I mainly watch FOX NEWS. I know, no surprise there. But I would guess this happens will all the MSM journalists, and I use that term loosely. They love to hear themselves talk, they love to impress us with how they can take a very long time to ask a question and give us all the possible answers, so we know how smart they are. Then as the expert starts to talk, they either cut them off because they must impress us with their next question, or they run out of time. So….FOX please let the experts you bring on give the answers to the questions we want to know. Ask them quickly and give them plenty of time to answer. And unless they are babbling, let them speak, don’t interrupt. That is all.

After We've Sheltered In Place. COVID-19. Coronavirus.

I will take the vaccine as soon as its available. That will be my contribution to the cause. -
The point being… is this an issue? We are in a dire emergency. I would guess the nurses that want to work will work, those that don’t; won’t. Will there be a mass pulling of licenses?? Doubtful. But I could be wrong; don't laugh it's happened before.

Good read. At some point either hard choices must be made, or we stand by hand wringing while our country goes down the tubes. I have said before I am not a financial expert. But I know how manufacturing works and how it impacts our economy. To keep our economy from collapsing both businesses and individual workers will have to make choices, hard choices. You can’t ask people that are scared to work if they don’t want to. But you can ask people to work that know what the risks are, and are willing to take them. The government can’t decide who can work, what businesses can stay open etc. That is going to have to be done by the individual businesses and the individual workers. This won’t be over until a vaccine or a cure is found for this. The experts are still saying that short of a miracle that normally would take 12-18 months or even longer. So this, “Lets stay home for a couple of more weeks” is BS. Nothing is going to change in a couple of weeks. Businesses that are willing to keep their workers working and pay them should be the first to get monetary help from the government. But the liberals/socialists are worried that business may get some money, and of course that’s evil as far as they can see. -
I don't know, so I looked it up because common sense tells me that is not correct. A quick check (couple of minutes) shows that Nurse.com says nurses are not required to act. But as I said; I doubt this is even an issue.

That was also discussed many times where I worked; and dismissed. To do that you have to have people you can trust to work without supervision. We didn’t have enough of those type people; most of our people must have constant supervision. I would have fired a bunch of them, but it was impossible to find replacements that would live where our facility was. We had a couple of programmers that were contract workers that worked from home. What kind of job do you have that doesn’t require you to be at your employers facility? -

Maybe. Companies that haven’t already done that if it’s a possibility, might do it. But my WAG is that is a very small percentage of businesses. Most companies making a product can’t do that. The backbone of our economy is our blue-collar working class. -
I guess its possible, since many people have tested positive and did not develop symptoms. I’m trying to stay away from the “numbers game”. First, we all know from gun statistics that you can make the numbers show anything you want; even if you have to lie. Secondly, we don’t have good data. We can’t trust the data that is coming out of some countries; so we must dismiss it. Also, there are 18000 of the machines required for the “quick test”, more are being shipped daily. Our ability and the number of tests changes dramatically, sometimes daily, so the target, and results, keeps moving. The only number that I think matters is the number of dead. And its fair to compare that number to other flu deaths. The number of ventilators keeps grabbing headlines. Everyone that needs ventilators, has them. And ventilators aren’t a magic bullet. Most people don’t go on a vent, and I don’t know what the percentage number is, but it is my understanding that a large percentage of people that go on a vent; die.

You are assuming people would have enough intelligence to decide if their business should stay open or not, with all our lives on the line. They won’t, some are too stupid and have to be told. For others its too emotional, they will lose their business, they also have to be told. I saw in a thread where some nurses were concerned, they would be threatened if they didn’t work. Has that really happened? From what I know of nurses, most of them you couldn’t stop from working when sick and dying people need them in an emergency. I suspect the number that would have to be threatened would be so small; it wouldn’t be worth messing with. Just like Police Officers and Fire Fighters have always done; they move towards the danger to deal with it. Now we have a new group doing that; those that are risking their lives by going to work so you don’t starve to death. But there isn’t enough PPE to protect the newest group. Some even think keeping PPE from them is "Free Enterprise". Your rights end where other people’s rights begin. If this continues much longer, I would guess Martial Law will be declared when the looting starts. Then you will have a better idea of what “the government controlling everyone” is truly like.

Agreed, most businesses will require most people to return to work to resume anywhere close to normal. That requires special safety precautions and equipment that we are being told is not available right now. But it is being worked on. Our economy crashing would be worse than this virus. Sorry, that’s just what I believe. We can’t shut our economy down for weeks or months. I think most are coming to the same conclusion. -
Can the government really shut down my business and make me stay at home?

I think Tennessee has as good a highway system as anyone. But they don’t know how to get an accident off the roadway. Matter of fact, they are probably the slowest in the entire nation. But far be from me to complain without having a fix. So, if THP would like me to teach a class on how to clear a wreck off the roadway and get traffic moving again; I would be more than happy to share that knowledge. -
I assumed it was either over lack of PPE, hours, or some nurses thinking they may be threatened with working or losing their license. I don’t really see where unionizing helps any of those things. I doubt anyone will threaten them with losing their license if they don’t work. That would be crazy, and I doubt it would be enforceable. Knowing what I know about nurses, I suspect most are all working all the hours they can. As you say hospitals don’t have control over PPE; other than to request what they need. That’s the big problem I see right now. The food processing industry and other essentials industries can’t keep going without that same protection. They are sending out emails daily notifying employees at my wife’s work of how many tested positive. They have told employees to stay home if they have a temperature. They don’t have proper masks, they just have nuisance masks, so they told them if they want to make their own, they will allow them to wear them on the floor. They are sharing on FaceBook how to fold bandannas into masks.

Truck Drivers and Road Construction Workers are kinda like Cops and Lawyers; they suck until you need them. -
What do they think joining a union will do for them? That’s not an argument or disagreement it’s a question.

Amazon workers walked off the job because they don’t have PPE. (They fired the guy that started it) They are trying to get others to do the same. They better be cranking up some factories to get this gear out. -

People that make product needed by us all can’t do it from home. People that can work from home aren’t the answer for manufacturing. I can work from home and did so before this happened, but I’m a CNC programmer. People must be on the shop floor to make product, or food. They are the ones that will be in harms way while we all sit around and watch. They are also going to need protective gear, the same protective gear they are saying is in short supply for Medical workers. -

Is pulling your boat to the lake, non-essential??
DaveTN replied to Dirtshooter's topic in Hunting and Fishing
I don’t own a boat. I did own a boat once. But I discovered a boat is a hole in the water where you throw money. I don’t fish either. I don’t have the patience. No need to leave. You can stay here with us no boating, no fishing, no out running all over the place guys. -

We should, but its hard to do right now. -
I heard that the reason those ships hadn’t had many patients was that they had to go to the hospital first; and then be sent there. That doesn’t make sense, so they are supposed to be changing that.

Why all the animosity? I asked you a question. I wasn't calling you a liar like you just did me, I’ve watched a lot of the briefings and have never heard anyone say that people that were asymptomatic couldn’t spread the virus, just the opposite. But of course, I could have missed it.
-
Whose claims? Did someone claim that people that were asymptomatic couldn’t spread the virus?

If you watch the video, 3M says they are not making the decisions. They are claiming they don’t sell masks, that it’s their distributors and they have no control over that. They told Florida their orders were being “pushed back” because foreign buyers are showing up with cash. I submit that is price gouging and during this emergency is probably a crime. I say “probably” because I don’t really care if it’s a crime or not and don’t want to debate that; it’s wrong. -

I might have to weigh that against the possibility of the French cutting off our antibiotic supply. But that's not what you asked.
