Some dealers put TN tax on the fee. There is no “Tax Freeâ€, the seller just doesn’t collect it; you are supposed to pay the tax to the state.

George Zimmerman's Donations Spike on His Return to Jail
DaveTN replied to QuietDan's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
My guess is (and it’s just my WAG), Zimmerman will be convicted or have a hung jury. If he has a hung jury; he is still open to a wrongful death civil suit. If the state doesn’t convict him; I believe the Feds will step-in and Mr. Zimmerman will experience double jeopardy just as the cops did in the Rodney King case. I don’t see him having any money left after the legal system and his attorneys get done with him. Let him have the money; that’s what people are donating it for. If the courts make that money unavailable to him and he is convicted, I would guess that he would have grounds for an appeal, saying he couldn’t afford the best representation. If he’s sued civilly he’s too high profile to be able to hide the money from the victim’s family…. Again, if there is anything left. I have no idea what the law is in Florida pertaining to protection from a civil suit. -
George Zimmerman's Donations Spike on His Return to Jail

What his attorneys don’t get (Which will be most of it) the victims family will get in the resulting civil suit. -
Yet the bank robber, with his mask, and money wrappers from the bank was taken into custody. Good tip, fast follow-up, suspect in custody. He had to have been turned in by an accomplice or someone that followed him from the bank if the cops didn’t even have a description. If he had got away because they failed to act on that tip and he killed someone later the Police would have been blamed for that also; at least this way they got an armed fugitive off the street. I question how they could have had no description, or why they handcuffed everyone, but I wasn’t there. I’m sure more will come out later. I doubt anyone has to worry about their job over this.
-
I want the “rest of the storyâ€. To move fast enough to shut down an intersection, capture 19 cars, and handcuff everyone in those 19 cars is pretty amazing. That took a lot of cops. What’s even more amazing is that the tip was good and they caught the bank robber. Were they in that area after the bank robbery? And how can you go looking for a bank robber and have absolutely no description at all? PC is a wide road; but it ain’t that wide.

Sgt. Joel Morgan and anyone else that has served should be proud of the service they have given their country. But you can’t fix ignorance and hate. This woman has the right to refuse to rent to whoever she pleases as long as they are not a protected group. We all served to protect rights; even the ones we don’t believe in. Unfortunately we are not a protected group. When our troops came home from Vietnam they were spit on in airports and on the street. Sgt. Morgan, if I were you I would hold my head high and drop this lawsuit. This woman doesn’t deserve your time or energy; she is a moron. Don’t let her be a martyr. I’m sure since this story was posted you have had many offers of a place to rent from decent Americans who appreciate what you did. And although people like this woman would never serve, they are the type to scream the loudest when they think someone has violated one of the rights you served to protect. Thank you for your service.

16 Open Carriers vs Several Police Officers!
DaveTN replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
They ID because it’s how they catch a lot of criminals. In this state if you are carrying a gun or driving a car; it’s a moot point. It’s something good cops do and it won’t change. You need to ride along with a cop a few times and see just how many arrests come from simply running checks on so called “routine†calls or running plates of vehicles that catch your eye for one reason or another. -
Know what you mean. I joined the service during Vietnam; but I couldn’t legally buy a beer in the states. But enjoy it because there will come a time when you would gladly give up the right to buy a gun, or a beer, to be back there.

I want to switch my Remington VLS 308 over to a Picatinny rail. I’m using a Leupold VX-III 6.5-20X40 LR. I wonder if I need the 20 MOA base? The longest I’ve shot it so far is 300 yards, but I will get the opportunity to shoot 1K. If I use the 20 will I still be able to dial in 100 yards?
-
If you do, can you tell me if this is close to the screw spacing that is on your Picatinny base? With the first hole at the barrel end of the receiver being 0, The 2nd hole is .861 The 3rd is 3.890 The 4th is 4.500 Thanks

Needs to go through an FFL and you could still get ripped. Is it something that you can’t trade here in a face to face trade?

I can assure you that the information given Police Officers by dispatch sometimes makes the situation sound worse than it is, and sometimes it is much worse than what you have been told. An eyewitness described the deceased pulling his gun and pointing it at the Officer. When asked what she thought he was going to do she replied “Shootâ€. That’s when the Officers fired. I have been on Morphine and Hydrocodone (although not both at the same time) and I didn’t carry because I knew not only was my judgment impaired, but my reaction time would have been that of a slug. His Morphine and Xanax use was at near fatal levels. I’m sure he was confused but I doubt it was because he had more than one cop giving him orders. Read what was testified to in court… http://www.lasvegass...escription-dru/ What happened was a tragedy, but it certainly wasn’t an accident; he had no business strapping on a gun. He made a mistake and he paid for it with his life.

Printer technology…or why does my printer use so much ink?
DaveTN replied to DaveTN's topic in General Chat
What’s this pen and paper you speak of? -
It seems every time I turn around my printer is flashing “!!!!!†and I’m spending fifty bucks on printer cartridges. Anything new on the techology horizon to get this cost down?

Oh, I didn’t mean to imply you were, I apologize if you took it that way. I just have never seen a shooting thread take 180 turn in 10 posts. It goes from a story that looks like it was written by the dead guys family attorney, to the story you have that offers quotes from eyewitnesses and Doctors court testimony. Just goes to show we somtimes jump in too fast.

We had a guy with an HCP handling his gun in the shop. It went off, hit a machine, ricocheted off and shot a hole through the roof. Luckily no one got shot. Make whatever claims you like about who was responsible, but the fact remains that the guy that did the shooting had nothing and the owner is the “deep pocketsâ€. Whether or not he would have been held liable is anyone’s guess, but he would have had lawyer bills if someone would have been shot. Until this state holds the HCP holder totally liable and the property owner can’t be sued when they weren’t involved, the property holder has absolute rights; and not even the state can legislate that. They can try, but it won’t hold up in court. Your only legal choice is that if you don’t like the rules; you should find somewhere else to work that will let you carry.
-
I think that the best information will come from talking with Officers of the agency that will respond to the call. I also think you should not have to worry about your neighbors shooting if they are so close they present a danger. Of course it should be common curiosity, but sometimes people don’t have that and the law has to be called. I would try to talk to my neighbors first, if that doesn’t work; call the law.

Looking for an OWB Leather holster Recommendation
DaveTN replied to alwaysonjohn's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I like leather and thumb breaks. I have a Don Hume OWB for my M&P’s that is open on the end so I can carry either my full size or compact. I also have a D.M. Bullard for the compact. I’m looking for something for my Kahr MK40 and think I might try the Bianchi Black Widow. -
Blued revolvers are beautiful. Smith & Wesson use to put on a deep rich blue that was really nice. But carrying them on duty would mess up the finish. Refinishing a blued revolver is not cheap. Stainless is a work horse. Unless you do some serious damage; it can always be made to look new again without spending anything on it.

I hope that justice is served for the atrocity that has been committed. But I don’t see how holding Zimmerman in jail is the right thing to do. There have been creditable and public threats made on his life by a group that both the state and the Justice Department is refusing to act on. To throw him in jail because you think he has more money than he said he had, is ridiculous. If it’s shown that he perjured himself that will do enough damage to him.

16 Open Carriers vs Several Police Officers!

I’m a Tennessee resident. What "right" would I be standing up for when I told a cop I’m not showing ID if someone should happen to see my gun and call it in? -
The XD is not a Springfield; it is imported by Springfield from HS Produkt in Croatia. I don’t know if that matters to you; it does to me. I own both M&P’s and a Kahr. The application for my Kahr is a Micro 40; that was missing in the S&W product line until a few weeks ago with the release of the M&P Shield. Nothing wrong with a Kahr but my Kahr (MK40) cost a lot more than my M&P’s. Just depends on your application. I haven’t owned a 9mm SD gun in 20 years, but I read on the internet the other day that the 9mm’s of today are as powerful as a .357 Mag. 9 or 40 are both good SD rounds; 9 is cheaper to shoot.

Unless there is a specific law on the discharge of firearms; discharging a firearm where it could hit a person or a house would come under 39-13-103 Reckless Endangerment. Like anything else I would guess the determination would go in this order. Deputy or Officer decides if he thinks the shooting situation is okay or not. If he makes an arrest the DA will decide if he wants to prosecute. If he does a Judge or Jury will decide what they think about it. It’s one of those laws that are not clearly defined and if the need arises; “reasonable people†will decide your fate based on your actions, or based on something or someone getting shot. Reckless Endangerment with a deadly weapon is a felony and the end of your gun privileges.
