  1. When the quality and accuracy of a gun is more important to you than the price of the gun.
  2. Sounds like the guy was trying to help your daughter and your son in law out. Because he didn’t know them maybe he should have used a little more tact. But since you bought the gun for her you probably were going to be pizzed if he said anything detrimental about it. You are talking about a tool you are buying to save your daughter’s life. I know what I would say if my daughter called me and ask about a questionable gun. My daughter has even asked me about some higher end guns that I have told her to stay away from. Am I a gun snob or a concerned father? Both…. And not ashamed of it.
  3. Yes, my friends from Illinois have shot there with me. They just need your DL you don’t need your FFL; that’s just an Illinois thing.
  4. Some other posts on here led me to this question. Hi, my names Dave and I’m a gun snob. Is gun snobbery a bad thing? I don’t feel comfortable trusting my life to a POS simply because it’s cheap… do you? If this is a bad thing is there some kind of 12 step program or something?
  5. Do your research. If you think spending a grand will protect your guns in a fire; make sure that is true. If the safe won’t protect your guns in a fire, do you really need to spend a grand for a safe to secure them? Now share the lesson you learned.
  6. It’s only a hate crime when it’s the other way around.
  7. These guys make their intent pretty clear and they give the person plenty of time to react. I would have pulled my weapon on the first guy coming at him waving his arms. If he continued I would have shot him. I would have been prepared to deal with the others but I doubt they would have done anything. But you never know, they could have all pulled out guns. I hope I would have my 15 round M&P with me. Exactly.

    If you had...

I did have a $1000 and I spent it on a Smith & Wesson SW1911 Target. My second choice would be the Kimber Custom TLE II (or something like it in a different finish) that I sold after I bought the S&W.
  9. Simple…. Get the owners to decide not to post their business.
  10. These help.... PAST® Recoil Pads Blackhawk has the Knoxx recoil absorbing stock for a Remington 700 bolt. But I posted on a few forums and couldn’t find a single person that had used one. So it must not be very popular. BlackHawk didn’t bother to reply to my email with questions about if they would fit my rifle.
  11. Okay....I have a model 36. It is a steel frame, so it’s not too bad. However.. I have let a couple of women shoot it and they didn’t want anything to do with it. The hammer cut one chicks hand when it recoiled into her hand. But that’s the nature of the beast. A J-frame is a belly gun; that is what it was designed for and that’s all it will ever be. It is the #1 choice for a highly concealable quality firearm but it by no means is a range, target gun, or even a nightstand gun. Everything is application driven and the application for the J-frame is very narrow. She may like it, but if you are concerned about recoil I wouldn’t waste my money on aluminum, scandium, or unknownium; go for steel or stainless. I had a 3†Kimber SIS and it kicked a heck of a lot more than my model 36…. But I guess its all perception.
  12. I was about to go into a big dissertation about women and J-frames…. Until I saw this… She won’t have any problems.

    IS $599 TO HIGH

Have you checked Here Gear in Winchester?
  14. I made a point out of checking them out at the last gun show I went to because they were so cheap. I thought they were very cheaply made, so I didn’t buy any. I think they were originally made for air soft stuff and they just started selling them for firearms. I have seen posts of people that are happy with them, but you will always see that if the price is low enough. I had a cheap ($40??) 4X9 Redhead (Bass Pro) scope on a rifle that was pretty good for a .22.
  15. I think I’m going to make it a motorcycle trip destination this summer.
  16. ATF isn’t going to tell him the state laws on a private transfer in Florida. They don’t know their own laws let alone anyone else’s.
  17. I’m sure Snowbirds buy guns while they are there. Stop in any gun shop and ask someone there. My guess is dual citizenship like they do for driver’s licenses and vehicle tags. But that’s just a WAG.
  18. Exactly.
  19. Two bulls were standing on a cliff overlooking the.....well never mind.
  20. Don’t give up man… fight the good fight. Just don’t lose focus of what you are fighting for. Hey don’t feel bad. You aren’t the first guy on this forum with good intentions that came up with some ideas that weren’t really thought out. Do some searches… this had been suggested before. The result was the same.

    PLUM CRAZY

Good grief man… I didn’t know I was making a statement that aluminum was better for everything. Since you admittedly don’t have much experience with the AR platform or machining and I do; I’m not going to argue or try to help you understand. Your analogy on the Kroger bag is spot on. It also shows me that this would not be a good discussion to have with you. Carry on with what you read on the net….
  22. They can’t. The SCOTUS has just heard two cases and is getting ready to hear a third. Each and every time we have heard how they are going to rule that the 2nd amendment is an individual right. But they don’t….. Because they can’t. You have a 2nd amendment right to own arms, but you do not have a 2nd amendment right to bear arms. The bearing of arms is controlled by the state and that will not change…. States Rights. They can try anything they want, and they can pass whatever they like. But it won’t stand up. (Unless it is done at a state level)
  23. You can’t. Whether or not you can carry a gun off your property is controlled by the state. It is a State Right nothing in your lifetime will change that. You can get your state to recognize carry as a right; but they will need to choose to do this, no one (Feds) has the authority to force them to do that. No one is asking you to lower your expectations; fight the good fight. But as you can see from this thread; we aren’t going to put our privileges at risk because you don’t understand what your rights are.
  24. I would start with the 10/22 simply because should you decide to; the modifications are limitless. However…. If you just want a semi auto that is cheap, but tack driver accurate out of the box, I would take a look at the Remington 597.
