Ok, so I'm ignorant, so inform me
DaveTN replied to E4 No More's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Not only do they not have compatible parts; 308’s don’t have any kind of standard and are not even compatible between manufacturers. Don’t get me wrong, they are my idea of one of the ultimate battle rifles and I have one, but they aren’t mix and match. It’s why parts for them cost so much. I don’t think you can build a 308 AR for what you can buy a quality one for. -
I have a question, in these types of discussions there is always people stating that in “some states†you are required to retreat. I don’t doubt that some states may have laws that may say you must retreat if that will deescalate the situation and you can do so safely. (Although I don’t know which states that may be.) But what states have laws that do not allow you to “Stand Your Ground†when an attacker is pointing a gun at you or threatening you with a knife at arm’s length. Or to put it this way… You are justified in the use of deadly force when a reasonable person would believe you were in immediate danger of death or great bodily harm. In what states would that statement not be true?

I think that green energy needs to go away.

I work in the aerospace industry. We kill more trees than Bark Beetles and no one cares; so I can’t get real excited about it. -
Firearms confiscation. How would it go down?
DaveTN replied to timcar86's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
That’s a pretty wild ride you took us on there. But there is a reason it won’t happen “States Rightsâ€. It’s the same reason the SCOTUS ruled you have the right to “Keep Arms†but not the right to “Bear Armsâ€. I have said it before and I will say it again… the SCOTUS (no matter who is on it) will not make a ruling that is unenforceable on the states. It’s the very reason that when they ruled you have the right to “Keep Arms†they didn’t rule you have the right to “Bear Armsâ€; they can’t. If the President or the Federal Government had all the power some of the “The government is out to get us†theorists think they have, and they truly wanted to disarm the public; they would have done it by now. It just won’t happen. The American people also won’t let the criminals south of us that call themselves a government sue us for anything. If they want paid they are going to have to get it from their ally cartels. -
I’m not saying you should wait; I’m saying I probably would. I can shoot a criminal and go eat lunch. I have never had to shoot a dog, but it would bother me a lot more. Even if I’m not bit; I’m suing the owner if I have to kill a dog. People that let their dogs run loose don’t deserve to own them, but they certainly deserve to pay when someone gets hurt because of their total lack of responsibility.
-
I don’t think I care if they don’t have any training; should I care? (That’s a question not an argument ) I don’t go into Wal-Mart for anything but ammo. They have American Made ammo and the lowest cost of anywhere I can find, including on-line ordering in bulk. I just can’t picture me asking a Wal-Mart employee anything other than maybe when my wife tells me to pick up coffee filters and I can’t find them, but certainly nothing about a gun.
-
It is the responsibility of the dog owner to make sure their dogs are contained to their property… period. And if the dog is off their property and ends up dead; it’s their fault. I’m a dog lover and I would never kill a dog because he came running up to me, or because a neighbor lets their dog get out. However if a dog was attacking me I have no qualms about killing it. I would probably wait long enough that if I judged its intentions wrong I would get bit before I killed it. However; the owner of the dog is going to pay dearly if I get bit on property I have a right to be on.
-
I can’t tell if that’s a serious post or not. But I wouldn’t tie anything done at Wal-Mart to any industry. Pick out any real gun store you want and see what happens when a woman goes in to buy a gun. I would guess that in most she would be treated with the same respect as a man. And most go out of their way to help a woman. Will she be waited on by “Alpha Males Probably.

Everyone wants to throw out the “Stand Your Groundâ€, “Duty to Retreat†“Make My Day†or some other buzz phrase that has little or nothing to do with the shooting. If you believe what the victim said; the only buzz phrases that apply here is “Reasonable Person†and “Immediate Danger of Death or Great Bodily Harmâ€. Those are my own personal tests for the use of deadly force and although I have not checked with each and every state, I think that interpretation will serve me well in all 50 states. Oh yeah, I forgot one other phrase that applies; “Don’t bring a knife to a gunfightâ€.

How long should it take a receiving FFL to check in a gun?
DaveTN replied to a topic in General Chat
My transferring dealer told me that I could pick it up the day after it arrives because his employee in the store logs them in at the end of the day after the store closes. That seemed reasonable to me. -
I don’t think an FFL is required to report an attempt; but I don’t know that for sure. But the responsibility of who you transfer a gun to is absolute. If the guy thought she couldn’t handle the gun and refused to sell it for that reason; he’s a jerk. If he thought it was a straw purchase; he did the right thing. If she thinks she has been wronged she can sue Wal-Mart and see how that works out for her. I’d like to see a court case that acknowledges that anyone has to sell you a gun; but I don’t think it will happen.
-
The story says he thought it was a straw purchase. Liquor, Tobacco, Guns, and Ammo; you have liability when you sell those items and you can refuse to sell to anyone.

Any submarine show is great. It couldn’t happen anymore than “Crimson Tide†could; but it’s good entertainment.

Firearms confiscation. How would it go down?
DaveTN replied to timcar86's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Certainly he makes things up; no one can take him seriously. He is laughing at those that believe the non-sense he puts out; all the way to the bank. Not only can I say Posse Comitatus and Habeas Corpus but I know what they mean; Alex Jones doesn’t. I can’t take too much of Alex Jones at a time, that level of ignorance and anti-American behavior makes my head hurt, but I have watched a few of the videos that have been linked here and he clearly is clueless. -
I don't think so either. I don't think the states will allow it. But if he is reelected; he will try.
-
Beside the Republicans and Democrats you have the following parties with candidates: AMERICA'S PARTY / AMERICAN INDEPENDENT PARTY: AMERICAN THIRD POSITION PARTY: CONSTITUTION PARTY: GREEN PARTY: JUSTICE PARTY: LIBERTARIAN PARTY: OBJECTIVIST PARTY: PARTY OF SOCIALISM AND LIBERATION (PSL): PEACE & FREEDOM PARTY: PROHIBITION PARTY: REFORM PARTY USA: SOCIALIST PARTY USA (SP-USA) / LIBERTY UNION PARTY: SOCIALIST EQUALITY PARTY: SOCIALIST WORKERS PARTY (SWP): and then you have 10 INDEPENDENT CANDIDATES WITH BALLOT STATUS IN AT LEAST ONE STATE. None of those third party candidates have a snowballs chance of getting elected. I don't want to waste time listening to the opinions of someone that can't get elected; I can do that here.
-
He didn't let anything slip. He openly said years ago that he wanted to see all semi-auto guns banned. Some people seemed to think that meant assault weapons; he didn't say that and I don't think that's what he meant. I don't think he can get it done, but I don't see how anyone can be surprised when he tries; especially when he doesn't have to worry about getting reelected.

If you or anyone you know is looking for work as an entry level Machinist or a Machine operator with some experience, and willing to work in Shelbyville; shoot me a PM. You need to have some machining experience. Opening to start immediately. I'm not doing the hiring, but thought I would pass this along to our members that are looking for work. I will PM you the contact name and number.

Oh, I wasn’t making any derogatory remarks about the agents. I meant the attention to detail, the things they want to know, the people they want to talk to, how they handle potential threats, etc. They spent several days there preparing for a 2 hour visit by the President.
-
They are cool. I got to drive around the advance Party of Regan’s Presidential detail, and take them out to the clubs after work. To this day it just amazes me what goes on behind the scenes; and I’m sure they have stepped it up a few notches since then.

Repairing scratches on Kimber Stainless model

If that’s just bead blasted stainless, polish it out and move on. But from those pics it doesn’t look like bead blasted stainless to me. KimPro maybe? -
Chicago considering "Gun Tax"....
DaveTN replied to williamsburg's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Bad time for this to come up. Illinois is considering carry laws; the city of Chicago will fight tooth and nail to stop it. -
I own the M&P full-size, Compact, and shield, all in .40, the SW1911 and SR1911 in the 1911 platform, and have owned many others in 1911. You are comparing the top of the line tupperware gun to the bottom of the line 1911's. (Sorry, but you ask, and you should know that before you spend your money.) If I wanted a carry gun in the 45ACP I would go with a quality 5" 1911 over the M&P45(Just because the M&P is too fat). But if the choice is limited to those two I would go with the M&P.

Repairing scratches on Kimber Stainless model
DaveTN replied to S&WForty's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Removing that from stainless would be pretty quick, but that looks like it has a coating over the stainless. You would need to refinish the frame or send it back to Kimber. Many people have had that problem… http://www.google.co...iw=1536&bih=816 -
I bought mine from D&T. It was $425 ($474.31 OTD).
