  1. Dial the numbers in here... http://www.miata.net...e/tirecalc.html
  2. Some departments put the offender in the squad when writing a ticket. Personally I think its crazy; but to each his own.
  3. In my quest to cover all applications with a 40S&W; have the M&P 40 in Full-size, Compact, and Shield. I also have a Kahr MK40. The M&P Compact is just a little bigger than the Glock 27, basically the same size but the M&P holds one more round. The Compact uses a 10 round mag, but can use a 15 round full-size mag (not great for carry, but works when on nightstand duty or at the range). The Shield is much smaller and is 7 round. I would not have bought the MK40 if I had known it was coming out. As always everything is application driven. I have a 40 for all applications, but not one that covers then all.
  4. My best friend is in congestive heart failure for over a year. The Vet said big dogs go quickly, but he still keeps going. He doesn’t know he’s sick. My wife use to let him out to greet me when I came home, but we had to stop that because he gets so excited. I take the best care of him that I can for all the great years he has given me. This is very hard.
  5. I agree. My charge was a misdemeanor of carrying a gun in my car in Illinois. Even if it had not been dismissed it would have not been a disqualifier. However the gal at TBI told me because it was possibly a felony in Tennessee; the sale was stopped. It was approved on appeal… twice. Turns out she was clueless about the cause. Not many people want to help when it involves someone charged with a crime buying a gun (guilty or not). I’m just offering up what happened to me. You can do a lot without having to pay an attorney to do it. But you have to know for sure what the cause is, and that usually involves either starting at the source, or doing like I did and applying to the ATF, who did give me a direct cause and told me how to fix it. It cost me $30, it was going to cost me nearly that much to get a copy of my records from the FBI, plus now I have a C&R. I purchased many guns in several states that did background checks and was never denied. Why it started 20 years later in Tennessee I have no idea.
  6. I would only offer this… If you are making a 2nd amendment argument; you are dead before you get started. That question has been answered by the SCOUTS. There is going to be no Federal carry laws. At least not that you will like. The Federal government isn’t going to tell the state of California they have to let you carry a gun; they don’t have that authority. You need to convince the state that you have a natural right to protect your life. Its common sense and a lot more states are headed that way. I would like to see Tennessee be the 5th state to recognize a carry right for all citizens. Good luck though; California recognizing a right to carry would certainly be a tremendous help for other states.
  7. This comes up all the time and the answer is always the same… No, you are not legally required to disclose. Did he say it was the law, or that it was a good idea? You live in a state where it is a crime to carry a gun. Even though I am not required to disclose I am going to do it. My first reason is that I have been in his shoes and out of respect for him; I don’t want any surprises that he needs to react quickly to (I would appreciate that from anyone that I stopped). The second is out of concern for my safety; I don’t want any surprises that he needs to react quickly to. However, that is courtesy and concern for everyones safety; not the law.
  8. I’m guessing it will be another case of the disposition not showing up. You say “One was an arrest onlyâ€. I assume you mean that charges were not filed or it was dismissed in some other way. Your record needs to show the disposition. I don’t know what you mean by “AMS†on the other charge, but if that is some type of court supervision the disposition needs to show that the charges were dismissed. On the other charge you say your gun rights were “restoredâ€. If your record shows a conviction involving drugs or violence, Tennessee may not recognize an expungement or even a pardon. In that case you would have to contact an attorney. The first thing you need to do is to get documentation from the clerk of the court where these charges were filed. Tell them you need notarized documentation showing the disposition and ask them if the disposition was entered properly into the system. I went through this with the TBI and they were of little help on how to fix it. It wasn’t until I applied for my C&R that the ATF told me I had a misdemeanor charge that didn’t show a disposition. I submitted the proper paperwork and haven’t had a problem since. What’s the difference in the TBI and the FBI? The FBI isn’t making the determination; the TBI is. And if they see any charge that would be a disqualifier that doesn’t show a dismissal; they stop the sale. The DOS may have had more information and allowed the permit. Good luck.
  9. People saying they won’t fly will have as much impact and people saying they won’t drive because they don’t agree with traffic laws….. Zero impact. The TSA needs to be put in check. But the airlines have no more control over that than the trucking companies have over the various state agency’s that Police that industry. Air travel is up. Businesses travel more than ever before, rates are affordable for people that don’t want to spend half the vacation staring at the windshield of a car. There is no point is trying to slow yet another American industry because the Federal Government is putting thugs at the gate. Yes, I will still fly. But the TSA is a disgrace; they are no more than a government jobs program.
  10. I’m thinking about using cloud storage for backing up. Acronis offers 250GB for $50 a year. I’m concerned with security. I mean once it’s out there; it’s out there. How do you pick a secure site, or how are they rated? What do you guys think?
  11. I agree. I would have been nice about it, but I would have called the Police for that jurisdiction and they would either get my permit back or verify this “New†policy. A CLEO could try anything he wanted, but who would pay for the background check, and why? If any disqualifier had happened since the last background check and the permit had been revoked; a simple check would show that.
  12. Yes. There is no such law as brandishing a weapon. If you unlawfully threaten someone with a gun; its aggravated assault. But all the elements of the offense need to be there. Nothing keeps you from asking a meter reader or contractor who they are or what they are doing. But putting them on the ground at gunpoint may well end with you being arrested. A jury will decide if you putting a meter reader on the ground at gun point was reasonable.
  13. Another vote for the M&P. I have the full size, Compact and Shield in 40. Accurate, reliable, excellent fit and finish, and made here by an American company.
  14. Apparently no third party got the memo, because none are rising for this election. Maybe next time.
  15. I like to shop after work during the week, but can’t there before 5. We need a gun shop in the Boro’ that will compete on price.
  16. As a former Illinois cop I have a message for you Mr. Mayor. The Police can’t protect anyone…. Period. Anyone that thinks they can is a fool. So, if they are going to speak out they will have to protect themselves. However, you have taken away their right to protect themselves by disarming them, while the people you want them to speak out against are very well armed. Get a clue.
  17. “Zero tolerance†policies are for people that don’t want to do their job (Teachers, Administrators, etc.) or it is used to force others to enforce their beliefs (taking discretion away from cops).
  18. I have used WWB as range ammo for years in my 40’s with no problems. The last time I went Wal-Mart was out and I picked up 250 round Remington UMC, shot a whole box without any problems. I think it was $80 plus tax.
  19. Chuck Yeager is a legend. He was also the first pilot to break the sound barrier. I would be very impressed with being able to meet him. Which has nothing to do with this…
  20. Here is what an Illinois Judge said when he ruled the charges unconstitutional a year ago.
  21. Police need to be sent out every time a citizen sees something they don’t think is right. Carrying an ax down the street is legal, but if someone thinks you look suspicious doing it they will call the cops and the cops will go check it out. Stop for minute and imagine the kind of backlash there would be if a citizen called in a man with a gun and the dispatcher didn’t send someone and he opened fire on a bunch of people. It’s their job; it’s what they do. And if they handle it like this cop did there will be no problems.
  22. Jeanne Assam carried at church. A bunch of people are alive because she did.
  23. The 80% doesn't come into play unless you are going to sell lowers. Then you would need a letter from the ATF saying your lowers meet that requirement. The problem with this is not making the lower; it's making it thinking you are going to sell or transfer it.
  24. I don’t know why it would be a “Can of worms†with the government. You can legally make your own gun. You can make it from scratch, or you can buy forged lowers that are unfinished. Plastic just isn’t practical to make a complete gun. 3D printing is pretty cool though for prototyping. Of course it can be used to make stuff that is illegal or controlled, but this machine doesn’t change the risk of doing something like that.
  25. It’s not 12.5†its 9.2â€, but does a PLR-16 meet the needs of you application? No muss, no government fuss.
