What would you do in a situation like this?
DaveTN replied to Motasyco's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Beat me to it. I’m not jumping in to help some guys that were assaulting someone. Let the cops worry about it. -
Oops! I should have concealed my gun.

Carrying a gun anywhere in Tennessee is a crime unless you have a Handgun carry permit. -
Question. My wife can't rack the slide on any of my handguns.

There is no such thing as a silky smooth Model 36. A J-frame has a hard trigger pull by design. Now a K-frame on the other hand, can made to be smooth as glass and very light. For a home defense gun I would check out some really smooth K (or even possibly an L) frame. S&W model 66, 19 or possibly even a 686. They will also have less recoil, are far more accurate, and more enjoyable to shoot. -
I have a crossbred lying in the holster drawer. I thought I could get use to Kydex; I can’t. I wish I had tried the leather D.M. Bullard when I could have got one in a reasonable amount of time. But they are at 16-20 weeks now. I don’t keep guns that long.

Sounds like you already have your answer. They are guns not wives. Don’t waste your time on it if you don’t like it, turn it and move on. Unless you got hosed when you bought it you shouldn’t lose much. I see used guns sold for new retail on here all the time. And it’s not like you can’t buy another one later if you decided you really want it back.

The FBI posts all the stats you are looking for. Although they are dependent on how the reporting agency reports the incident. 100% of the home invasions I have responded to or know about involved a firearm. I’m sure there are some where a knife or other weapon was used; that just wasn’t my experience. Some reported “Home invasions†are really burglaries gone badly; the burglars thought the home owners were gone and came face to face with them. That may explain some of the numbers. Home invasion and burglary are not the same crime and the perpetrators are the same type of criminals. But sometimes they may not get reported properly.

Do you think maybe there is a reason so few people do it?

There are plenty of things that people do that are legal, but we still laugh when we see them. If nothing else, OC is entertaining and is always good for a laugh and a spirited discussion.

I’d stop the attack and let the cops worry about it after that. If the woman was okay I might follow the perp and talk the cops in to him. Unless you live in Podunk, TN I bet you will get cops fast and a whole bunch of them if you call in an armed robbery in progress. -
Rifle display cabinet storage?
DaveTN replied to flyanything's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Wipe them down and do maintenance on them every couple of months and they will be fine. Keep them oiled, clean, and keep an eye out for rust. -
Well they should; but they may not. They need evidence to get a warrant for homes. Taking them down in cars is much easier and faster. You don’t seem to be shy; call your Sherriff and ask him. Otherwise we all just be guessing and this will deteriorate real fast.

Not enough information. You have to be licensed to dispense drugs. If they aren’t one call to local LE should end it, if it doesn’t a call to the DEA or TBI will.

Did the instructor not require a holster for the class? What range was she at?

I would have been laughing out loud… I could not have helped it. Was he wearing a cowboy hat?
-
The same thing I would do if it was a man… walk away. What’s she (or he) going to do physically stop me? At that point they go to jail. A more realistic scenario (I think) while you are playing Mall Ninja would be if a group of gang bangers would see your gun and decided to take it. Once 4 or 5 guys move within arm’s reach; there isn’t much you are going to do except lose your gun. Of course I don’t have those problems; I don’t open carry.
-
That may have not had anything to do with the gun.

It was packed today; I couldn’t wait to get out of there. Saw a couple of Walther PPS40’s for $599. Figured I would go pick up one at a local dealer, but they were $100 higher ($699). Guess if I wanted it I should have bought it while I was at the show. You just never know.

They aren’t going to “rule†anything without a statement from the shooter. How long it takes to get that statement could directly impact the resources need at the scene and the outcome of the investigation. Although I can’t picture myself invoking Miranda, I’m not saying don’t do it. But if you exercise your right to speak to lawyer it would be a good idea if you had the ability to speak with a lawyer.

What's the legal way to transport my weapon?
DaveTN replied to SupaRice's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Gun in a case, unloaded magazines, ammo in a box. Separated, one or the other in a locked glove box. But realistically, it really comes down to the cop and why he is looking at you. -
My Mom (80 years old) only uses the computer to play card games and use email. She sent me an email asking about finding a cheap old laptop to play cards on. I assume she wants something portable to carry in the living room or kitchen. I wondered about E-readers. I have been looking at IPAD competitors, but they are more money than she would probably want to spend. But I’m thinking with more of these coming on the market the price will drop. Can you play cards games on these? Are there any cheap ones on the market now? I can probably find her a cheap old laptop for way less than these things cost, but was just curious about what e-readers you guys are using and their capabilities. For myself I need something with internet WiFi.

In a SHTF rifle application .308 is a great round; 9mm is unacceptable. Everything is application driven.

Today’s generation has sold out their kids, grandkids and even their country. Most are price buyers. They don’t care where a product came from or what it does to our economy; as long as it is cheap. Our economy is collapsing and it is on us. We can’t blame China, Japan, the government or anyone else. Look in the mirror.... and take responsibility.
