Thanks, that’s a compelling rebuttal. The fact that some Police Departments have decided to stop using Remington rifles based on the MSNBC reports shows me that Remington has suffered a loss because of their report. That’s raises the question “Does a TV network have protection from a lawsuit if it can be proven that they intentionally left out evidence just to make a product look bad?â€

This is exactly how I see it. Although traffic enforcement is necessary, this certainly is not it; this is revenue generation. However I don’t think I have a problem with it. Our factories and our jobs are leaving. Something or someone has to replace the massive amounts of money they were pumping into local economies. I am lucky enough to still have a job for now, but I would just as soon they don’t raise my property taxes to pay the bills. If you aren’t speeding I would guess you would drive past those vans without incident. The Mayor looks like kind of a dip chit saying he doesn’t want to be known as a speed trap. What other name can you put on it? Can you take these “Tickets†to court? I had to be able to identify a driver I stopped in court. Is that not required here? What happens if the equipment malfunctions, or you think it malfunctioned? What happened to the woman whose mechanic was driving her car? Inquiring minds want to know.

In machining we call it “Climb Milling†vs. “Conventional Millingâ€. Here is a story on a woodworking site that describes it. My quote is just the opening of the article. Click on the link to read the whole thing. Climb Cutting With A Router - NewWoodworker.com LLC

Olbermann suspended for campaign contributions!
DaveTN replied to Punisher84's topic in General Chat
WTF??? We are supposed to believe that journalists are impartial, unbiased or nonpartisan. I see nothing wrong with what he did. Why is this even news? "Suspended indefinitely" could be next week. “Without pay?… I doubt this will hurt his career. -
How you would feel after it is over isn’t really important (Although it may impact how you react the next time). What is important was that you learned how your body and mind will react in that situation, at least up to the point of pulling the trigger. You got an insight into yourself that most people don’t experience; there just is no way to know that without experiencing it in real life. I truly believe that because of the way I was trained I lived through it. I picture this guy standing in front of the doors of a restaurant. So I just don’t see me blindly opening fire just because I can. But that’s how I was trained.

It’s too bad there is no way to find out how you would react in a shooting. I found out and I was really surprised when I looked back on it after it happened.

People should be able to carry anywhere they want. However…. That is not now, nor will it anytime soon be the law in Tennessee. Carrying a loaded firearm in this state is a crime for the average citizen. I don’t support limiting cops just because I am in a special group that can afford to pay the state for the privilege of carry. With the exception of in bars or while they are drinking Cops should not be limited in carrying anywhere in the state and whether or not they are “On-Duty†should not even be a consideration. I was still a Police Officer when I was off duty. We are in a “Special Group†that has privileges 90% of the citizens do not have. Police Officers are in a “Special Group†that have privileges we do not have.

There is no “Genieâ€, there is no knowledge of when it will happen and there are no guarantees. We live our lives. I worked the streets as a cop; I know better than most the dangers out there and what people will do. But I refuse to be tied to a gun. I keep them around and have quick access most of the time, but I don’t feel the need to carry all the time. If I get killed; so be it. Don't hate us because we have no fear.
-
That’s probably why your friend took his gun; he could tell that. I’ve been present when people (usually drunks) pulled guns on cops. We didn’t kill them just because it was legal to do so. God protects fools.

I agree. I would be willing to talk to her but I’ve been pretty vocal that I’m against guns in bars… period. As I think the majority of us are. So some of you guys that think that’s a good idea need to contact her if you think you can make an intelligent argument. However… if she is doing this with the intent of it ending up in the CA she is going to pick out the stupidest sounding tin foil hats we have and label them “Pro Gun”. I can just picture an interview with some of our “The government is out to take our guns” members.

I see a retired Navy Officer that obviously has mental health issues. Sheriff Bivens and any other law enforcement officials involved in keeping this man in custody should be ashamed. I hope someone at the State or Federal level can step in and stop this. This is sad.

Why would that matter? In Tennessee if you are justified in using deadly force it doesn’t matter if you are lawfully in possession.
-
Cops don’t necessarily need a warrant to search you house. It’s just that they aren’t getting access to your house like they do to your car on a traffic stop. Plain view still applies. And many times we arrested people for drugs, stolen property, firearms violations, etc when we were in the house on a call, such as a domestic violence call. Warrants don’t usually limit where they can search in a house, just what they can search for. For example, if they are searching for a stolen table saw they can’t look desk drawers. However… if they are looking for drugs, or guns and ammunition; they have a free pass to everything. Tennessee is big on employer’s rights and not so much on employee’s rights. So I doubt they (or many other states for that matter) will be quick to pass a law that could jeopardize a company picking Tennessee as a location, or jeopardize tourist trade. But it’s worth a try. I would like to see the carry in a car without a permit.

I am I reading these threads you have posted in right? This gun was the best thing since sliced bread. Then you modified it. And now you want to warn everyone about a problem with the gun?

When did a denim jacket become a bullet proof vest?
DaveTN replied to Will Carry's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Okay. Well…. You won’t get anyone to agree on the facts because they can’t even agree on the question. Is the question penetration? Is it force/Energy? Is it velocity? Is it the ability to cause death? Or is it the ability of a given round to stop the threat? This is physics. We routinely see here where people want to throw physics out the window and rely on black magic or smoke and mirrors. How often do we see “What is the velocity?†Velocity is only one part of the equation. What is the mass, what is the surface area? Does it expel all its energy in the body, or does it pass right through? Everything is application driven….. Period. I look at what is going to be the best carry round based on my application. I don’t say.… 9mm is cheap to shoot and so that’s the gun I bought. And then to convince everyone on the forum I know what I’m talking about. You look silly when you do that. People that try to make the argument that 9mm is a better round than .45ACP just look silly. Unless of course they make the argument that it is the best round for their application. If you feel you need 15 rounds in a carry gun then 9mm will be a better round for your application. If you want a small pocket pistol; .45ACP won’t be a good choice for you. Or…. Just throw physics/Ballistics out the window all together and say “shot placement†is what matters. “More often than not people shot with any pistol caliber won’t die.†How do you know that, and who cares? I need to stop the threat. I need to make an armed opponent unable or unwilling to fire his weapon at me. If I shoot someone and my rounds are passing through them leaving them on their feet returning fire; I could be in bad trouble. All the rounds made have applications. But you need to see if they meet your requirements. So…. You want facts. Good luck with that. Every shooting I have ever responded to has been different. Will a .45ACP to center body mass kill you instantly? No. Will a .22LR to the forehead at point blank range kill instantly? More than likely. Does that make a .22LR a better round than a .45ACP? Of course not. I have seen the study quoted where the guys shot sheep with different rounds and timed how long it took them to die and tried to use that to prove a point. Are you kidding me?? How ignorant can you be? -
They can check you if they like; there is no law against it. However… if you have a case like the THP trooper that was doing them for private reasons, they could have a problem. Cops won’t be doomed; they will be okay.
-
Or buy a table saw. The router bolts to the bottom of the table and you can use the fence for straight cuts.
-
The same way you find out if they are wanted…. You run a check. I could check to see if a person was a felon in the 80’s just by asking the dispatcher. I have to assume we have not taken a step backwards. Cops can run a criminal background on anyone they want. (Provided they can justify it to their superiors.) I may be wrong, but I thought last year Tennessee passed legislation that made possession of a firearm by a felon mandatory prison time.

When did a denim jacket become a bullet proof vest?
DaveTN replied to Will Carry's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
According to you lately… You are going to shoot them in the shorts anyway; so what does it matter if they have a coat on? -
They are not the same. There are many threads here dealing with this issue but you can’t search 308 or 7.62 on this forum, so here are a couple of places to start. Or just Google 7.62 Vs. 308 Collecting and Shooting the Military Surplus Rifle (2006) - Surplusrifle.com 7.62x51mm NATO or 308 Winchester? What's the Difference?
-
Use Google. I think you have to have a sponsor. They vote on you and it must be unanimous. So if you act like you do here; you would not make the cut. Just kidding, maybe one of the guys here will sponsor you in their lodge.

That was almost two years ago. Is the fireplace built yet?
