  1. I would take a look at the Remington 700 Heavy barrel Varmint that Dicks runs on sale for $449. It’s got a cheap scope and stock on it, but I think you can throw those away and still have a pretty good deal. I have a VLS 700 in .308 and was looking for a used heavy barrel .223 just for cheap center fire trigger time. I can’t find used for less than that deal at Dicks on new. Whatever you buy you are going to need a high quality scope for long range shooting. Is that included in the $700 figure? You aren’t going to shoot a lever action at 600-800 yards. If you think that I would stick with Beer & Lap Dances.
  2. I would treat you with respect, explain why I was running the numbers, and give you the information on who to contact to make a citizens complaint against me. If you didn’t like my explanation or think it was appropriate; you wouldn’t like the one you would get from them either. Sorry, you feel like a criminal when your gun is getting checked. Do you feel that way when they run your DL and check for warrants?
  3. Facts won’t matter. Estep himself could get on here and say it didn’t happen, and someone would say he was either paid off or coerced. If its not the cops that are crooked, it will be the DA, or the witnesses, or.... on and on. I don’t think I have ever accused a public official of being corrupt unless I have had reason to. Otherwise they get the benefit of the doubt.
  4. Exactly. And we rarely (never) get to hear that on this forum or in the newspaper.
  5. Just like a Judge we would have to look at each individual case and hear what the Officer had to say. We don’t usually get to do that on this forum; we get one side of the story. It’s fun to guess what may have been going on when you have one side that thinks cops can’t legally do this/that and one side that knows they can. But it’s just wild azz guessing for entertainment. Look at the pages and pages of all the guessing we did on the Knoxville cops incident; none of us had a clue of what happened, but it was entertaining to guess at all the possibilities. I ran all high theft items that I got access to through the computer, just like I ran checks for DL & warrants; I arrested a lot of suspended or revoked drivers and people wanted on warrants that way. If you have specific questions about what can or can’t be searched on a vehicle search; we have those discussions here all the time and would be happy to discuss your specific questions. Your specific complaint right now seems to be that you don’t think it’s legal for a cop to disarm you and run a weapons check. It’s a crime for a citizen to carry a gun in this state, so I have to guess that you think because you have an HCP the cops shouldn’t be checking your gun? You agreed to several things when you paid to become part of our special little group. Surrendering your weapon when the Officer asks was part of that. All I can say is that if you think your rights have been violated; you have recourse. And I don’t say that to be a smartazz; most Departments take Citizens complaints very seriously. But people get frustrated because those are only for complaints that the Officer acted inappropriately, violated department policy, or violated the law. They aren’t to decide if the Officer had probable cause to search your car; only a Judge can decide that (or a DA if he’s tossing your case out because of it).

    M&P9 vs 1911

So you are going to trade one of the top rated Tupperware duty pistols for one of the low rated 1911’s? Is this 1911 you are looking at as accurate as the 1911 (your husbands) you made this compassion with? Because some men think because they can’t handle a .45; women can’t. They can’t handle the recoil or get back on target as fast they can with a smaller round. They figure if they can’t do it, being men and all… well you know the rest. Well sure, but personal ability and the application for the gun should be considered.
  7. The owners make the argument that their employees are safer without guns on the property. It’s a valid argument the state has made it for the streets. If all citizens could have a gun in their car to and from work; you would have a valid complaint. But they can’t; it’s a crime in this state. Therefore the state shouldn’t be able to cram this down the throat of business owners for something they won’t recognize as a right. That would be the actions of a thug government.
  8. I think it comes from the Federal Americans with Disabilities Act, or maybe OSHA. My first clue would be from who it was that told you to put it up.
  9. Sure we would have to comply; “all those things†are required to have a business open to the public. Maybe I’m slow but I’m not “starting to see where you are coming from†or how you got from “Rights†to this. You claim a 2nd amendment right to carry a gun into a business, but that’s just non-sense. I’m not saying you shouldn’t have that right, or that you might not be able to force that on a business if a citizen had a right to carry, but you are in Tennessee and they don’t recognize “Carry Rights†in this state; only “Carry Privilegesâ€.
  10. How do you know he isn’t already here? Maybe you have already heard his opinions, but didn’t give them the credibility that being printed in the newspaper seems to give them.
  11. The Supreme Court has said that unless a business allows the inspection; OSHA needs a warrant. So yes, you can tell the OSHA inspector he can’t come in. Its State and Federal laws that tell a business what they can and can’t do. Handgun carry is a privilege sold to a select few by the state; for the rest of the citizens it’s a crime. I’m not aware of any language in the law that says a business owner can’t ban guns on his property.
  12. I’ve been to most of the ones in this area Murfreesboro, Smyrna, Nashville, Franklin, and the best shows I have been to are the RK shows at Murfreesboro. Point me to a better one in the area. They all suck for buying guns though. Prices are almost always higher than the local dealers and are always higher than what I can order on-line for. You can get some good deals on accessories though. The best gun shows for buying guns is Buds and CDNN. I’d like to go to that big one in Tulsa (?), but wouldn’t want to mess with shipping and FFL's. Wish we had something like that in Tennessee.
  13. No, besides that the Prosecutor runs the Grand Jury.
  14. Yes. There are some “special groups†that are protected by special laws, but you didn’t hit on any of them and that has nothing to do with rights anyway. List specific rights you think you have that are being violated.
  15. I did. Especially if the person was a known criminal or if I had knowledge of an item that had been reported stolen that was now in plain view to me. (I’m talking high theft items; they didn’t have laptops or iPods when I was a cop.)
  16. No, there is no law against running serial numbers. It would be a “search†question of how did it get from your car into the Officers hands. I assume the case was in plain view. Did he ask you if he could see it? Did he see the case and ask if there was a gun in it? Did you hand him an HCP and he ask if you have any guns in the car? Guns are a high theft item. If it’s in plain view and he checked it, or a laptop, or an iPad, the search could be contested by your attorney and a Judge would rule based on that specific incident and whether or not the Officer could justify his actions. (if you were arrested) I always ran the serial numbers of guns…. Period, no matter who had them. Good people end up with stolen guns without knowing it. It’s a good way to back track and take a burglar off the street.
  17. Appears to me it did. The DA did “several interviews†and determined that the Officers “Acted on a reasonable basis to pull their guns†and “No criminal charges were justifiedâ€. Does it bother you that a gun was pulled and no one was arrested, or that cops were accused of something and they didn’t have a public trial simply because they were cops?
  18. What kind of bullhorn?
  19. Nothing. They don’t need to confiscate it to check for stolen. The same rules apply as always. Is it in plain view? Do I have a reason to think it may be stolen? Sure, I just handled a burglary investigation yesterday (or whenever) where a laptop was stolen. If you truly think your Constitutional rights were violated get an attorney or go file a citizen’s complaint against the cop. Your gun was in plain view and it’s a crime to carry a loaded gun in this state. The Cops are free to check it and if he wants to run the serial number; so be it. I’m sorry you think that was an intentional violation of your rights, but it’s just good Police work; it’s how burglars get caught.
  20. You do not have freedom of speech, right to assembly, protection against search and seizure, right to an attorney or protection from self-incrimination, right to trial, or right to carry a gun. So what rights are you talking about?
  21. You mean the Rand Paul incident in Nashville?
  22. And every reputable economist says the American economy can’t recover until our manufacturing base recovers. Remove all manufacturing and what do you have left? Healthcare workers, government workers, cops, and lawyers; all of which are overhead for those paying the bills. Who is going to pay the bills that manufacturing was paying…… private property owners in the form of increased property taxes. That is until they go broke. This ain’t rocket science.
  23. You aren’t wrong. But the government can’t fix this; our economy rests squarely on the shoulders of the American people. If they have jobs; they just don’t care. By the time their jobs are gone, it’s too late. We can turn our economy around anytime we choose. But as you will see here, as long as it’s cheap many people don’t care where it comes from or whose pockets their money is going in. Most products can’t compete on price. EPA, OSHA, Health care, unemployment insurance, etc. Our foreign competitors don’t have those costs. Some products are competing on price. Look at Smith & Wesson taking back the LEO market from the foreigners with the M&P. Better product, made here, same money. Each and every one of us should be supporting these kinds of companies. It’s about money. And too many Americans will turn their back on their country for a dollar and they give a speech about why they did it.
