  1. You can work on getting the state of Tennessee to acknowledge a constitutional right to bear arms. You do not have a right; you have a privilege that you bought from the state. It’s a crime in this state for citizens to carry a loaded gun and until that changes the state can’t force business owners to allow you to carry.
  2. I don’t know how it works here. Why would it take several days to update, and why would there be any difference in County/State records? In Illinois there is only one data base and everyone in the state uses it. It’s called LEADS (Law Enforcement Agencies Data System). At the time your Suspension/Revocation is cleared, you were cleared in the computer. Is that not how it works here?
  3. No, but the guy asking me if I was carrying was a real Police Officer; no way around that. You can carry, you just can’t carry loaded.
  4. Most people can’t hit a 4 1/4 “ diameter target at 100 yards with a handgun in a rest. You want them to do it off hand while the target is flying through the air?
  5. Well obviously it wasn’t aligned with the barrel. So either it wasn’t machined straight to the barrel threads (or vice versa) or it came loose. For those of you that think it was the ammo… why? It appears a round hit the first baffle. I wouldn’t think a round could tumble in the first couple of inches?? Some gun manufacturers list specific rounds that you can’t use; did they do that with this?
  6. The Navy had some Garand’s converted to .308, but if you find one it will cost a bunch. You can buy a new production Garand that is.308. Of course you will spend about three times the cost of a military Garand. I can buy 200 rounds of 30-06 for $106.95 delivered to my house. I wish I could do that with .308.
  7. If you have in any interest in doing it yourself; Check this out.... Trigger Job by Jerry Miculek - GunVideo.com
  8. It’s about money. This is 2011 we can get all the stats, specs, pictures, MSRP, and the lowest price on the net with the click of a mouse button. How is getting a bunch of vendors together to show product going to do any good if they aren’t making a bunch of sales? At gun shows we want sale prices… and they just aren’t there. I have to assume it’s because they don’t need to lower prices. Used guns are listed here on the forum at new prices; some of them seem to be selling. They are having that show in Murfreesboro ever month. The dealers must be selling guns or they wouldn’t keep coming back. I have to go 60 miles North or 60 miles south to decent prices. Maybe it’s a good thing I don’t live in Greenbrier or Winchester; I’d be broke all the time.
  9. Of course they do. Our jobs and our manufacturing base are moving to other countries. Government either needs to get smaller or find new ways to tax those who are left working. They will choose to tax those that need to drive to work. After all you paid over $4 a gallon for gas a few years back; and you are willing to do it again. So.... there is money left on the table. Property taxes and sales taxes will be going up also; they have to.
  10. I understand you being upset, and as I said I think it’s BS if you have to go to court or play games with the DA’s office. Lisa Knight told you your problems were because of someone in her office making a mistake. That’s fine, and it’s understandable that mistake happen. But now whoever is in chargeof Lisa Knight’s office needs to step up and take responsibility for the problems their office has caused. If I were the supervisor of that office I can assure you your problems would be over if I had to walk my azz down to the DA’s office and talk to them myself. I could have done that for you as a Police Officer; I don’t know why the department head of the department that caused the problem can’t. But in all fairness maybe they can and maybe they already have. I would be pizzed too. But I believe in laying the problems right at the feet of those who caused them; and that was not the cops. If you want to blame the cops; so be it, the problem won’t get fixed. The cop gave your friend a break and at the same time was letting him know that a piece of paper won’t cut it. Do you have any idea how many people act shocked when you put them in cuffs and tow their cars for driving on revoked? Almost all of them. Was your friend smart enough to heed his warning and get it straightened out? Anyone in the state that has the authority to give you a letter saying your suspension/revocation is over should also make sure your status is changed in the computer. The Officer gave him (and the letter) the benefit of the doubt; some may not. I don’t blame you. You are lucky you weren’t arrested and taken to jail. What if you had been in another state that puts you in jail and tows your car on a weapons violation? I would assume that if Lisa Knight tells you she fixed the problem; she fixed the problem. However… if you know a cop, ask them to check. If you don’tknow a cop, leave a message for the cop that arrested you to call you. I would have been happy to run a computer check if I had been the one that arrested you and I’m sure most cops would be.
  11. When I started researching safes for protection of guns in the event of a fire I quickly learned that safes are to prevent theft or access; not protect guns from fire. Home owners insurance is for protection from fire.
  12. We just had this conversation at work. I said that before I die I will probably be a minority. (White/Male) And when I am a minority I am going to take every advantage I can take. Every time anyone does anything I don’t like I’ll claim they are only doing that because I am white, I’ll even claim to be gay if I need to. One of the Hispanic women said that when they are the majority they will do any with the minority BS. Policies towards minorities are a disgrace; they are racismin its purest form.
  13. I doubt you will find much reliable information on the topic; you will have to generate your own. You can look through state crime data and the FBI crime stats. Then you do like everyone else does; pick and choose your stats and put your own spin on the numbers. Do you know prior to the debate which way you will be arguing?
  14. It probably had to go the other direction to go through the central smashing station. Don’t worry though; they don’t charge extra for that.
  15. I did read it…. Did you? Even though it was a mistake; the HCP was revoked. Are you saying that you think a LEO is required to allow a person to remain in possession of a revoked permit? A revocation is "at the direction of the Department of Safety" My opinion would be that not only was he authorized to seize it; he was required to seize it. From the AG opinion you posted….
  16. Maybe you can fill us in on how the permit was taken illegally. The permit was revoked by the DOS. Are you saying that a cop can’t seize a revoked permit that should have already been surrendered? How did an HC Permit gain some kind of “hands off†status when it is being used illegally? Or are you talking about the revocation by the DOS, who already admitted it was a clerical mistake?
  17. I don’t know him but I have seen this name come up in Garand discussions. Some people have been pretty happy with rifles he built. I thought I heard he was who does the Garand work for Champions Choice in La Vergne. It might be worth checking out. Match Service Works Ronnie Morris 422 Maple Street, Madison TN 37115. 615-868-4567
  18. Why? A DA in this state doesn’t have the authority to return evidence that has been mistakenly seized? I understand that my experience is from a different state, but it is absurd to think that between the DA and the Police they do not have the authority to make this right without getting the court system and a Judge involved.
  19. It also has the ability to call when help when you are bleeding to death and can’t. But yea, don’t get it if you fear that some government agency has an interest in tracking you or disabling your vehicle.
  20. The Tennessee Constitution allows the legislature to do whatever they want when it comes to carrying guns. What makes you think this legislation would be a problem or that we need to turn this into trying to change the state constitution?
  21. Don’t bog it down with that. If this bill were to pass; it’s as close as you will ever get to “Constitutional Carry”. Besides that, the SCOTUS has addressed that issue. You have a right to “keep” arms, the state will decide if you can “Bear” them. Take this good piece of news and turn it into a 2nd amendment or a state Constitution debate and we are dead in the water. After it’s done you put whatever name gives you a warm fuzzy feeling on it.
  22. I don’t know how it works here, but where I was there are no charges until the DA files them. So if you can talk to them they should be able to deal with it without you going to court. I wouldn’t be afraid to call DOS back and ask them for help; since it’s their fault you have to deal with all this. If someone there knows someone in the DA’s office…. Well its how things get done sometimes. Accidents happen. But now they are all aware it was a clerical error by the DOS. You shouldn’t have to do anything else. The state made the mistake and they should step up and fix it without putting you out anymore than they already have.
  23. I doubt that; Tennessee doesn’t make that decision. For most states to agree to reciprocity they will require that you attend some kind of training class and qualification. That’s the reason the HCP would need to stay in place.
  24. THIS IS BIG!! This should be a sticky and every person on this board should write (real letters in envelops) to their Senators and Congressmen showing support for this. I don’t really like the “injuring fellow man†BS. That’s already covered by other laws and could be used against us. This is as close as you can get to the right to keep and bear arms without actually acknowledging it as a 2nd Amendment, and state Constitutional right.
