There is plenty of controversy over running steel case or lacquer coated ammo. You just experienced firsthand the reason I won’t use it. The problem was the ammo. Don’t defend it because it is cheap; it is damaging your gun. However, if you shoot a lot and the gun you are shooting it in is just a cheap range gun; that may be a valid trade off. Wal-Mart sells quality brass ammo. AIM runs some pretty good sales from time to time. Sign up for their email sale notices.

How do you think Wall Street gave away our manufacturing base, and how will they decide if we get it back? -
Where did you hear Massad Ayoob give this information that made you decided that you would train to shoot for a person’s hips?

There is no quality difference between a model 64/65 or 15/19; they are the same gun. But there will be a price difference in the used market because of demand. Everyone wants .357 even if they only shoot .38’s. If you want both the versatility and the quality; pay for it. .357Mag is the most popular round ever made in a revolver for home defense or as a duty weapon. That’s why you can pick up some of these .38’s cheaper. However…. This is your Moms life you are talking about. Would you not want to get her the best quality you can afford? Who cares what will happen to the gun after she dies or can’t use it?

Wisdom from Rupert Murdock -- A lesson for all.
DaveTN replied to leroy's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Our economic problems here at home can’t be fixed by our government no matter what they do. Our problem is that we have given away our manufacturing base; and our economy cannot recover until we take it back. How many of the country’s top financial and economic minds have to say that before people will understand? Our economic problems fall directly on the shoulders of the American consumer. We don’t trust our government for anything else, why would you trust them when they tell you that a “Global Economy†is what’s best for us. Protectionism is the only hope we have. It’s not a bad word and it is why we have what we have today. We owe it to future generations to leave our economy in at least as good of shape as we found it. My generation is probably the first generation that has not done that, and my children’s generation is not doing much better. -
It’s also all about money. The Model 64’s, 15’s etc, that are .38 only are going to be much cheaper than .357Mag. A Model 64 in .357 Mag will be a Model 65 and a Model 15 in .357Mag will be a Model 19. You probably won’t find those in the price range you want to be in.

Barrels are not perfectly parallel to the upper. As different barrels are screwed in they will “runout†different amounts because of the machining. A few thousandths of an inch at the barrel can translate to a few inches or a few feet (depending on the distance) at the target.

I wouldn’t buy my Mom a Windicator or a Taurus. I would buy her a Smith & Wesson revolver but I would make sure she could manage the trigger pull first. At $350 you are near the price of a good used S&W K-frame.

I have not been shot, but it is my understanding that it takes awhile to realize pain; especially when the adrenalin is pumping or a person is drugged. We need a volunteer for a test.

Any suggestions for a long gun for my fiancé?
DaveTN replied to Mdunntn's topic in Women's Perspectives
Well a .223 AR is nowhere near the kick of a 12 GA and you seem to be concerned about that. But it doesn’t work worth a damn for skeet. -
Glaser safety slugs have never been the “top ammo choice” for small caliber guns. Glaser safety Slugs were designed for a specific application; shooting people on airplanes without the bullet going through them and killing other passengers or compromising the integrity of a pressurized aircraft cabin. There was a move to outlaw the purchase of these rounds by the general public. The reason for the move to outlaw them was because they became known as the “Surgeons Nightmare”. If you were shot with a Glaser there was a very good possibility you would die; but you would die later at the hospital. When people were looking for a good round for a mouse gun they looked at Glaser because they thought that if people wanted them outlawed they must be a wicked deadly round. You still see some people posting that nonsense on the forums today because they don’t know any better. Truth is, Glaser is a terrible SD round; I can’t think of one that would be worse. Couple that with a .380 and you have a pretty useless round. An argument can be made that a .380 is better than nothing. An argument can be made that a .380 will kill someone. If you are shooting people that are not shooting back; you might be fine. But what if you are facing an armed opponent? Does anyone want to try to make an argument that a .380 is a good round to make an armed opponent unwilling or unable to fire his weapon at you? I have responded to many shootings and seen people shot with a variety of calibers. A .380 was the only round I have had handed to me by the victim of a shooting after he picked it out of his side. I have also responded to shootings where someone that was shot with a .22 was as dead as could be. But that doesn’t make it a good carry round. A .22 through the heart or forehead at close range would probably kill someone instantly. Do you think with the adrenaline rush and stress of a shooting you could make those shots? I’m not a Doctor so I don’t know if those .22 shots would kill them instantly. But I have faced an armed suspect in a shooting and in my opinion I don’t think most people could place their shots that carefully. I wasn’t able to.

My first thought is always “Why or how are the cops finding your gun?†the answer to that usually makes the sign issue moot.

You were supposed to leave a copy with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office. (The Sherriff is the CLEO). Notifying him is something the ATF does, but he is not required to sign anything or send them anything. I think they just do it in case he knows you are a nut case but it doesn’t show in your background check.

Do a Google search there are a bunch of threads and sites about your problem, complete with some fixes and things to try.

Not enough information. I’m not a Glock guy either, but what is it about the Glock that rules it out? And have you looked at the M&P? If this is strictly a competition gun I would go 9mm. If you might carry it regularly I would go .40S&W. However… if all you want to know about is the XD, the only thing I can add is that the XD isn’t a Springfield. I don’t see a question about the .380; so I won’t comment on it.

I won’t pay to shop at either of them. My wife says she gets better deals and better quality products at Kroger. But Kroger doesn’t sell gun safes, Tools, Computers, or 55 gallon drums of mayonnaise. So you have to go to others stores for those things.

Is it a real Microsoft message or is it a web scam? What does it want you to do? You are a cop and Uncle Bill wants paid; I assume you are going to set a god example and do the right thing.

If the problem is real (I’m not saying it is) and they don’t recall and continue shipping product; then yes they are not only evil; but IMO criminally and civilly liable. The same thing happened to Glock during the 80’s and 90’s. They couldn’t admit that their guns fired without pulling the trigger so they did “upgrades†and moved on. Yet today you have new Glocksters that will inform you it is impossible for a Glock to fire without pulling the trigger. How do they know that? They don’t; but they have to say they believe it to justify what they want to buy. How do you know some weren’t? They figured out how to sell more rifles than those three combined. They continually hold the #1 position for bolt action Rifles, Savage is closing in on them but they are still so far behind they can’t see the taillights. I have an X-Pro mark trigger and it is great, breaks perfect from the factory and I had no need to adjust it. I too am one of the ones that think a lot of gun problems come from those that have absolutely no skills deciding they can tune up their guns. Gun manufacturers should not be held liable for that. Mechanical devices can fail…. Period. Whether it is the trigger mechanism of a gun or parts of a car. If you are loading/unloading a rifle, moving the safety Off/On or rotating the bolt on a live round and it fires; that may well be a mechanical failure and is an accidental discharge (Yes, they do happen). If you kill someone else in the room or shoot yourself; that is a negligent discharge. I watched all the videos on the Remington TV website and I think they did a pretty good job of debunking the unscrupulous reporting. The only question I was left with was about the two guns they showed malfunctioning. It appears to me that this wasn’t just luck that they caught this on video; it appears those two guns had a repeatable problem. Was that video used in court, and if it was what did the gunsmith that examined those rifles testify to as the cause? I haven’t watched the entire CNBC show yet, but it is on again at 9PM tonight; so I have the DVR set.

Help me test out the possible replacement for vBulletin... TGO Test Forum
DaveTN replied to TGO David's topic in General Chat
The way TGO is right now is (IMO) one of the best forums I have ever seen or been a member of. I think you should be proud of the layout and content. The only problems I have experienced are loss of service, which I assume is your provider and not the software. Having said that I think the new software you are showing us is kinda cheesy and looks like a step backwards from what we have. Of course I always get nervous when you make these changes for fear that you will decide to go for the hard to read, nasty, “Tactical Black†that many gun forums choose. -
I have a Crossbreed Super Deluxe for my M&P. I rarely use it. I thought I could get use to Kydex; but I can’t. I have wanted to give the D.M. Bullard a try but haven’t got around to it. One advantage the Crossbreed has is that I can carry either my Fullsize or Compact M&P in it. With the Bullard I would need two holsters.

Here is how I mounted a scope to my Garand. It required no permanent mods. I also have an AR-10 type (DPMS .308 panther), but they are totally different and you need both. You can get a Garand in .308. The Navy had a bunch of them converted, but you will pay a lot if you find one of those. I would love to have one.

Allround .22 centerfire, opinions needed please!
DaveTN replied to Handsome Rob's topic in Long Guns
Many of us have already played this game. I would choose a .308, because it is in fact a “Perfect, Do it all†rifle caliber. It is one of the most popular long range target calibers. It will take anything you will hunt around here. It will not vaporize a coyote. .22’s are good for punching holes in paper. But whether or not you should hunt deer with a .223 will always be good for a long drawn out discussion. I don’t hunt, but if I did I would not use it for the same reason I wouldn’t want a .223 for a service rifle; it isn’t a good round for a clean kill. -
I was never a big Tupperware fan until these came out, I have had four M&P’s and have two now. I was excited when I had an all American made choice. Superb fit and finish, 15 rounds of .40S&W in the full size and 10 in the compact, good accuracy, changeable grip size, backed by the industry leaders in Customer Service, what’s not to like?
