  1. Everyone involved is going to try to make a buck. I can’t help think that making money off the death of a child will come back on them. O.J’s still in jail isn’t he?
  2. I would have mixed feelings, on one hand the kid is pretty arrogant to burn one on the street in the open; too bad there wasn’t an unmarked rolling through. On the other hand it could cause your son problems.

    Remington 700

I had Mike at the Saddle Shop in Arrington (I see thats where you are) get my 700 VLS; saved me a bunch of money. Can’t go wrong with a Leupold scope; plus its American Made.
  4. Another black eye for us. My condolences go out to the families of those who died.
  5. No, I can personally guarantee you its more fun to pull them over and ticket them for impeding traffic and listen to their speech about how they have the right to drive in any lane they like, while I was writing the ticket. I would take a slower mover in the left lane over a speeder any day. And If I had ever seen one of those rolling road blocks the semi’s pull; I would have loaded both drivers down with so many tickets they wouldn’t have been able to drive.
  6. What’s this “magazine†you speak of?
  7. You need to have your tinfoil hat screwed on pretty tight to believe any of that. “Some say†How’s that whole “We invaded Iraq for their oil†thing worked for us at the pumps? We should take Iraqi oil to pay for the war and we haven’t. She can’t be talking about black Americans can she?
  8. You don’t have time to make that call. When given advance warning you use it. There have been so many school shootings that how Police react has changed. It’s no longer wait on back-up, secure the area, and try to make contact with the shooter. It’s been changed to; first Officers on the scene engage the shooter and kill him. They probably use the words “neutralize the threat†but you get the idea. Police Officers are putting their lives at risk because they know seconds count. They can’t be asked to do that if you want to stand around and wait for him to become active. Open carry has consequences; if people don’t want to deal with them then they shouldn’t play stupid games. The reaction was the right one. If you think that means the law needs to be changed you may get your wish if we have many more HCP holders like this guy. Armchair quarterbacking is what we do.
  9. I don’t know of anyone saying that. Grabing the bad guys is just a perk of traffic enfocement. Flashing your lights isn’t a crime (in this state), being stupid in front of a cop is. I can assure you common sense is not applied in court; the law is. And the law is just that, the law; do not confuse it with justice. The question of roadblocks has been answered many times by many courts. I feel sorry for the younger people that don't know the DUI laws or how they can impact their future. I take every opportunity to keep them informed, even though some don’t think it’s fair. I don’t understand what you mean by “second class citizen through felony status”. Explain please. I’d settle that real quick if he had a gun. I’d ask him to blow. If he refused I’d take him on DUI and weapons charges. You can’t.
  10. I have said that’s not what I’m saying. If that is what you want to believe… so be it. Absolutely it’s arbitrary. It’s based on the personal whim of the Officer setting the speed; he also has discretion once he stops you on whether to ticket you or give you a warning. Our department “unwritten policy†was 12 over when running radar; but we had Officers that set theirs at 10 and I have even taken out cars at 10 if they were weaving and I didn’t think it was safe to follow them any farther. Would you like to see discretion taken away? I saw it taken away on family fights and DUI. We went from letting the Officers make the decision on a family fight to a mandatory arrest if someone claimed another family member threatened them or committed a battery on them. DUI’s went from giving the Officer the discretion of determining if you were intoxicated and deciding whether to let you or someone with you drive away to requiring anyone that showed any indication of drinking to submit to a breath test or go to jail for DUI. That’s what happens when discretion is taken away. It’s already been settled in Tennessee. But you need to do whatever you are ready to take responsibility for.
  11. Neither. I’m saying that drunk or reckless drivers will kill you and your family just as dead as an armed robber or a home invader, and the chances of you being killed by a bad driver are much higher. I put a drunk driver in the same “Criminal†class as an armed robber. Both are deadly and both knowingly made a choice to put the lives of those around them in danger. When working traffic and setting my radar at 20 over, rarely did I make it through the night without arresting a drunk or someone on a warrant. When I finally had the seniority to get out of traffic and have my own district; it was a lot tougher to get felony arrests.
  12. That’s okay, different opinions is what it’s all about. Your opinion and your statistics on traffic stops and criminal arrests are based on what? Your Police Chief or Sherriff is responsible for assigning Officers based on the needs of your community. Is there a group in your community that kills and injures more people than traffic offenders? If so, you need to present that information to your Chief or Sherriff. Unfortunately most Police work is reactive; a crime has been committed and the Police react (Burglary, Armed Robbery). Some Officers are Proactive and get the bad guys before they kill you or your family (DUI and traffic, which also can lead to armed robbers and burglars). I am absolutely sure of this because I have experienced it myself. I know…. You said that before. Why are you in mixed company? And why should we care who you are? I thank your son for his service. I know that must be very hard on you.
  13. Read the 4th amendment. It protects you from unreasonable searches. You are not required to comply with the search; you can leave. Probable cause pertains to searches without your consent or is required to support a warrant; has nothing to do with you voluntarily submitting to a search. Most of these searches prior to entry are looking for liquor or cameras. It’s reasonable to look in a 12X12X12 bag or container.
  14. You have got to be kidding me. You are just trying to start now. We are having a serious discussion.
  15. That pertains to (12); I was just quoting that because they are pointing out that lying on this application is perjury. (No matter what question you lie about.) (10) Deals with substance abuse and doesn’t appear to care whether it was voluntary or not. The way I read it if you go to alcohol abuse treatment you have to wait 10 years whether it was voluntary or not. Maybe you should call and ask (Or maybe someone here already has). But you would need to answer that question truthfully.
  16. Mike, Teachers and school administrators don’t have the luxury of conducting an investigation. They prepare for the worst case scenario. The best case scenario is that it’s an HCP holder; the worst case scenario is that it’s a crazy person getting ready to become an active shooter in a school. What decision would you make in those couple of minutes you have to decide? Would you prepare for the worst or would you worry about putting the pro-gun community’s panties in a bunch? We carry deadly weapons because we prepare for the worst. Why would it be considered stupid for someone else to do the same? Having a gunman walking towards a school and failing to act would be stupid.
  17. They changed the language about being crazy; they didn’t change it about being a drunk. It’s addressed on the first page of the website. Handgun Carry Permits It addresses this…. It does not appear to address this… As far as whether they know or not…. When I was a cop almost any plea agreement involved substance abuse counseling. Has that changed?
  18. How did we get from the original topic to “I’m too stupid to handle my financial priorities and my wife has to keep me in check.†?
  19. Would a reasonable person believe you are in immediate danger of death or great bodily harm? Sounds like a home invasion to me. Personally I would engage the perp and see what it does. Castle Doctrine is not always required to shoot someone that is trying to hurt you. If you can shoot through a door and kill an innocent kid; I think you will probably be okay killing a home invader.
  20. All the laws and sentences are in place. Deals are made and early releases are done because the jails and prisons are filled beyond legal maximum limits. Especially with non-violent offenders like shoplifters. I always think about the comedian that said “let’s take a state and turn it into a prison. And let’s use one of those square states like Wyoming; so it would be easy to fence.â€
  21. There were probably people they that had guns. If you have an HCP you can carry while picking up or dropping off your kids. Just because they aren’t openly displayed doesn’t mean they aren’t there. I drive right through two school zones every day…. Armed.
  22. So you think two patrol vehicles from different departments decided to pull into the median and turn their lights on….. Just to make sure traffic wasn’t speeding? I think the obvious is more likely.
  23. It’s a crime to carry a gun loaded or with ammunition readily accessible in Tennessee. So a gun in a rack is PC for a stop (That in and of itself means I’m not doing it). An HCP is a valid defense to firearms violations. I could have it in a rack in my back window loaded, as long as a round wasn’t chambered. In the country that might be fine, in the city it would be a prime target for a smash and grab. I’ve also have been in a firearms violation battle in court; I don’t ever want to do that again. I got it dismissed, but it costs me thousands $$, and I show a firearms charge on my record that was dismissed.
  24. 2nd offense retail theft in Illinois is a felony. If they can prove intent (Clothes made for shoplifting, partner rolls, etc.) some Sates Attorneys will charge burglary. Does it never become a felony in Tennessee? I can see why these shoplifters do it, when so many stores are implementing policies of not even stopping people.
  25. Let’s say I have a like new pistol that I bought new and have $750 in. I want to trade it for a rifle that would cost 750 new. If I can find someone that has the rifle I want that is like new, we don’t have to worry about price difference; put whatever prices you want on them, it doesn’t matter if we trade. Now let’s say you want to buy my pistol, but because it’s used you want to pay $600 cash. If I accept that I need to find the rifle I want for $600 or spend $750 for new. I may not be able to find it used for $600. If you emailed me a cash offer of somewhere around $700, you would own it. But of course you aren’t going to do that if you can buy it new for $750. People holding out for a trade are usually not motivated sellers. I don’t know why anyone would be insulted unless you made the offer in an open forum. I just don’t respond; but I don’t hold it against anyone doing it in an email or PM.
