crime/article230943443.html
  8. Well... it didn't take the Tennessean long to publish this story. You think maybe they had it sitting in the wings?
  9. That’s not correct. Illinois allows you to have a gun in your car if you are carrying a permit from your state that allows you to carry a weapon in public. Enhanced or concealed; it does not matter. I don’t know if that’s the only state, but it’s the only one I cared enough to check on. However, until we see the bill in a couple of days; we don’t know what’s in it. I doubt it will have ANY impact on my carry permit, or the state continuing to accept my money for the card. But as hard as it is to imagine; I could be wrong.
  10. This is the headline on WKRN. I don't know for sure, but I'm betting that is fake news. https://www.wkrn.com/news/governor-bill-lee-introduces-legislation-to-remove-handgun-carry-permits-within-tennessee/
  11. I have zero concerns about Constitutional carry. Sure, people need to be trained, but that will be their responsibility to get that training. If they screw up because they weren’t properly trained, they will be sued the same as if they were properly trained and screw up. As a former Police Officer, I can assure you with absolute certainty that the government can’t protect you. Therefore, they shouldn’t get to decide who can carry and who can’t. The Tennessee HCP class is a joke, I don’t think many that are trained will argue that. We also stand by and see/hear the stories of people in those classes that are passed and have absolutely no chance of hitting a target in a stressful situation. The bill should be available in a couple of days. That’s what the Governor said anyway. We shall see what’s in it. What we have not seen in the past is the Governor making the announcement and giving his support at the time the bill is proposed. At least until someone finds a problem with the bill; this is a GREAT thing. I’ve been on this forum since it started. I support Constitutional Carry, although I don’t believe my right to carry comes from the 2nd amendment. I’ve always been told “Baby Steps, Dave, we have to take baby steps” I’ve always thought that was BS. The baby steps are over. We will now get it, or we won’t.
  12. wrong place
  13. Thank you Governor Lee!
  14. Finally!! He wants to make theft of a firearm a felony with mandatory jail time instead of arresting me when a criminal steals a gun from my car. Who would have ever thunk it! The Tennessean had to HATE printing this story.
  15. There have been bills in the past, but is there a current bill he is supporting? It still has to get though the legislature. Good news though. I also hope he suggests legislation that really puts the screws to violent offenders. Maybe the surprise is a bill will also be announced.
  16. The Virginia Beach shooter did, also a workplace shooting. You can read here both sides make their arguments whether it was a factor. But with legislation pending (maybe??, I don’t know what happened to it) to remove suppressors from the NFA, you can bet the anti-gun lobby will jump on it anytime one is used. https://www.scmp.com/news/world/united-states-canada/article/3012756/virginia-police-search-motive-shooting-killed-least Common sense would need to be applied to this issue.
  17. Let me see.... The governor will announce his support for permitless carry, and an increase in penalties for those who use guns illegally.
  18. People that go into their workplace to kill people, know that they will either be killed or spend the rest of their lives in prison. Even if you don’t have any religious beliefs; you have to be really messed up mentally to give up your life over being fired from a job. Once again mental health is the cause. And I would assume that once again lives were lost because of the time it took for the 2nd gun to arrive on the scene.
  19. NC doesn’t allow for it. They don’t even allow Federal LEO’s an exception.
  20. It sounds like this will be a range toy?? I don’t own a 45-70, but I wouldn’t think shooting 50-100 rounds of it would be fun. Those who have one can chime in. I would go with the 1894, but in 45 Colt instead of .44 mag. So that when you figure out that you want a cowboy gun, your revolver and rifle will be in cowboy calibers. The .357 Mag is my favorite handgun caliber, but since you aren’t concerned about caliber compatibility or cost; go bigger.
  21. I got to meet Larry Holmes in 1999 and I have a pair of boxing gloves signed by him. What does that have to do with this thread you ask? Well its because I just remembered... he beat Ali’s azz also.
  22. I’ve never been a trigger snob and until getting an M&P Performance Center with an absolutely terrible trigger, I never used an aftermarket trigger in a semi-auto pistol. Never needed one really. But I wanted the M&P C.O.R.E. Performance Center gun to be a good range target gun. So I had to replace the Trigger. I used an Apex 100-B54 Sear & Trigger kit. The total for the trigger, assembly blocks and shipping was $223.35. The Apex was, by far, better than the S&W Performance Center trigger. But in my opinion not the magnificent day/night trigger I read about on the forums. I’m not saying its not an excellent trigger, but its not a “breaks like a 1911 trigger”. At least not like my 1911’s. So after buying my M&P 2.0 Compact 4” I kicked around the idea of adding a trigger. At the time Apex was about the only option for the M&P. Now I have stumbled onto Overwatch Precision Triggers. They cost more than an Apex. I have no idea how long they have been around, but it makes me wonder why they are priced higher than the Apex? Are they better or is it a marketing ploy? Anyone have one? https://overwatchprecision.com/smith-and-wesson-m-p-2-0-tac-trigger-system/
  23. Ali was a great fighter. But in 1976 I watched Kenny Norton step into the ring and beat his azz for the 2nd time of the 3 times they fought. I knew then that boxing was fixed when they gave the fight and the title to the loser.
  24. I agree that most of them have the intent to infringe on the 2nd amendment. But the claims about the dangers of lead are very real. We fought that issue in manufacturing when it had nothing to do with ammunition. But the bottom line is that whether or not there is lead available; I will still be able to shoot my guns. How many shooters have you seen complain that they won’t shoot at an indoor range because of their fears of lead and smoke? Even when the ventilation systems are removing it. Gun owners fear handling and breathing lead; and rightfully so. This is another reason I absolutely don’t want the Feds involved with our guns. Not in any BS “national” carry permit and not in any “private” gun sales (although they will be shortly). Will trump let the EPA outlaw lead in ammunition? I don’t know, but Trump is only going to be there 5 more years. And arguing that lead is safe in ammo won’t fly.
