Firearms confiscation. How would it go down?
DaveTN replied to timcar86's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I’m still curious as to why this going to happen? It has about as much chance of happening as a ballistic submarine firing a “warning shot†nuke over Washing D.C. from a foreign island. But that makes for great TV. -

Should a case make it to them they think they should hear; they will rule the same way this court did. We already fought a war over States Rights and it isn’t going to happen again. This isn’t about guns; it’s about States’ Rights and the SCOTUS is not going to make a decision that cannot be enforced. -
Apples, Oranges an Applications. 1911’s don’t have competition except from other 1911’s. Don’t buy one without shooting one and spending some time handling it to see if that’s what you want. Why would you want something with “Loose†tolerances or fit? That equates to inaccuracies in any semi-auto handgun. 1911’s can’t be thrown down in the mud or frozen in a bucket of water and still function properly. If you drag your gun around on a rope or store it in a bucket of water or sand; buy a Tupperware gun. As all of us have found it’s not a choice between 1911’s and Tupperware guns; you have to have both. If your budget right now will only allow for one and you need a carry gun; go with the Tupperware. For Tupperware check out the Smith & Wesson M&P line. They have any size and caliber you want.

Yes, other than it being a lame TV show; to what end? Also… me and my band of Patriots would own any vehicles rolling into our area government or otherwise. So you envision a bunch of American Military following food trucks around collecting guns? -

And they would refuse and that would probably be the end of it. “The governmentâ€, even if they wanted to, can not plan any kind of “take over†of anything without knowing how many troops they have. If you give an unlawful order and your troops refuse; you are done. The SCOTUS has ruled on gun rights. You have the right to own guns, the state determines when and where you can carry them. Yes, they could outlaw EBR’s, but that is doubtful. As TMF points out, it’s logistically impossible. Of course if you believe Obama is going to invoke Martial Law for no good reason, and those that are task with carrying it out are going to follow his orders; you aren’t going to care about facts. -

It can’t happen, and if your friends listens to Alex Jones and is not intelligent enough to see that this guy is only lining his pockets by exploiting the fears of the weak and uneducated; he won’t understand what you are saying. -
Might as well just go ahead and do away with the legal system, and let all the criminals out. People make mistakes. There are innocent people in prison, and there will be innocent people executed for crimes they did not commit (yet we still have the death penalty). Who would take a job knowing that if they make a mistake they will be sued personally? Don’t be a criminal and chances are you won’t have to deal with mistakes made by the court.

Those are two very different statements, be curious to know which she said. -
Best DMV to file for carry permit?
DaveTN replied to Luke E.'s topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I went there for my renewal and the line was out the door; I just mailed it in. You would think they would add another office or expand the one they have. I use to drive by there on my way to work a few years back when they were handing out licenses to illegals and the line would be around the building at 6AM. But curious to find out where you end up going if I ever do need to go. -
Cop Shoots and Kills Unarmed Ex-Soldier Near LaGuardia
DaveTN replied to daddyo's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
That’s what I wondered when I read the story. I doubt the cop would pull up beside him to flip him off, I figured the cop was showing a badge; may have looked like a hand flipping someone off to her. Who knows? -
I respectfully disagree, and I only posted what I did because it’s a safety issue; and it’s only fair to warn revolver owners of that before they go trying a trigger job. I have done many trigger jobs on many Smith & Wesson revolvers. I am a Toolmaker by trade and I have done many competition guns of my own. I have never done a J-frame and wouldn’t help someone else do theirs. I am not disrespecting the J-frames as I have carried them for many years and a model 36 is the only gun in my collection that I have had for over 30 years; it was my first off duty gun. But they are “belly guns†or “pocket guns†not target guns. There is a reason you won’t see anyone shooting a j-frame in competition. The mechanical designed of the j-frame spring system is totally different than the others. That wasn’t by accident it was by design. These guns are carried in places that aren’t really safe; like pockets. Sure, if you keep it in a decent holster all the time the chance of something pulling the trigger is pretty slim, but many people don’t. I don’t do action jobs (other than some minor clean up) on carry guns; I certainly don’t take a stone to them as I would a competition gun. There is no testing or licensing for Gun Smiths so unless you know personally the quality of a Smiths work you have no idea what you are getting. Too many passes of the stone and you may have a gun that will no longer lock up, or worse; not fire when you need it. The fact that you go fire a box of ammo with no problems doesn’t mean it won’t fail at the worst possible time. That’s true of most any work you do to a carry guns. Now… you want a glass smooth revolver action that is sweet to shoot, and will impress your friends? Get a K or L frame, a stone, some oil, do some research and go to town. Just do yourself (and everyone else) a favor and don’t put it in the SD rotation. Waat to “smooth up†your J-frame a little bit? Put a couple thousands rounds through it and enjoy.

Cop Shoots and Kills Unarmed Ex-Soldier Near LaGuardia
DaveTN replied to daddyo's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Typical news story. Either you believe that they walked up and executed him while his hands were on the steering wheel. Or you believe that they were stopping a reckless vehicle and while at gun point, the driver reached under the seat. Since there was no gun it’s a bad deal for all (especially the driver). But based on what the people in the car said; he put this in motion. It was stupid and he paid with his life. -
I don’t think Obama has tried to hide his stand on guns. He has said that he would like to see all semi-auto guns outlawed. I missed the debate, did he something other than that? The Brady Bunch is crystal clear on their stand; I don’t think there is much confusion there.

I’m no expert, but I’ve always used Linksys routers. I’m 2K SQ feet on one level and mine even has an excellent signal in my detached garage 70 feet from the house. Could your problem have been Channels or interference?
-
That video that is linked here is for K, L and N frames. J-frames do not have a light trigger or have a glass smooth action by design, and won’t no matter how much money you spend. I personally wouldn’t mess with one, and that’s what most of the Gunsmith I have known have told me.

You don’t have a long range target rifle, or any .22 “Trigger time†guns. You are going to the range 4-5 times a month, so you are spending what… $250..$500 a month in ammo?
-
I take a truck load of guns to Illinois when I go, because it is the best place I have to shoot. But when I go to Chicago, I don’t take any firearms period. I would assume D.C. is the same way, they are going to do what they are going to do, and it appears they are going to arrest you if they find a gun. I wouldn’t roll the dice on that. Oh and BTW… We spent a couple of days in D.C. on vacation a few years ago and I can’t wait to go again. Rich with history for the history buffs. Live life on the edge and go there without a gun.
-
For a low cost .22, I don’t think there is any .22 out there than can compete with the Remington 597 for out of the box accuracy. Unless they got it taken care of they had some break in feeding issues, but mine was a tack driver. It’s still a good size for a youngster, but closer to the size of a real rifle than some other 22's.

One he doesn’t want any more if he’s hunting in Tennessee. Isn’t it illegal in this state to hunt from an airplane?

Fake Military Documents, Weapons Found in Abandoned Pickup
DaveTN replied to QuietDan's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
He’s taken into custody for that. My guess (and it’s just a WAG) is that this is a traffic accident that led to something more. And with fake military documents, firearms and a general discharge; he now has the attention of Homeland Security (His profile fits exactly the type thing they look for). I’m sure we will find out more later….. -

says he was charged with document tampering. -
I don’t carry every day, although I almost always have access. But it’s probably because I don’t fear dying. I wouldn’t have got an HCP if Tennessee allowed vehicle carry. And that’s probably why they never will allow it.

I wouldn’t pay the high price for a drink if it wasn’t for effect. I would drink sparkling water and save my money for guns.

I have a question about being denied a purchase.
DaveTN replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I don’t understand. I’ve skimmed through pages and pages of people that were denied a HCP because of previous convictions, some pretty violent. You don’t think that prevents crime? -
I have only tried one; it’s a DPMS Panther LR-308 AP4, had it about five years. I have been happy with its performance. I don’t shoot a rifle with open sights, so I haven’t done that, but it’s accurate with whatever scope I have had on it. The only piece of advice I would offer is to get whatever configuration you want when you buy the rifle. The prices on swapping out parts on 308 AR’s is crazy.
