  1. I’m saying that thinking the HCP program in any way, shape, or form keeps criminals from getting guns is ridiculous.
  2. Of course not. My point is that there is no background check on a private sale.
  3. Nothing is wrong with you thinking you are privileged, one of the chosen, or living at the foot of the cross. But if the average citizen doesn’t enjoy it….it isn’t a right. Now… What have you done for me lately?
  4. It’s not class warfare; it’s reality. You have any idea how many women I have seen that were running from an abusive husband or boyfriend that they thought would kill them. $200 for them is a lot of money; for most it is prohibitive. I was in a state that didn’t have carry permits and didn’t allow anyone but cops to carry. I could only put the abusers in jail. I tried to make it clear to them that I could not protect them even if they had an order of protection. All I could do is arrest the dirtbag again the next time. Women have to either make sure the abuser can’t find them or they have to stand and fight. Law Enforcement can’t guarantee them protection and their state legislators shouldn’t take their ability to protect themselves away. No one should have top die because they can’t afford an HCP. It’s absolutely about “special rights†(only they are “special privilegesâ€; no rights are involved). Making sure that criminals don’t get guns is laughable. Convicted felons can openly buy guns anytime they want in Tennessee. As I said I have an HCP and it is certainly better than the alternative. But then I don’t get confused and refer to it as a right.
  5. If you are going to buy cheap guns; buy American made cheap guns!!
  6. Thanks. They have an automated system that said it cleared.
  7. He didn’t say “allâ€. I have an HCP; but I am under no illusions that it gives me any Constitutional Rights that people without one don't have. We do not have a right to carry… the SCOTUS has put their stamp of approval on that and the State of Tennessee has decided they don’t want to acknowledge that right either. You and I are without a doubt in-line on what the laws should be. However you don’t seem to want to acknowledge the difference between what they should be and what they are. I am absolutely sure I do not have a Constitutional right to bear arms. As I have said in Illinois about trying to get carry approved… “If you turn this into a 2nd amendment issue or a rights issue; you have lost before you get started.†I will say the same thing about this. HCP is not a right; it is a privilege that you and I are lucky enough to be able to buy from the state. Some people are not as lucky as we are.
  8. Long story short… a guy wanted to buy something I had. I told him if he sent a United States Postal Money Order I would cash it and send him the item the same day I received it. I thought it was a scam. It appears to be legit except that he sent a money order (from Memo Money Order Company) for the $500 and a personal check for the $20 shipping. So now I have to wait. The bank told my wife it’s a good idea to wait at least 10 days. Is there no way to check to see if a money order is legit? I hate to hold out on the guy for two weeks, but he didn’t send what I requested.
  9. I like to go out and drink. I am usually above .08% after an evening of drinking. I know that because I had a job where I got to check my BAC level a lot. I don’t drive and I don’t carry a gun. It’s too bad it had to happen to you, but it’s good you learned something the first time around; many people don’t.
  10. I suspect they are trying to cash in on the hi-cap scare. It will suck if there is no grandfather clause, if it happens. However… it was a big cost to build the tooling for that. They may just be trying to get their money back before they are shut down.
  11. Yes!! I can hear you now. Just kidding… iPhones suck no matter what network they are on.
  12. The intent of a gun show or a swap meet is not for retail sale. That is why dealers are required to have a store front. He seems to think this is a retail event. Tennessee law allows the private sale of firearms. That may not sit well with him; but it is the law. What’s with notifying the TBI and CLEO’s? Are there some clandestine gun shows the TBI and the CLEO’s aren’t made aware of? Is he suggesting they must approve? How do these politicians respond when they are asked where they stand on the 2nd amendment?
  13. You left the main ones out. Other than the J-frame you don’t have any Smith & Wesson wheel guns. K-frames… 19,66, 617, L-frames… 586, 686, N Frames… 27, 29, 625.
  14. Can someone with a scale weigh some 5.56 NATO and some 7.62 NATO and post the weights. Not just 1 round, weigh maybe 20 or 30 rounds together. Thanks.
  15. You don’t need to be carrying all your gear when you are doing that…. Do you?
  16. Then they need to address the weight that is being carried. It appears to me that there are far more vehicles around than in wars of the past. Can’t they shift some of that weight to vehicles?
  17. I guess it could be; it’s done in schools all the time. Unless an employer wants to qualify for government contracts; he can hire whoever he likes. I shouldn’t even address this its ridiculous. But if she allows him, yes it’s okay. If he forces or coerces here; it’s a crime and he is subject to arrest. Again….. keeping someone against their will is a criminal offense. Every argument you make is tied to that HCP. Do you think that because you can afford to get an HCP you are more deserving of some special treatment or “Rights†(as you call them) than a poor person that can’t afford one? No it won’t. As long as the state doesn’t acknowledge a Constitutional right to bear arms it will be the action of a bunch of thugs just like the smoking legislation was. Cigarettes can be banned on an employer’s property and so can guns. Even if this legislation passes, I think it will be doomed as soon as an employer challenges it as a safety issue. But…. I was wrong on the smoking issue and I could be wrong on this. I have a question… The land Nissan is on in Smyrna has some kind of special foreign status. There are signs all along the fence but I don’t remember exactly what they say. I wonder if they will be exempt from any state law on this issue?
  18. Absolutely. If I tell you I don’t want you carrying on my property; that’s how it is. Who will you call to complain? The state doesn’t recognize a right to carry, what makes you think I would have to? Let me ask you this… It is a crime for 95% of the citizens of the state of Tennessee to carry a loaded gun in their car. Do you think that your HCP somehow gives you a special Constitutional right they do not have? If it’s not a Constitutional right, but a natural right the property owner can make the argument that he is protecting his life and the lives of his family by not allowing guns on his property. Once a Tennessee court acknowledges a “Natural Right†we are on the way to making Tennessee the third state where “Bear Arms†means something. However…. Tennessee (and many other states) has proven in the past that they are more than willing to trample all over the rights of business owners. They did it with the smoking ban so they may do it with this. I take the same stand on this I took on the posting issue. Unless someone can show that an owner was somehow involved in a shooting other than it simply being on their property; they have absolute immunity. And I don’t see lawyers allowing the “deep pockets†a way out of this.
  19. No need for a new designer round; 7.62 NATO is a proven performer.
  20. You don’t know that. In a wrongful death suit the victim’s family will claim that the employer had a duty to maintain a safe work environment. When Bubba kills someone in the parking lot I would think a business owner would be in a lot better shape heading into a trial if he posted his property than if he allowed people to carry. This isn't a case of bad business owners; it's a case of bad legislators. Acknowledge the 2nd amendment as an individual right to carry and these problems will be a lot easier to deal with. It’s the height of Hypocrisy for any legislator to think they can make it a crime to carry a gun on the streets and then try to bully business owners into allowing a “state approved special group†of people to have guns on private property.
  21. It’s not about liability for criminals or thugs. It’s about “Deep Pockets†and paydays. If Bubba is showing his new to gun to his friends in the parking lot of Nissan and he cranks off a round killing an innocent person across the parking lot. The wife of the innocent person is going to sue Nissan. Nissan will settle rather than fight it. It would be great if the property owner couldn’t be named in the suit; but I bet that won’t happen.
  22. Sounds like a good idea. I don’t think I would pay for it, but I guess if you thought you might see your friends and family it in it might be entertaining.
  23. With the proper paperwork it appears to be worth about $5-6K. (in good shape) Without the paperwork it’s worthless. Not only is it worthless (other than a parts gun) but mere possession is a felony.
  24. If this doesn’t get a lot of press it might have a chance. If it gets the attention “guns in bars†got; its dead.
  25. Let me get this straight. Common sense does not tell you that if a guy walks into a store to pull a robbery and he sees you open carrying; you will not have all his attention? However… if someone can post a link of internet stories about this happening you will know it is fact? I can’t post a story of someone leaving their car unlocked with their gun laying on the dash; but I’m pretty sure it’s a bad idea. Common sense. Why do you care? You can carry either way in this state. Furthermore… based on what I have seen we could post stories here for a week and it won’t make a difference.
