SSA, NOAA, and DHS ammo purchases???
DaveTN replied to JPR1959's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Because all over this country nut jobs are walking into places and killing everything that moves. People are realizing that the only way to stop a shooter is to be a shooter. As much as I hate Obama he didn’t have anything to do with the jump in business around the election; gun owners (and gun/ammo retailers) did that. -

SSA, NOAA, and DHS ammo purchases???

I was addressing the SSA. I don’t know why NOAA would need investigators, but I would think they have building security. They have a lot of high dollar equipment. -

295 Armed Security Officers is about the size of many medium sized city Police Departments. I don’t know why this ammo purchase would be of any concern. -
The courts have ruled that student’s cars can be searched without a warrant but with probable cause. That is true of a vehicle almost anywhere. The issue with students (or employee’s) is usually that if they refuse to give permission to search the Police are going to become involved. Once the Police are involved it’s out of the hands of the teachers or employers on how the situation will be handled. The issue with employers wanting to search cars is usually theft, not guns. That situation is not going to end well for the employee if there is stolen company property in his car by involving the Police.

Just as with giving someone liquor or tobacco products I am legally responsible to know that the person is of age, not guess or assume; know. I am also legally responsible to know that they are a resident of the state of Tennessee. I have no way to know that without seeing a Tennessee ID. I am not legally responsible to know if they are barred from gun ownership; neither the state nor the Feds allow me access to that kind of information. That’s why it’s only illegal to sell to someone you know is a felon. If someone doesn’t want to show you ID; don’t sell to them. If the state or the Feds were truly interested in trying to keep guns out of the hands of people barred from owning guns they would either make that information available or they would offer free gun transfers. Most of the people in these mass shootings would have been able to legally purchase guns with a background check, and many did. Many of them had mental issues that people knew about, but protecting the rights of a nutcase is more important than those 70 people in a movie theater, or your kids in school.

GM still sells more cars than any company in the world. It would be an economic disaster for them to fail. They make bigger, better quality, cars and trucks than the imports. We ever get the import buyers that are still living in the 70’s back to the future and our economy will get better.

Moviegoer accidentally shoots himself in the rear
DaveTN replied to jtluttrell's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Carrying an unsecured weapon is reckless. He was a danger to everyone around him and makes all of us that use proper equipment and procedures look bad. The no gun signs are put up because of idiots like him. He’s lucky be only shot himself. -
Acronis True Image. Restore your computer to whenever you like. Reformats, reimages the drive, no need to reload OS or programs, takes about an hour on an average computer. Saved my butt a few times at home and at work.

Sumner County Deputy fired and arrested

Kidnapping? What did he do? How old was she? The story doesn’t really say much. -
I made the mistake of going to a LEADS school and would have to fill in for dispatchers if they were off sick. Highest stress job I have ever did as a cop. Technology may have changed it a lot since then but knowing what’s going on all the time and keeping track of a bunch of cops is pretty stressful; good luck. I would think being able to remain calm but still act quickly in an emergency would be the most important qualification they would be looking for.

We agree that everyone should be able to have and carry guns; we disagree on where those rights come from and how you address those that want to ban firearms. I think you were getting a little emotional when you told me I don’t know what an assault rifle is. I have learned on here that when it turns away from the issues and targets the individual its best to bail. Since you say you aren’t trying to make it personal or emotional I will try this again. I won’t bore you with my experience, but I can assure you I know what an assault rifle is. First let’s address the “Rights†issue. As soon as the words “2nd Amendment†leaves your mouth in an argument on gun rights; you have lost. The rights issues have been resolved recently with both Heller and McDonald. The SCOTUS made the only choice they could make and leave us with any gun rights; they cut the baby in half. You have a right to “keep†arms, but your right to “Bear†arms lies with the state. The SCOTUS or no other government agency is going tell any state that they must allow their citizens to strap on a gun and walk down the street; it’s not going to happen because its unenforacble. They knew that. But they also knew that if they ruled the 2nd amendment is not an individual right some states would totally ban firearms; they didn’t want that either. Now let’s address the “assault rifle†rant. A man walked into a theater and in 2 minutes put down 70 people; no “assault rifles†were present. Do you think that anyone will care what name you put on the gun? Do you think that when they want to ban assault type weapons your argument that your AR-15 is not what Wikipedia or ARFCOM defines as an assault rifle will matter? You aren’t really going to try to make the argument that an AR-15 is not a high capacity battle rifle are you? You fell into the trap of throwing out the “Chicago†scare. You will have cold hard undisputed facts put in front of you that will dispel the myth that cities where guns are allowed are safer. When I said before “one wordâ€â€¦ Memphis. Memphis is always at the top of any list of high crime cities, yet guns are freely available and citizens can carry; what’s up with that? Having said that… I don’t think gun laws have much to do with crime rates one way or the other. I don’t try to make people think guns are safe, guns are as safe as the people handling them and I have seen a lot of ignorant people handling guns. Battle rifles were designed to kill people. I use them for sporting as target rifles, but that is not what they were designed for. But if SHTF I at least may a chance of protecting myself from thugs or looters that want to kill me. 70 people were dropped by a single gunman in that theater because no one had the ability to stop the threat. Make all the arguments you want about smoke, noise, whatever, but there are people who could have engaged the threat, because they have done it before, and there are those that have been trained that would have tried even if they haven’t done it before. There are people who would have engaged the threat if they had a gun. Those victims were wounded and died because most states have not grasped the concept that the only way to stop an active shooter is with another active shooter. (Or kill him in simpler terms.) That’s what just happened in Milwaukee. Who knows what the body count would have been if he hadn’t been engaged and killed. Unfortunately they had to wait for someone with a gun to show up.

Okay, I’ll just stay out of this and watch and learn.

That’s what brought my attention to your post. Your “Chicago†and Corvette†comments were thrown out there like facts. Are you implying that cities that have tight gun control have higher crime or murder rates than those that don’t? Not an argument I would want to use; you will get shut down in one word around here. The cars…. boats… motorcycle… knives… 2X4’s; comparisons just can’t be taken seriously. That you can’t outlaw guns and expect criminals not to have them anymore than you can drugs, or alcohol, or tobacco products. The only thing that you can hope for if someone is going to shoot you or a family member is that there is a gun in the hand of a good guy nearby that knows how to use it. Big, heavy caliber guns that will stop the threat before the bad guy can get a round off. No need to apologize, but don’t think that everyone that thinks 100 round rifle caliber magazines serve no purpose is a gun grabber. There is no “Rights†argument anymore; it’s over. You have a right to own guns. The State has the right to regulate when and where you will carry them. I don’t want to see AR’s banned, but I’m not about to make the argument it’s not an “Assault Rifleâ€; certainly it is.

So if I took some of these people to the range with me and I cut loose with 20 rounds of .308 from my DPMS Panther, you think that they would recognize that it is not full auto, or that the devastation they just witnessed doesn’t meet Wikipedia’s definition of an “assault rifleâ€? I’ve owned Corvettes and Motorcycles most of my life. You make a good point when you say that you don’t care if they ban Corvettes because you have no interest in them; anti’s say them same about guns. I have no interest in full auto weapons or suppressors; doesn’t mean I want to see them banned. 70 people were put down in Aurora in a couple of minutes and no full auto weapons were used. I have the right to protect my family and my property. Gang bangers have high capacity weapons. So do I, and I don’t try to sugar coat it or make them sound like they aren’t “assault riflesâ€; they are. As we have seen over the years, and will continue to see, there is no way to stop a crazed gunman. A gun ban won’t do it. The only way to stop a shooter is with another shooter. In Aurora the gunman fired until he was out of ammo, 70 people down. In Milwaukee the shooter was engaged by active shooters that killed him; who knows what the body count would have been otherwise.
-
Prepare him to be able to stand his ground for what? An argument that a Corvette is more dangerous than a gun? You mention Chicago and talk about “Facts†are you going to make the argument that cities with stricter gun control have higher crime rates? Citizens can own fully automatic weapons now. If I’m making an argument for me to be able to keep the weapons I have for home defense, I don’t want to tie that to a discussion on fully automatic weapons. Which side would you like me to take? I don’t make comparisons or argue statistics. I simply tell them “The only way to stop an active shooter is with another active shooter.â€

The lottery is doing very well in Tennessee. PowerBall recently went from $1 to $2. Why are you all having to pay these “fees Wasn’t Tennessee one of the states that got gambling approved by saying the money would go to the schools?

From the first Officer on the scene, through the Detectives, to the DA; people are going to making decisions about you that will ultimately determine if you go to trial or not. There is nothing wrong with saying you want to talk to your attorney; but you better be able to make that happen. I’ve never taught a handgun carry class and I don’t practice law, but I’ve been a responding Officer on several shootings and homicides. You can’t stand silent when there is a dead body on your living room floor and think the cops are going to let you come in when it’s convenient for you. Have a plan. And have a plan that involves something other than watching an internet video of an attorney telling you not to say anything.

Since you say “supposedly†is it fair to assume that’s just a story someone told along the line of passing this gun between buyers? It could happen. I doubt any LE Agency would get rid of it without running it through NCIC, but they could have run the number wrong. I mean hey… a guy orders a TV and gets a SIG AR…. Anything can happen.

She should have called 911 and led him around until they got him instead of going home. Glad everything is okay.
