All 50 states (That’s a WAG), even the ones that don’t acknowledge the Castle Doctrine, cover an occupied vehicle if I am in immediate danger of death or great bodily harm. Castle law is a good thing to have; but it’s not a free pass and it doesn't create a free fire zone. Tennessee has laws addressing that. The problem I see with Tennessee law is that it requires a ruling that you were justified. If you have a good shoot, generally you just aren’t charged. I don’t know that a DA can make a “Ruling†that you were justified or in some cases if he would want to. So you can still end up in civil court. I don’t have access to Tennessee case law and haven’t seen anything posted on this by someone that does. This intruder drug this woman upstairs and then beat her boy friend. No one is going to charge her with anything. Good for her.

My wife finally got bit by the gun bug. She bought her first gun.

That’s a great gun. But I gotta ask what made her pick a single action revolver? -
FN 5.7 pistol. Somebody tell me why its the best hangun in the world.

Take a 9†pie pan with you. Step off 50 yards. Hand him 10 rounds. Report back on how many holes are in the pie pan. If there are 9/10 holes in it you are in the presence of a pretty damn good shot. If he won’t do it or you have to listen to a bunch of stories about why there aren’t 9/10 holes in it he just blowing smoke up your…..Well you get the idea. -
The NSA already has the ability to watch and listen to anything you say. Why would this concern you? EDIT: bkelm18 beat me to it this time.

Depends on the environment If it’s in a sealed container (most aren’t) it could be stored for years. If it’s not sealed it could go bad in months.

That’s a reasonable concern. So call the FD in the area where you live. With everyone having portable generators anymore, I think your question is a reasonable one. I'm sure it could also change from one area to the other.

Cause its physics. If you get them looking at velocity, mass, and surface area, all of a sudden their favorite caliber may not look as appealing. -
HB0355 (McDonald): Parking lot bill filed 2/7/11
DaveTN replied to GKar's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Here’s the scenario… I tell you that I own manufacturing operation. As part of my operation I use highly flammable liquids that are stored in storage tanks on my property. Your vehicle is not a threat to these tanks while it is in the parking lot. However…. These tanks would be vulnerable to gun shots. If one of these tanks were to be comprimised by a gun shot it could expolde and kill everyone at my facility and probably people at other businesses within in the area. I explain to you that I have banned firearms because they are a threat to the safety of everyone in the area. I further explain that I am not willing to put my employee’s lives at risk because you seem to think that because you bought a privilege from the state, I should somehow see it as a right. Does this make sense to you? -
West Nashville Shoot out: Strike N Spare
DaveTN replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
They shot “several†cars; not 22. The bystander was 22. Faced with an active shooter I wouldn’t care how many cars I shot. They really didn’t have much choice but to return fire. Now we will see if the signs help the business. The innocent victim is going to want a payday. It won’t come from the Security Guards or the Thugs; that only leaves the business. -
You think they are teaching them something the cops here don’t know? Or do you think the fact that they may not have back-up most of the time has something to do with it?
-
That is exactly how it should be, and that was how it was years ago. However…. As you can see from some of the posts anytime something goes wrong nowadays the first thought is to sue. The DA doesn’t need to go to court to dismiss charges. And I doubt he needs an order from a Judge to return a person’s property to them. But he may go that route just to cover everyone's azzes. A clerical mistake was made. The Supervisor of the area that made the mistake openly admitted it. The Officer did nothing wrong; he could only go by what he was told. Sounds like the Officer was pretty cool about it the OP wasn’t handcuffed or taken into custody; he was issued a summons and allowed to leave. To the OP I would say this… An arrest is never gone; it is always on file somewhere even when charges are dismissed. Make sure that you have paperwork from whoever dismisses the charges (the DA or the Court) that shows the charges were dropped. Keep that paperwork. This happened to me in Illinois and it didn’t show up until 20 years later when I was buying a gun inTennessee. I had bought many guns over those 20 years in Illinois and Florida. Glad to hear things are working out for you. Also, I don’tknow how things work here, but in Illinois if you needed something from the States Attorney (DA); you got better results going there and talking to them than you did calling.

What You Need to Know About Stopping Power
DaveTN replied to daddyo's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
To bad you can’t test your own ability for shot placement in a real life shooting. I’ve experienced it and I’m sure not throwing caliber out the window. Stop the threat; make your opponent unwilling or unable to fire his weapon at you. That involves… your accuracy and the energy of the round. If you can do that with a .22 or a .380; more power to you. It's not a secret. -
Is it your gun? Michigan has gun registration. So the question as I see it is what Michigan law requires for a gun that is registered in your Dads name (if that is the case). He needs to check with the local PD where he registered the gun. This isn’t a Tennessee law or even a Federal law question (as I see it); it's a Michigan law question.

FN 5.7 pistol. Somebody tell me why its the best hangun in the world.

It’s popular because of the controversy caused when the Brady Campaign said it would shoot through body armor. They wanted it outlawed which caused it to soar in sales. Sound familiar? Some gun owners get excited when they hear a round will shoot through body armor. I’m not sure what the attraction to that is. I guess either they want to shoot through body armor with a small round or they don’t understand that what makes it go through body armor makes it an undesirable SD round. Also driving the controversy is FN claiming that they only make the armor piercing rounds available to military and law enforcement. Of course we know that if they get them; we can get them…. And then we have something “Specialâ€. -
That will probably kill you with the ATF. I can’t have one in Murfreesboro or I would have had one a long time ago. Hope you have better luck.

As kb4ns said, FFL’s and private individuals don’t play by the same rules. FFL holders can’t sell to anyone under 21, but a Tennessee resident can sell to another resident as long as they are over 18. (Although most sellers won’t risk the 18-20 buyers) This is the reason many dealers won’t sell to out of state buyers, although they aren’t prohibited from doing so in some cases. They are required to comply with both the Federal law, and the laws of both states involved in the transaction.

I served aboard the USS Ponce in the early 70’s. This story was from two weeks ago. They have to be in the area. But if the Ponce and Kearsarge are involved; we plan on putting boots on the ground. They are amphibious assault ships carrying Marines. BlogPost - USS Ponce and USS Kearsarge get closer to Libya

My point is that A.) No one is going to detonate a Nuke over us. B.) If they did an EMP would pale in comparison to the other problems we would have. No, you may not be able to surf TGO, but that will not be your biggest concern. You mean benign like Hiroshima and Nagasaki? They were both air bursts. A ground burst is not desirable for a weapon.
-
I don’t think we are talking about an EMP from a nuke, I think we are talking about a generated EMP pulse. (Just as we developed in the 90’s). If any country hits us with an EMP from a Nuke; they would instantly be destroyed. I am going to go out on a limb here and say that not even the North Koreans are that crazy.

You can't be serious.

Greg, I doubt you will ever find a Garand for less than CMP. You can get a field grade for $495 or a service grade for $595. They are the same rifles you see at the gun shows and on the forums for $900. Get them before they are gone.

Take a deep breath and try to relax. Our legal system moves slow, so you don’t need to rush to anything. I wouldn’t worry about getting a lawyer until you find out why your permit was revoked. If it’s a mix up, you get it straightened out and then go to the DA and see if they will dismiss the charge. If you find out there is a valid reason for the revocation you will need an attorney.

Certainly there will be systems that fail from an EMP. Most because the money can’t be justified to protect them. The Navy built, tested, and dismantled an EMP simulator for ships in Chesapeake Bay. More people were concerned with the environmental impact of an EMP generator than any potential threat from an EMP. There are EMP simulators still operating that test aircraft. Our number #1 line of defense is our Ballistic Submarines and the missiles they carry. I would bet they are EMP protected. They (and China) are what keep North Korea from doing anything too stupid. North Korea is just a bully that wants to take your lunch money. I don’t think we should pay them. Certainly we would be in a sling if hit with a large EMP. Because an EMP would more than likely come for a nuclear blast. Of course the blast, the radiation, and the contamination of our water supply and resources will be of a greater immediate concern than whether or not our electronics work. Movies are a great source of entertainment aren’t they? Watch the movie “Fail Safe†from 1964. It scared the crap out of people back then.

That’s not true; it’s 18 for a handgun in Tennessee.
