It’s not being short sighted; its being a former cop and seeing situations go south. If a cop knocks on my door and tells me he has a gun that was traced to me; I’m going to be able to give him the name and address of who I sold it to. I tell people right up front they have to show me a TN Driver’s license or an HCP. The only one that knows you are a Tennessee resident and are not a convicted felon is you. But if I’m going to be in a courtroom trying to convince a jury I didn’t know you were a felon or that you were from another state, you can bet I won’t be telling them I don’t know his name because he didn’t want to give it. Transferring a firearm is something most people won’t take lightly. If people are sketchy…. Walk away.

You just have to be clear about the requirements before the meet. If I require a DL or HCP, that means I’m going to write down the info from it. I’m not selling to anyone that’s afraid of information exchange. But that’s made clear before we waste our time.

Yes, but unless you are a Supreme Court Justice no one really cares what your interpretation is. I don’t really give a rolling rip down a razor blade what our founding fathers would think about any issue; and they would not expect me to. It’s what the American people think. And they put in place options to make that happen. If it was just a matter of reading it the SCOTUS would be English language professors instead of lawyers. I don’t want to see “The People” get what they want. We will be disarmed and the 2nd repealed.

It’s not a “Gun show sale” it’s a private sale.   If I do a bill of sale….Two copies of the bill of sale. We both sign each copy. I keep one and they keep one. Sometimes I just need to see proof of residence and age.

Help them escape, help those trying to free them locate them, etc. I'm not talking about an armed jail takeover or anything. I certainly never said life was fair. But its not right to tell gun owners the Feds can't enforce the laws, and they find themselves in Federal custody. If those law makers want to beat their chest and talk about what the Feds can and can't do I expect to see them openly doing it. Don't get me wrong, taking a stand against the Feds is great; but if you are going to put anyone in jail; you are going to have to start at the top not the bottom.   If you think Obama and Biden are committing crimes then you go after them legally; not by arresting the lowest common denominator.

The states can do whatever they want. But putting cops in jail isn’t going to be a choice. It isn’t fair to the people either. If its Federal charges the Feds can grab them and say the same thing to the state “Whatcha gonna do about it?” If they aren’t in the state anymore, there isn’t much the state can do to help them.   I will fully support it if Tennessee decides to ignore any federal gun laws. But I will not support putting any Federal Agents doing their job in jail. If that happened I would do anything I could to help free the agent.

It’s not a “Gun show loophole” in this state. Call it what it is; you want to outlaw private gun sales. I don’t have a problem with it but couldn’t say yes or no without knowing the price. You couldn’t just let the FFL’s charge anything they want; gun transfers would be $200 in Murfreesboro.

I haven't found any good law to search court rulings. TN.gov lets you, but you need a name, case number or Judge.   I would guess it would depend on how and why you are having a conversation with the cops about a gun.

You can bet it will be on CNN and MSNBC when they give his permit back; and it won’t be nice.

I agree. Any Federal laws (if any are passed) will be challenged in the court system. I think these types of state legislation is a good message, but to say you are going to start throwing cops in jail is as ignorant as gun owner saying he’s going to start killing people. I expect more than that out of legislators, unenforceable threats have no place in this. I don’t want to hear any of my Tennessee legislators making dumb azz threats they can’t back up. (Not that they haven’t done it before)

The Supreme Court of the United States has ruled the 2nd amendment is an individual right as far as ownership. You make whatever arguments you like about whether a private citizen is part of a well-regulated Militia. But another thing the 2nd amendment does is keeps the government from disarming Police Departments or state militias. The next thing they are going to want to do is have unarmed cops like England. The 2nd would clearly stop that even if the state agreed with it.

No, I’m no ballistics expert and don’t play one on TV, but no faster than it could travel I would guess it would either just tumble or flip around and travel heavy end first, and I doubt it would expand. But that is just guesswork.

Just curious. The wall thickness of the hollow point in that picture appears to be about 1/4 to 3/8 inch thick. I don’t think they would expand. It appears to me that they would just screw up any aerodynamics of the round.

I figured something like that happened when I read it. If that is the case some pawn shops will be losing their FFL’s and face criminal charges.

Violating Federal gun laws, income tax evasion; it’s a dangerous game. Those doing it know absolutely well the risk they are taking. I would imagine it is more a case of crossing the wrong person or having your name come up in an investigation.   There are several stories on the internet of people busted. 25-50 a year seems to be the norm.

More cops, bigger government, the money printing presses are rolling full speed; what’s not to like. BTW how many of you noticed your check was less this week?

Putting words in my mouth again? It’s double jeopardy. Was it a problem with you when they did it to the LA cops?   They were home free and they kept poking the bear with a stick. They got bit. I don’t know enough about the case to comment any more than that.   ATF is involved that usually means gun charges.   We don’t have a justice system. But this may be justice; who knows.

Just as the Rodney King cops found out; state is state and Federal is something different.   As we have been discussing for a couple of days; free speech allows you to do and say stupid stuff. Just ask these two brothers. From the Gun Control Act....  So my guess would be that you can buy them but it would be illegal to sell them without a license.

I think most of us are only familiar with two cases where this has happened. I wonder how many others have been revoked where the person was not charged with a crime or violation of the requirements, but was deemed a threat to public safety. Anyone know of any others? Can a MOD fix the title to read "Anyone else had an HCP revoked?". I don't know what happened.
