Make it legal to carry without permit: yes or no?
DaveTN replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I doubt it is tracked that closely; so you can’t show statistics. I’m all for allowing people to carry without training. But you can’t seriously be implying that if everyone is allowed to strap on a gun (training or not) there won’t be an increase in both intentional and accidental shootings? There is nothing wrong with using logic and common sense; for most people it’s probably more accurate than an internet link. -
Sorry for your loss. We should also all make preparations for ourselves. Until September 29th I was a 56 year old in good health; that’s the day I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. I had surgery on December the 10th and am now at home recuperating. They think they got everything… now it is wait and see. Thankfully I have excellent Doctors that used state of the art procedures. But mainly I had many people that kept me in their prayers. Nothing can prepare you for being told you have Cancer. But is sure does change priorities and outlooks. You guys over 50… get a PSA test. It could save your life and you don’t need a permit from the state to get one.

Because the National Standard will be stricter than the state of Tennessee and it will violate States Rights. States are responsible for creating and enforcing their own laws. Sure… the Feds are involved in overseeing some things. Which would you like to hold up as a shining example ATF, IRS, Homeland Security, TSA? Bottom line is that you have the responsibility of knowing the firearms laws of the states where you are going to transport or carry firearms. Having a mother that calls the calls the cops, tells them she thinks you are suicidal and have guns in your car doesn’t help either. The cops did about the only thing they could do; they arrested him and seized the guns. I was a cop and I would have done the same thing to get him into the mental health system. But I never would have expected a Prosecutor to pursue it in a criminal case unless he failed to get the help he needed. Also keep in mind that this was not a case of a gun owner traveling through states making a move from one state to another. He had been in the state for some time and was violating his states laws on transporting firearms. The state law needs to be changed, and the Judge overreacted in his sentencing. I for one don't think any of us need "Help" from the Feds when it comes to gun laws. -

I don’t want the Feds in charge of carry regulations. The states wouldn’t agree anyway; it’s why we don’t have a national DL. -

Only two states currently recognize a “Right to Bear Armsâ€. I’m not sure that either of those states recognize it because of the 2nd amendment or just because that’s how they want it to be in their state. I would like to see Tennessee be the third. I don’t want to make it a 2nd amendment argument. If you do you are dead before you get started. I don’t think HCP has to be done away with to do that though. Some seem to feel that if HCP is done away with they won’t be able to carry in other states. I probably would continue to pay for HCP because I can. But I don’t think those that can’t afford the state fees, class fees or don’t have the time to wait (a mother fleeing an abusive husband) shouldn’t be able to enjoy the right to bear arms. I would possibly be okay with a class requirement and a test as long as the class and test was free. I would like to see some type of firearms classes available in High School; but I am sure that would never fly in most school districts. -
I’m confused… Sensitive about what? What’s coming back around? I was simply addressing the question that you asked from those with experience. Sorry I wasted my time typing out an intelligent response.

Hatch I use “Hatch SGX11 Street Guard†but they have many different options. I use them as shooting gloves and motorcycle gloves. Picked them up a Greene Military in Nashville. Hatch Corporation - Law Enforcement and Medical Products

Common Sense; this isn’t rocket science. As you can see here you have the extreme from those thinking you will get shot by responding Officers to those that know both Andy and Barney personally, and will have the jobs of anyone that dare to question them. Is there a danger? Certainly there is a danger. Common sense tells us we can assume unless you live in Podunk Tennessee and know both of the cops that work there; you may not know the responding Officers and they may not know you. The situation and your common sense will dictate what you should do. If you should refuse to pay attention to what your common sense tells you and decide to take a stand based on some misguided information from an internet forum that you can’t be disarmed on your own property; you may well have a problem. I worked in a city of 100,000. It didn’t matter to me if I knew the person or not; if I was dispatched to your residence on a man with a gun call, Gun Control goes into effect until I determine what’s going on. I can’t tell you how many people I have arrested because they thought they had the right to be armed standing in their living room when I had been called there on a domestic violence call. Most would simply disarm; some had to be disarmed by force. (They went to jail) Can an innocent person get shot? Sure they can, it happens all the time. Someone hears a noise outside grabs a gun and goes outside. Only to come face to face with cops that are responding to a burglary in progress at the house next door or chasing a suspect through a neighborhood. Two armed people, two seconds to make a decision…. Sometimes the decisions aren’t the right ones and an innocent person dies. I have been that responding Officer that comes face to face with a resident that came outside to investigate, and I have not known who they were. Luckily they didn't shoot me and they followed my orders and everything went okay. We see stories all the time where the wrong people get shot. We try to learn from them and have a plan.

It is unless he was across the state line. And it may even be legal then if he is in “Hot Pursuit†for a serious offense. I believe Tennessee is the same as the state I came from. The state certifies “Sworn Police Officersâ€; they have powers of arrest anywhere within the state. But if you are having an argument during a traffic stop with a cop about whether or not he has jurisdiction; things probably aren’t going very well for you anyway.

Will that use the same holster as a full size .40?

Check Academy Sports weekend ads. They recently had the on sale new for less than some were trying to sell used ones on here for.

How do I know the Police have been called and why did my neighbor call? As a former cop unless I still have a reason to have a gun in my hand I would put the gun in the house and come back outside and wait for them to show. If I see the Police cars approaching (and still have the gun) I will place the gun on the ground and follow instructions. However… if I have just had an encounter that caused me to pull a gun on someone (And the threat is now over) I will be on the line with the dispatcher and I will do whatever they tell me.

Selling a gun is like selling liquor; people will be afraid to do it if they don’t know the law. It’s a question that has come up here repeatedly; people are confused because they can’t comprehend the State/Federal law differences that make a dealer not allowed to sell to you. Don’t be discouraged by it. What is it you are looking for? Post an ad in the WTB section. That probably won’t change. I voluntarily joined the Navy during Vietnam at age 17, because I thought I needed to go over there and straighten things out. I was responsible enough to work on all kinds of weapons systems including Ballistic Nuclear Submarines …. But I couldn’t legally buy a beer.

That pretty much says it all right there.

Best C&R rifle for a weekend Shooter

MidwayUSA - Dealer Qualifications Brownellls has the same offer on their site. Discount just depends on the item. From barely anything on ammo to some pretty substantial discounts on high end scopes. On one purchase I saved $140. With everyone getting C&R’s the discounts don’t appear to be as good as they were a few years ago. -

Good for the Governor. This sends a public message that the Prosecutor that pursed this case was incompetent. -
Since kids have been shot ringing doorbells I think it could quickly turn into something more than a “prankâ€. They may not have been kids; they may have been burglars checking to see if someone was home, or even home invaders. You have to take those calls seriously.

Some states and the Feds have passed laws on the use of lasers. Tennessee… From Wikipedia…. -
I was into it years ago, but never got my license because of the code requirement. Have they totally done away with that? I just took my tower down last year. Amateur radio is expensive. With my Guns and Photography hobbies I’m not sure I want to spend the money to get back into it.
