Do you feel that business should have the right to Opt-Out?
DaveTN replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Maybe I missed something. Are there options for something besides the $500 fine? In all the HCP holders in Tennessee we have yet to find a single confirmable case of anyone being cited under this statute. Certainly if you make a decision to carry past signs, you are risking getting cited. But are you saying you think this would result in a revocation of your license and a criminal record? -
That’s already been posted here in a thread that’s locked.

The State of Illinois needs to step in on the Chicago gun situation. The city government will never be able to do it; the voters that elect city officials don’t want guns in the city. That is not the situation in the rest of the state. The state government could possibly get legislation passed that would stop the Chicago shenanigans; but it would be a fight.
-
Would you find it less troubling if the state of Tennessee legislated a more specific description of what a handgun is? One that rule out the AK/AR pistols or PLR-16? What if they just outlawed open carry because of his actions? The state is in total control of how, what, where, and when you can carry. Would you feel better if the state passed laws so that you would be clear? Are you afraid that you may do something like strapping a cut down rifle across your chest and carrying it openly in a public park without knowing you are violating a law? The state department of safety and the courts acted on this reckless act without passing any new legislation. That’s a win to me.

Call it rights all day long; you are just showing that you are either uninformed or the laws of the land mean nothing to you. “Just because†is not a very convincing argument. You have a right to own arms. Where and when you can bear arms is controlled by the state; it’s called “States Rights†and we fought the bloodiest war or nation has ever been in over it almost 75 years after the Constitution was written. Only the Tennessee legislature can allow you the “Right†to carry. We hear all the time about how “most†states allow carry. That’s ridiculous and an argument made by those that are clueless about the world around them. Four states recognize carrying as a right. I believe that Tennessee should be one of them; but we are not. Until that happens carrying a loaded gun in the state of Tennessee is a crime and an HCP is a privilege for a special group of us that can afford it. We absolutely do not have anything close to a Constitutional Right to carry in Tennessee and pretending that we do will only result in it taking longer to make it happen. Nonsense. If you are talking about lost sales by banning those that are carrying, I think you have a very inflated idea of what’s going on. Of course there is no way of knowing that. Cops go where they are called and that will never change. I can assure you that you don’t want a dispatcher that is not there making decisions about whether or not someone with a gun is a threat. As I said before it’s a crime to carry a gun in the state of Tennessee and until those changes (and even after, if it does) people will call the Police when they see guns carried openly. I have been sent to calls of a suspicious person and arrested residential burglars on calls where the person was doing nothing more than walking down the street, but looked suspicious to someone. Anyone openly carrying a gun has to know that they may be stopped. I don’t think any of that is right. If you unload a weapon and make it legal for transportation (as in someone that didn’t buy a HCP); I think you can transport it anywhere. The state is making a killing off gas taxes; they don’t care if it costs you more money. No it doesn’t. It gives you a legal presumption that you were in fear of death or great bodily harm. There is nothing that prevents the Prosecutor from charging you and tearing that presumption down. You have the right to use deadly force when in your vehicle. Give us an example of when and how you think you would have a problem. There are no free fire zones anywhere. Private business will always have the option (I hope). The only way around that is to give them totally immunity from a lawsuit and ask them to take down their signs. I don’t support the government strong arming private business. Although they did it with the smoking ban and most people were okay with that. We have to live by the decisions of the highest courts in the land. Who would have thought that the United States Supreme Court would put their stamp of approval on Eminent Domain? I didn’t, but not only did they say local government stealing peoples land is okay, but they said it should be handled at a local level. -
As a Cop you are called to the scene because a guy has an AK47 strapped across his chest. This is in a park where families are taking their children. What are you going to do, stand around and say there is nothing you can do? As the court has now pointed out, and the Judge when they pulled his permit; you would be wrong. Embody did this to test his interpretation on the law. His test has now shown that his interpretation of the law was wrong and he no longer has a permit because of it. If you are talking about “Rights†under the Tennessee State or United States Constitution you had better be talking about someone that is standing on their own property. There isn’t a single person on this forum that can stand up and say this guy isn’t a nut job, or that this is something any intelligent person would have pulled. Our carry license system would be a failure if we didn’t have a way to take the carry privilege away from nut jobs when their own actions bring them to the attention of the Department of Safety. I commend these Judges for their decisions. And as an HCP holder I can assure the public that the majority of legally armed citizens in no way shape or form support the incredibly stupid and thoughtless acts of this one individual.

What is your budget for the TV? What size do you want? What size is the room? What are the inputs/outputs of your other devices? Do you want to get locked in to trying to be compatible with old technology? Will you need a new DIRECTV box…? DVD… DVR…?? These are questions you need to know the answers to. You also don’t want to pick Plasma/LED/LCD based on what a bunch of guys on a gun forum say. You need to go look at them. My 2 cents… The standard lifespan in hours of a flat panel isn’t even an issue anymore. The technology will have changed before your screen dies. Why do you care if it’s a Plasma, LCD or LED??? I don’t care at all, but so far all the HD TV’s I have picked (five) have been plasma. It looked best to me and that’s all that mattered. Don’t let them screw you on the cables. Good HDMI cables don’t cost $100. Panasonic and Samsung are battling it out for the #1 spot in the Plasma market. I choose Panasonic, but you probably can’t go wrong with either.

Sorry, but once you have been a member here and then move to another state you are banned. New forum rule… sorry. Here’s a nice place though… Florida Guns Forum

If it meets all your audio needs, all you need the TV for is a display. You need HD out of your Direct Box; you won’t be happy watching standard TV on an HD set.
-
No, the VCR is gone and the DVD probably is (even the DIRECTV box), depending on what type connections you have.
-
I don’t think you can buy a TV that’s not HD anymore. Go to BestBuy and check things out. You will need a HD receiver from DIRECTV. Check out DVR; it will change how you watch TV. Switching from analog to digital is not cheap, and it’s usually not as simple as buying a new TV.

When making a video review you look like a moron if you make a big deal out of safety checking your weapon. It’s a video…. I don’t care. That is all…

Carrying multiple state conceal permits

You will need to research every state you intend on carrying in; it’s a big responsibility. -
Ohio police threaten to execute permit holder video

I’m surprised the clown posted it; the cop made him look like the loser he is. Who walks around with an unloaded gun? And then refusing to give his name. Here’s what dumb azzes like that guy cause… Bill Banning Open Carry of Firearms Passes California State Assembly - Sierra Madre, CA Patch -
Ohio police threaten to execute permit holder video

I guess you could call in a license or punch it into a computer before you stopped a car. But I usually never ran a check (on a stop for traffic) until after I had the car stopped. By then the initial contact has been made. This is one of those times in your life that you will be held responsible for the decisions you make. If the cop sees a gun that you haven’t told him about and you find yourself face down on hot asphalt; you can whine and cry all you want afterwards; but it won’t change anything. I’m not condoning what this cop did. He went too far. He has a serious problem because he has caused a problem for his Chief. Will he be fired? Doubtful, but that depends on his record; people make mistakes.... even cops. -

DaveTN replied to aquaman67's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
That is correct. And there is no law that stops a LEO from treating you as a deadly threat if he sees a gun you have not told him about. Common sense works both ways. -
That seems to be the most important factor right there, and it won’t be on your spread sheet. Tell us about the size groups and at what distance. What was the 9mm you are comparing?

Go with stainless. It’s the easiest finish to clean, minor damage/scratches are easily repaired, and you can make it look like chrome if you like.

Is ‘Project Gunwalker’ about to bust wide open?
DaveTN replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The DEA and drug task forces all over the country let drugs pass to see where they are going. These drugs kill people or cause deaths through the crimes committed by the users to get them. I’m not sure I have a problem with allowing these guns to pass to see where they end up. The problem here is that this whole plan, as far as I can tell, was conceived to make it appear that Obama and Clinton had a clue of what they were talking about…. They didn’t. To say that Federal Agents caused Agent Terry’s death, or the death of others in Mexico; you would need to believe that if it wasn’t for this plan the criminals would not have had guns in their hands. Blaming the U.S. for any criminal actions by the drug cartels is ridiculous. This is not a real investigation. If it was it would have been over by now. This is Senators and Congressmen trying to make a name for themselves. Making a lot of noise about this is playing right into the hands of those that want more gun legislation. Subpoena the people you want to talk to, let them say what they have to say, and do whatever you are going to do, and be done with it. -
becoming comfortable with one chambered
DaveTN replied to 93civEJ1's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Its called caution, you never get over it. Those that do are the ones that shoot themselves or someone else. The gun forums are full of their stories. Can a weapon fire without you intentionally pulling the trigger? Sure it can, only someone not in touch would reality would believe otherwise. For example if you are carrying with a round in the chamber the weapon should be secured to you, in a holster, with the trigger covered; not in a “compartmentâ€. Take a bunch of ammo to the range and go through the mechanics of loading and unloading your weapon and firing it. (Not just basting off a bunch of magazines). Get to know it. Become intimate with just how much force it takes for it to fire. I’ve been carrying guns for over 30 years and never had a ND. But I don’t mess with or handle loaded guns except to bring them in and out of service. I won’t drop the slide on any gun to chamber a round unless it is pointed somewhere it wouldn’t do any damage if it discharged. I have been involved with Glocks since they first came on the scene it the 80’s. Do I think they have discharged without pulling the trigger? Yes. Can I prove it or seen it happen myself? No. -
Bring your popcorn.... TR goodness in this thread.
DaveTN replied to BimmerFreak's topic in Training Discussions
This has been how many years ago now? This has been argued over and over again. You watched the video, you read the reports; what do care what someone else’s opinion is? You would have to be one messed up individual to have never been in combat or a shooting and start talking armchair smack about what someone else should have done. It is my understanding from years ago that the problem was that his written reports did not represent what happened and that he blamed other people. 300 people a week? That’s amazing. (if its true). He could buy and sell most trainers on here; so I would guess he is laughing at all this. 300 a week??? -
