Greg Rodriguez has been killed...
DaveTN replied to Magiccarpetrides's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I have been to plenty of meetings after trade shows in homes, restaurants, bars and even Hotel rooms, business women were even sometimes present. I don’t care if he was hitting it on the floor of the trade show; there is absolutely no justification for what this chicken chit did. He left a whole bunch of victims including his own kid; and then took the easy way out. -
President Can Use Drone Strikes Against Americans on U.S. Soil

I do not fear being shot by a drone, nor do I fear being targeted as a terrorist. -
President Can Use Drone Strikes Against Americans on U.S. Soil
DaveTN replied to Moped's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Saying that UAV’s are going to open fire on innocent American citizens is as ridiculous as the anti-gun people saying that just because we have “assault rifles†we are going to start killing people. The obvious difference is the latter has actually happened.... a lot. I love technology and think it’s a great thing. In war, Armed UAV’s are “smart weapons†that don’t have to kill everyone in the area when they have a target. In civilian use do I care that they may be used to find pot growers that are committing criminal acts right out in the open, or that they may be “Patrol vehicles†that have the ability to fly? Absolutely not, use those type flights for training operators. As far as the President using drones to execute innocent Americans on American soil…. Let me know when that happens. As far as a drone being used to take out an active shooter or a barricaded suspect… more power to them. -
Use a scoped rifle or binoculars to get a plate number as they leave. Give it to the cops when you call in a suspicious vehicle. Engaging suspects without cover could turn very bad very quickly for you. Living out in the county they may be gone before a cop can get there, but if you can get a plate number, it will be put out and they may be stopped later.

ACLU Launches Nationwide Police Militarization Investigation
DaveTN replied to LowBb's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
They aren’t on our side. Of course they don’t want SWAT or Officers having military weapons; they don’t want you to have them, and they don’t want you to have the valid argument that the cops have them. This isn’t rocket science. The economy is getting worse. The worse it gets; the more cops the cities will need. It has nothing to do with Obama. -
Could the .22’s have been for training Police Departments scouts, a PD sponsored competition rifle team, or simply for the same reason many of us have them; cheap rifle trigger time? Some of the most elite SWAT and HRT teams use 1911’s. I love my 1911’s, but I wouldn’t pick one as a secondary weapon. But the best trained and most respected people in that field would; so I say give them what they want.

I had to buy my own gun from a Department approved list. Go to that; people take better care of stuff when they have to pay for it.

Working Armed Security how are they excluded from Signs?
DaveTN replied to Patton's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
There is no “seems like†to it. Their “piece of dirt†or their business and they call the shots. That is the way it is supposed to be. If you don’t like their rules; don’t enter their property, or take your business elsewhere; they don’t want it. It’s a crime to carry a gun in the state of Tennessee. I get to do it because I pay the state for the “privilegeâ€. To try to say my privilege trumps property owners rights is a thug government and will turn the public against us. If you don’t have a vested interest in the property no one cares what your opinions are about it. That’s freedom. -
Sounds like everyone is shutting up because of a threat of legal action. Is the department going to have to have the Officers and armorers that had problems testify in court because Glock got their feelings hurt? Ford, Chevy, whatever… every Chief and every Officer has a preference in vehicles… and guns. It’s up to the Department to have conversations with the city council about what they want and why. If those conversations need to be public… so be it. Tell Glock to go pound sand.

I think you would be hard pressed to build any M1A for less than you could buy a Springfield National Match or a Socom if you want the tactical look. (Around $2K) There are a lot of far less expensive rifles that can out shoot an M1A if you have the ability to put a .308 round though a deer’s eye at 200 yards. Are you locked in on an M1A?

LEOSA Applies to Military Police
DaveTN replied to c.a.willard's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
The only way to do that is for the state to make carrying a right; not a privilege. Make a law that the business can’t be named in a lawsuit when you hurt someone on their property and we would see a lot of those signs go away. -
Here is the policy for the Army as of 2006. It appears to be okay if it was from a civilian relationship outside the Army. But like anything, even if it’s legal; it could kill a military career. http://www.atsc.army.mil/crc/DA%20Frat%20Policy%20grn.pdf

LEOSA Applies to Military Police
DaveTN replied to c.a.willard's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
It supersedes state carry laws; otherwise there would be no point in it. It allows those covered to carry in Illinois and other states that only allow cops to carry. When it first came out Chicago City Administration tried to say they wouldn’t honor it; but they backed down. Of course if you don’t travel it would have no advantage. -

? It would let you carry in all states if you are covered by LEOSA. -

As DS said I think he has to qualify with the Department he retired from. But if I were him I would look into pursuing it. When traveling, it would be the only way he could carry in some states. -
NY Judge issues injunction against SAFE Act
DaveTN replied to Chucktshoes's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The Supreme Court left the door open for banning a single type of weapon. They will either have to address that or leave it up to the State and Federal District Courts. -
It’s legal if you can get the carrier to do it; I couldn’t. Since I made a promise, I had to drive it to Chattanooga. That won’t happen again.

How would you react? OUTRAGEOUS!!
DaveTN replied to KaNuckles's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The teacher and everyone in the school district that supports what she did should be fired; they don’t have the intelligence to be teaching children. WTF is CSCOPE, and who is paying for their services? -
I met someone from Beretta today. I invited them to move their company to Tennessee.

The only place in Middle Tennessee (besides Arnold) that comes close to that is the 300 meter range at Manchester.

No, if it’s merely a traffic complaint the Police will generally run your plate and then put it out as a “Make your own case†(reckless, DUI, suspended/revoked, etc). If it rises to the level of a criminal charge, they can take a report and possibly arrest you. It’s happened a few times when guns were displayed or threats were made. Of course every Officer and every department may have their own way of handling things.

Powerful. But it shows that the sheep are electing our legislators. Bongino was soundly defeated by democratic incumbent Ben Cardin. (55 to 27%) I have long said my right to bear arms does not come from a piece of paper. It is also a violation of States Rights for the Feds to pretend they can legislate gun control. In Tennessee we enjoy the privilege of being able to bear arms; but do not have the right. As the economy changes, industries are lost, and wages drop, our legislators will be elected based on what government handouts they support. Those legislators aren’t typically pro-gun.

I find this story both funny and bizarre. I think the Sherriff used bad judgment if he gave the info to the store owner after he found out they did nothing more than use the restroom. I ran every license plate that was involved in my calls and every driver’s license that passed through my hands. Most of the time that was done through my personal radio and the people at the scene could hear it. I would not have done that for someone calling about a person using the restroom. On patrol I routinely ran the plates of vehicles that were suspicious to me. Courts have continually held that there is no expectation of privacy on a vehicle license and running it is not a search covered under the 4th amendment. Each state and each Police Department does (or should) have written procedures for accessing and disseminating that information. There is both Tennessee state law and Federal law on this, but it does not apply to Police departments carrying out their duties. Tennessee Highway Patrol fired a Trooper for running background checks that had nothing to do with his work. He became a target after he ran a check on a reporter that had written an article critical of the THP. A state probation officer was arrested for running plate numbers of his neighbors. He said they were “illegalsâ€.
