Four Tennessee men face charges in gun sales
DaveTN replied to BLACKVANDRIVER's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
It’s about control; not money. The Feds don’t get any money from a legal transfer. If sales go through dealers the Feds have control and hold the dealers accountable. Last year 13K transfers were denied and 356 stolen guns identified. (in this state) I’m not trying to justify it; just saying it is what it is. -
I’d tell them, they do if you get picked up in a helicopter to go sell them.
-
I'm sorry, I wasn’t addressing what you did. I was just saying I can understand why a gun shop may have a policy not to pull loaded weapons inside the store. Same reason I understand the no loaded weapons in gun shows policy. Unlike a store it’s to big to keep an eye on everyone and people can, and will do stupid things. Last discharge we heard of here at a gun show was a dealer.

I don’t know about that, but he is the guy that the state suspended his HCP saying he “poses a material likelihood of risk to the publicâ€. The Federal government after making all their claims about instituting better background checks; then issued him Federal Firearms Dealers License. So… he can’t carry a gun in this state; but he can be a gun dealer.

I don’t even work in a gun store, but I have seen some pretty ignorant stuff. The people that work in them must see it all the time. There is no reason to unholster a loaded weapon inside a store. If you want to try a holster or you need work on your gun, you either go outside and clear it, or you clear it before you bring it in. That’s common sense isn’t it?

Sent you a PM. I don't think we are allowed to post it here.

I wouldn’t worry too much about it. I have both a C&R and an HCP and I can’t remember anyone selling me a gun asking for any ID. If I’m selling I ask for proof of age (if they look young) and a Tennessee driver’s license. Never had any problems with that. I’m required by law to check that they are a Tennessee resident and are of age. Unless a person told me they couldn’t legally own a gun I wouldn’t have any way to know that or to check it. If someone starts telling you they can’t legally buy a gun in a gun store; you are being set-up. The biggest concern with a FTF gun buy is that you are setting up a meet with someone you don’t know and they know you will have a large amount of cash. I choose the meeting place carefully and I get names and phone numbers I can verify or I don’t go. Unless they are long time members here. Get your HCP. I have had a C&R for about six years now and never used it to buy a gun, but it has saved me some money with some on-line retailers on gun stuff.

A Dalton, GA cop drives by and sees two guns handling a handgun at the trunk of a car. He stops and checks it out. He can’t enforce Tennessee law. Therefore the question becomes can a TN resident transfer a handgun to anyone in GA without going through an FFL? No. Your two friends would have to cross the border into Tennessee to be legal.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but in Tennessee its 5 cars a year before you have to have a dealer’s license. I think you have to go through a licensed person to sell Mutual Funds, but I could be wrong about that also. No license for Gold since 1975. I don’t think ATF is getting anyone for buying guns as an investment; they are getting them for selling without a dealer’s license and knowingly selling to convicted felons. I’m all for the Feds putting a number on it and ending the controversy, but it’s the gun owners that don’t want that to happen. When you are selling multiple guns a month and you are doing it month after month, you are making yourself a target. -
It is against the law to lie to gain money; it’s called fraud, theft by deception or deceptive practices. As I said, I don’t think the SCOTUS decisions stops these people from being prosecuted if they are lying to collect money. It just means they can’t be arrested for telling you they are a MOH recipient (or whatever). It’s the same as someone addressing a thread like they were a cop and then saying they “worked in Law Enforcementâ€, only to find out they were a dispatcher or an IT guy. It just shoots any credibility they had; but it’s not illegal.

I’m certainly no Kerry fan, but he earned his awards.

I went on the Ponce about 6 months after she was commissioned (around January of 72 I think). I went on the first cruises in the Caribbean and a Med cruise. I left in 73, but I don’t remember when, I will have to look. I worked in the Machine Shop just inside the Starboard entry off the flight deck. I stood some engine room watches underway and was a Mike Boat Engineer for landing Ops. When I made E-4 I got transferred to the Holland in Charleston. It then went to Bremerton, WA. One of my best friends that was a Plank Owner gave me that lighter. I was pretty upset that someone stole it. Cool belt buckles. Have you seen the news that they made the Ponce a “Mother Ship Small world.

If you saw a guy shooting cans offhand with a handgun with open sights at 100 yards and hitting them every time; you were in the presence of shooter greatness. A guy like that could probably do it with any gun that would shoot straight. Provided of course by “cans†you mean beer or coffee can size. If by “can†you mean 55 gallons drums; not so impressive. Kimbers are definitely at the top of the heap in production 1911’s. But give credit where credit is due; you saw a very good shooter.

At work we were discussing the controversy about legalizing drugs. We were talking about how with pot you don’t have the irrational combative behavior or driving reckless that you have with alcohol and other drugs. The next day this story came out.

None taken. I’m just pointing out that I’m wondering about a quick way to contact forum dealers other than finding each of them and sending PM’s.

Truck Driver Takes Wrong Turn While Hauling Ammo, Detained in Mexico
DaveTN replied to JohnC's topic in General Chat
Mexico let some ammo cross the border. http://www.elpasotim...ews/ci_20015986 Of course there is nothing we can do, even when they think it was fired by a Mexican cop. The woman deserves a payday from Mexico. Lets see how that works out. -
As I read it, it could still be charged that way. Intent is the deciding factor. Saying you are a decorated hero to impress someone is one thing, saying it to help you get money is still fraud. Generally, claiming to be a cop is not a crime. Again intent is important. Telling someone you are a cop is not a crime. Restricting their movement and telling them you are a cop is impersonating a Police Officer. Is it illegal to wear a TBI or FBI jacket? Is it illegal to wear a full Police uniform? Saying you are a MOH recipient would be ignorant. There have only been 4 since Vietnam. All you would need is a name and 30 seconds to check.

Truck Driver Takes Wrong Turn While Hauling Ammo, Detained in Mexico

I don’t doubt he made a wrong turn. I just can’t imagine that if he told our agents that he has a load that would be illegal to take into Mexico, they would have told him, “You have to enter Mexico to turn aroundâ€. No, I have never been there. When they have a suspect semi, do they have to let it enter Mexico to turn it around? The Mexican government will try to turn this into a big deal. He should have told them he was hauling illegals or drugs into the U.S.; they probably would have let him go. -

If all that was involved was paying money (They only cost $200) I would have one, but many of us are banned from having one by zoning codes and ordnances. -

“Forced to cross the border†doesn’t sound right to me. Our Border Agents would have turned him around on our side. Something else for the Mexican government to whine about. -
Get a degree in something you like to do and can find a job in. If you enjoy the work you will never work a day in your life. With all due respect if I wanted to work as a cop (and I have) I wouldn’t waste my time on a criminal justice degree. Any LEO Agency would rather you a degree in something they could use; they will teach you everything you need to know about being a cop. If I wanted to work in criminal justice I would get a law degree and pass the bar. (That’s what I wish I would have done)

My question was about buying from and supporting forum FFL’s. I’m buying a new gun, and from an FFL I absolutely no concerns about the BATF.
