1.
He's apparently "from the Army" and is under the impression an AR in 5.56 will do more damage to a deer than 00 buck shot. According to him buck shot was built for deer but there won't be much left if you shoot one with an over powered AR.
5.56 is underpowered and inhumane. It has no business on the hunting field or battlefield. That’s just my opinion though, our government experts obviously don’t agree.
 2. That's an authorization to deputize United States Attorney personnel; not politicians. People have been driving for over a hundred years and we don't have a Federal Vehicle Code because the states can't agree. They won't agree on handgun carry either.
 3.
There were two WWII items I was interested in on Gunbroker, a 1911 and a K98, all original from the description. I didn't see anything about C&R being OK, so I sent a message asking. Both sellers said they will not ship to a C&R, only to an FFL. These are private individuals, not businesses. The first time I was told no, I thought it was wierd. Then the second time I was told no, it really bugged me. I have only A+ feedback on Gunbroker, so they can't be going off that. I'm thinking it's just personal preference.
For the same reason some FFL's won't sell to out of state residents when they are allowed to; because they have to know both states laws and in this case the C&R rules. They may also not want to risk selling to you because being 50 years old does not make it C&R; being 50 and in original condition does. They may just not want to take the risk; deal with someone that will.
 4.
http://m.washingtonpost.com/opinions/dana-milbank-the-confederacy-of-takers/2012/11/13/d8adc7ee-2dd4-11e2-beb2-4b4cf5087636_story.html
Oh Snap!
 5.
They can shut it down, anyway.
I don’t think they can unless they want to walk away with nothing. I don’t know much about bankruptcy, maybe someone can step in, but they have filed for protection under chapter 11. They can’t just shut it down unless they want to turn everything over to their creditors. I don’t think they can do anything without approval of the court. They still have product brand names that are worth a lot of money.
 6.
keep this subject grounded in reality versus theory.
You can't.
 7. I have the DPMS Panther LR-308AP4. It was the NRA Rifle of the year for 2006. I bought mine new in 2007 and have been very pleased with it. It’s my SHTF rifle, 20 rounds of .308 Winchester makes a brutal battle rifle. It’s better than what our troops have (IMHO). You can buy it new for around $1200. You could certainly spend more building a 308, but I don’t think you could build any better than some of the out of the box 308’s. The aftermarket prices are just crazy for .308 stuff. I wish mine didn’t have a front sight post and had a quad rail. If I had it to do over I would just build what I wanted on the DPMS website and then have a local dealer get it for me. I figured in five years they would be more mainstream and the aftermarket component prices would drop to AR-15 levels. But it hasn’t happened yet. I assume it’s because they cost so much to feed.
 8.
It's their company and they can do with it what they will - well at least they should be able to.....
Not when you are seeking bankruptcy protection. The Judge has to do what is best for the creditors.
 9. I worked off duty security for a company that had very large tanks of flammable liquids the grounds. They had several plants, but the one that had those tanks did not allow firearms on the property or in vehicles in the parking lots of that one plant. For you guys that think you have a right to have a gun in a parking lot, how are you going to respond to the companies that claim a very real safety risk of having guns in the vicinity of hazardous/flammable/explosive materials? Are you and your state legislators in better position to determine those risks than the experts that use the products or processes?
 10.
Thanks for all input. I just want it in the hotel room for the week. It is @the Naval station in Great Lakes. I thought about just not taking it but decided if it can be done within the law then why not.
What city are you staying in?
RTC supports the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004. If you are a peace officer(policeman, etc.) and are required to carry a weapon at all times as a condition of your service; please contact Great Lakes Police Departments’ Deputy Chief Knapp at james.b.knapp@navy.mil or 847-688-5555 well in advance of your visit to discuss procedures and requirements. Weapons possession on federal reservations is highly regulated and those that violate are subject to arrest and prosecution.
I know you are not a LEO, but he would be a good contact to answer your questions. I would ask him if you are staying in a hotel in the area or call the Police Department for that city.
 11. Okay, that narrows it down. Smith & Wesson 686 4” revolver. She doesn’t have a carry permit, so she can’t carry. Worry about that when the time comes. Dual caliber .357MAG or .38 Special, whichever she chooses to shoot. Dual action. Can be used as single or double action. Single action for beginners, double action for more advanced shooters learning trigger control. One of the most popular home defense handguns ever made. (The most popular if you count its heritage). One of the most accurate out of the box handguns you can buy without spending big $. No levers, switches, or magazines; the original point and click interface. American made and guaranteed for life from the company with the best customer support in the industry. EDIT: if she’s not interested in a .22, she shouldn’t be interested in a .380. .380 is a terrible choice for a self-defense round. Sell your .380 and get into self-defense guns. Both your life and hers are worth it. Just because a gun is cheap doesn’t make it a good choice for SD.
 12. Guns are not allowed on the Naval Base even if they are secured in the trunk of your car. They will confiscate it and may not allow you on the base. There is no substitution for an FOID card; it pertains to Illinois residents only and has nothing to do with you. Out of state residents need nothing to have a lawfully transported firearm. Illinois state law allows you have a gun in your hotel room, but cities can pass their own laws. If you are in Chicago or many of the Suburbs you at risk of arrest if it is seen. Check with the Police Department of the city you will be staying in. In case, unloaded, ammo separate and inaccessible to the passenger compartment and you are good to go. They are mainly concerned with immediately accessible. If you can get it quickly and load it; its illegal. “Quickly” is the Officers call. Like anywhere else, whether or not you are charged with anything is how and why the cops found your gun. Thank your daughter for her service. You are going to the right place aren’t you? Naval Academy graduation isn’t held at Great Lakes. 13.
Dave: RE: This. South Carolina is a "right to work state". Nothin more than advancing the union political model at best; or punishing enemies of the state at worst.
"Right to Work”, “Enemies of the State”, my gosh no one is forcing anyone to join a union. The Boeing plant is SC is up, running, doing well, and still non-union. Yes, Boeing had problems, but it wasn’t because the NLRB or any branch on the government stepped on them. It was because their own employees found out about their union busting plans and threatened a strike Boeing did not want to go through.
The only reason that the NLRB could meddle in the Boeing thing is that Boeing is a government contractor; and depends almost exclusively on the government for it's business.
Nonsense. 70% of Boeings sales are overseas and Boeing is one of the largest exporters of manufactured goods in the U.S.
 14.
Dave I am going to have to remember the way you phrase it as purchasing the right to carry. I think it carries a good way of describing it. I do it, but I disagree with one thing, there is a right - says so in the owners manual for the United States. Right now most states do not recognize that right, but it is there. So in essence states, backed by SCOTUS, are in error according to the Constitution. My argument is a philosophical one, not one advocating not having a permit. I am simply advocating passing laws or repealing laws to get back to where the Constitution says we should be - and amend it if necessary. Obviously I would be against that. I also of course am of the mind leave my car out of a businesses policies.
The 2nd amendment does not allow you to strap on a gun and walk down the street; and it never will. Until the Federal government takes over law enforcement for the States (God help us if that ever happens) they don’t have Jack to say about it. All the 2nd amendment does is keeps the Feds from disarming local Police and State Militias. It’s called States Rights and it wrote a new chapter in the owner’s manual of the United States. The side that was on the right side of that issue may have lost the war, but anyone that knows anything about history knows we don’t want to go down that path again. The SCOTUS split the 2nd amendment in half because they had no other choice. You have a right to own a gun, but the state will determine when and where you will carry it. I said we purchase the privilege to carry. A right by its definition can’t be bought.
 15.
I'm pretty damned tired of my rights being trampled on.
You both had a right to stop the transaction at any time. You exercised your rights. I wouldn’t have signed it either; but I wouldn’t see it as someone trampling on my rights. ------------------------------------ EDIT: never mind on the last part, just saw its used.
 16.
I wonder how many airplanes will be built in SC? I'll bet it's none. Didn't Boeing scrap the SC plant?
They recently doubled their rate and are now building five Dreamliner 787’s a month.
 17.
Agree 100% on the fat wrench. I have even started lapping scope rings. Even one piece mounts can benefit. I normally put a drop of blue Loctite on all the threats too. Even torque is real helpful, but screws can shoot loose over time.
I know a lot of people use Loctite, but I just can’t bring myself to use it. I’ve drilled out too many screws and bolts that had the heads stripped out or were broken trying to take them out that were sealed with sealants. Scopes are too fragile and expensive to run that risk. Hit them with a torque wrench once a year (more often if need be).
 18.
Do you think there is more legal risk just going for the head shot initially?
The only legal risk you have is if you are not justified in shooting.
 19. My experience tells me you will draw and fire without thinking about your equipment and you will fire where and how you have trained; chances are you will not have time to do anything else. My training was firing into center body mass without using sights. If you think you will have time to get a sight picture or make a head shot; train that way. If I were a “Shot placement guy” I would be dead.
 20.
Are civil rights allowed to be violated on private property, as in the parking lots of the workplace? How about in restaurants? Is it permissible to discriminate against blacks in these places? Then why is it ok when its the 2nd Amendment that's being violated?
Because the interpreters of the United States Constitution, the Supreme Court of the United States, has ruled that while you have a right to own a gun, where and how you carry it will be controlled by the state you live in. In the state of Tennessee carrying a loaded gun is a crime. Approximately 5% of the state’s population has purchased the privilege to carry; but that is not a Constitutional Right. Last I checked being black was not a crime in any state and I fail to see how that keeps getting brought up in this discussion.
 21.
New Academy sports on Sam Ridley in Smyrna.
Is that open now?
 22.
Dave: RE: This question: ...."Who is forcing unionization on anyone?..." Remember the NLRB and Boeing in SC? SC is a "right to work" state. An accomodation wuz reached here because Boeing is a federal contractor; and they negotiated with the NLRB and reached an "accomodation" (...read that: the feds told boeing they would turn the big contracts off if they didnt seek an accomodation....). The SC boeing plant lost work and Boeing agreed to send more work back to the Seattle, WA plant that is unionized and had struck. That effectively took work from SC workers and send to work to striking workers in Seattle. I predict ya will see some fighting pretty quick over this in other "right to work" states. Think "card check" here instead of "secret ballot" on unionization. What's goin on now is just another round of meddling and union patronage. The original "forcing unionization" thing manifested itself in 1933 when the great god roosevelt came down on the side of the unions in the west virginia coalfields. He did, in fact, force unionization on those who did not want it. leroy
Boeing allowed internal documentation to fall into the hands of the NLRB that showed the SC plant was being built in retaliation for the union exercising their rights. 1800 to 3000 union jobs were going to be lost because of the move. The union was prepared to bring Boeing to its knees to keep that from happening. Boeing knew that before they built the plant and rolled the dice anyway. No one is making anyone join a union. The NLRB was reacting to union breaking tactics being used by Boeing. They have their SC non-union plant.
 23.
I don't see how it makes him a patriot. Would I be more of a patriot if I just disowned all my friends and family that voted for Obama? It is silly and childish, and equates to a temper tantrum similar to this secession nonsense. It is this sorta immature behavior that makes us such a divided country in regard to politics.
Being supportive of his country to the point of possibly taking a financial hit is pretty patriotic. We need people that will step up; not step back or stay in the shadows. We are losing control of our economy which will lead to the demise of our country as we know it. This is pathetic; most Americans are standing by and watching while their country is going down the tubes and either do nothing or make excuses defending their actions that are causing this.
 24.
forcing unionization on "right to work" states, etc...
Who is forcing unionization on anyone?
 25.
The point is, to shut off all business to anyone who voted for a different candidate is a stupid business move and is pretty childish to boot.
It may well be a stupid business move, but he said he is willing to accept the consequences if it is. But being a Patriot certainly isn’t childish.
