CC at work - Small Business, GM and owner say its ok
DaveTN replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
How or why would you be aware of it if it happened? -
Reporting the gun stolen would require filing a false police report; which is a felony in this state and most others. Who would risk that because they saw a serial number posted on the net? No one, but it sounds good.

Certainly the law is debated; that is what lawyers do. Reading the written law is never enough. Intent, state of mind, case law, all comes into play. If you want to know if you will be arrested for a given crime; ask a cop in the jurisdiction in question. If you want to know if you will be charged with a given crime; ask a Prosecutor in the jurisdiction in question. If you want to know if you will be convicted for a given crime; ask a Cop, Prosecutor or Defense Attorney in the jurisdiction in question; then sort it out in your own mind. Or you can just post the question here and we can all have fun with it. Your Tax Attorney or your Divorce lawyer is not a Criminal Defense attorney unless they specialize in that field. As a former cop I read legal stuff on the forums from the ridiculous to the informed. I disagree with stuff I have seen other guys that have worked as Cops post and I have seen Attorneys disagree. I just like to point out to people that you and you alone are responsible for obtaining good legal advice. Don’t take the word of someone just because they are saying what you want to hear. And don’t teach your kids stupid chit. I don’t know how many kids I have taken to jail because they were doing what their parents told them to do on a traffic stop. I like legal arguments. And I can take either side. -
I don’t care enough about term limits to get in a big argument about them; right or wrong I would say they are here to stay. I just think they are wrong. You use the examples of leaders that are anti-gun and that is why you want them out. Naifeh wasn’t a problem because of term limits; he is still in office. He was a problem because of Tennessee legislative rules that allowed to play games with bills. That has not been fixed. I can assure you that Daley is in office because that is who the people of Chicago want there. Those people want guns banned. Absolutely it’s about money. If a legislator brings 10,000 jobs to Murfreesboro; he gets my vote. I don’t care what party he is and I don’t care if he has a gun/slash tattooed on his forehead.

I’m surprised at some of you. Personally I think the HCP state requirements are a joke and I surely don’t think an HCP makes anyone safer, more serious, or more committed. I have an HCP because it is better than the alternative but I see it as a luxury tax. It’s a shame than some people can’t afford the tax. -

If you have an HCP you can carry anywhere that is not posted. You are not banned from carry in banks unless they are posted. If you have to use deadly force in this state, the only question will be if you were justified; you won’t be prosecuted for firearms violations. Don’t worry about the 5th unless you do something wrong. -
I don’t think the Republicans will run Palin and I don’t think the intent of this show was to help her do that. The Republicans have a win next election if they have someone to decent to run. I don’t think that person should be Palin, but I think her standing on stage and giving her support to whoever does run will be worth a lot of votes. That Bear fight was great.

Leroy, I’m not making light of what they did. I’m making fun of the importance being placed on whether or not their party affiliation was used in the news article. So what’s the latest score? Who is more likely to commit a criminal act while in office; a Democrat or a Republican? I would guess it would be a Democrat because Republicans are generally better educated and smarter. But that’s just a WAG.

Are $500 or “Sub $1000†rifles an option for you? Because if they are there are some really nice options without buying foreign. I don’t think I have ever seen a heavy barrel with sights. (Of course there are a lot of things I have not seen) Unless you are an amazing shooter you won’t be able to tell the difference in a regular barrel and a heavy barrel without using a scope. I personally would want a heavy barrel if I had that option. However I have no desire to shoot a rifle with iron sights; iron sights are for handguns. Thoughts on regretting? Don’t look back. Most of us go through guns like crazy. I have been through hundreds, there is no way I could have enjoyed shooting and collecting as much as I have if I thought I needed to keep everything I bought. If you are rich; it’s a different story. But obviously you are like most of us and aren’t rich; or it wouldn’t matter what you bought.

The timing of traffic lights is regulated by the state, usually based on speed limits and traffic flow. If yellow light times were reduced to increase the number of tickets; that would be very easy to prove. If a city allowed the “Short Cycling†of traffic lights I believe that besides putting the public at risk and exposing the city to a tremendous lawsuit; they would be committing a criminal act. I have seen this claim on the internet before but have never seen anything to support it. Has there ever been any documentation of it happening anywhere?

Model 19’s are still readily available in the used market (They are Model 66’s in stainless). The next generation of that revolver was the 586 and 686. There are many variations and model numbers. Smith & Wesson owns the revolver market. You can buy cheaper but you can’t buy better. With all the guns forums and sale sites it’s getting hard to find deals, but some are still out there. Your wife obviously knows class and quality when she sees it; you are lucky. By first duty gun was a Model 19. Police Officer price on it was $175.

With the lawsuit references it appears the city has a contract; the vote does not change that. The citizens could end up paying for the rest of that contract instead of the violators. Depending on how this goes it might stop other cities from entering into these kinds of contracts. Murfreesboro uses them; we had no say in it. I’m not sure that I am against that kind of revenue generation as long as everyone understands that what it is. This is not about safety. A big flashing sign saying “CAMERAS IN USE†would be about safety. When Murfreesboro first started using them they said they would be placed at intersections with high accident rates. One of those intersections is S. Church and Middle TN Blvd. I pass through that intersection at least twice a day and in 11 years I have never seen an accident there… not one. The removal of those cameras would result in that money coming from somewhere else. Property taxes, Gas tax, license plates…. Etc.

Legal to carry a unloaded handgun without permit?
DaveTN replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
No, that would not be illegal. Intent and state of mind. You can’t just look at the written law; it’s why lawyers have to go to law school. -
Haslam company bans firearms in parking lots
DaveTN replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
News flash….He won. So now we can see what he will do as Governor instead of what happened at a company he does not control. I for one am willing to let him start with a clean slate and Judge him on what he does as Governor. -

Yes it is illegal to carry an unloaded handgun concealed on or about your person. -
Term Limits are a cop out. They are like zero tolerance laws; they are for people that can’t do their jobs. If a person stays in office it is because the people want them there; we should not have the right to violate that. What do term limits give us? 50% of the time we have a President that doesn’t have to worry about what the people want because they can’t be reelected. Term limits will not help us. Electing people that we think can do the job will. And even then they can’t work miracles by themselves; it takes the American people doing their part.

I don’t think if Obama had a chance of winning Hillary would run. However… unless something changes I don’t think Obama has a chance of getting reelected. Obama is a bad president, but I truly believe Hillary would be worse. The republicans have a great opportunity here; I hope they have someone to run that can win. But as we have seen before everything can change in two years.

You can give the businesses absolute immunity from a lawsuit. I’m not talking about recourse like we have; I’m talking immunity from a suit even being filed. With the legislature being made up of so many lawyers, I just don't see that happening. I don’t see the lawyers giving up the deep pockets. Where do your Police friends have to go that puts their lives at risk? As a cop the only place I was required to disarm was when I entered the jail with a prisoner. If the business is posted; don’t go in if that is a concern to you. Tennessee does not recognize the 2nd amendment as an individual right. If they did it would not be a crime for a citizen to carry a loaded gun. They can’t make private businesses allow carry when they don’t allow the general public to do it.

I am logged in under a previous users name with administrator rights. Is it a big deal to change the users name to mine and delete the other user without crashing all kinds of stuff or having Windows throw a fit? (XP)

I don’t think getting Springfield Armory to become your U.S. importer, changing the name, and adding $200 to the price will work for them.
