They would be looking for murders that killed and maimed my fellow citizens. They would not be violating my rights by asking to look and I would not be giving up any rights by agreeing so as to not impede their investigation. I doubt many people turn them down and if someone did and I was an Officer I would be concerned that the guy may be standing on the other side of the door holding a gun to their head. I would secure the house with Officers to wait for a warrant and move on to the next house. Even with a warrant they can only look where the items they are searching for could be; in this case a person. They aren’t going to go rummaging through drawers. And no, when searching for suspects they don’t have to be accusing you of a crime to search your property. This is all assuming no Officers were chasing the suspect or saw him in your home. If that is the case hot pursuit and plain view could kick in and no warrant would be needed.

Senate rejects tougher background checks
DaveTN replied to Beretta Bob's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
This is how this guy works. If what is in the Constitution or what Congress decides is not agreeable to him he thinks he can just say “It shall be so! “ We will then see if the Legislative branch and the Judicial branch just stand by and let him do it, or they take action. At some point he needs to be reminded we have a system of checks and balances. -
55-8-115. Driving on right side of roadway -- Exceptions. B. Upon all roadways any vehicle proceeding at less than the normal speed of traffic at the time and place and under the conditions then existing shall be driven in the right-hand lane then available for traffic, or as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway, except when overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction or when preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway.

I worked a traffic car for a few years and couldn’t wait to get out of it and into district patrol. I have seen plenty of bodies pulled out of wrecks and done plenty of interviews in the ER. Traffic enforcement is where a bunch of a department’s budget is spent and I challenge anyone to show me that where they live “real†criminals hurt and kill more people than bad drivers. If you are screaming in pain in the ER or attending a family member’s funeral I doubt it will make a lot of difference to you that the cause was a bad driver and not a “real†criminal That said… I would ticket a driver slowing up the left lane of traffic over a speeder any day. However, in our state we a law against “Impeding Trafficâ€; I don’t think Tennessee has a law like that, but I don’t know. I know people that make a turn on a roadway and get right into the left lane whether passing or not. I usually have to pose the question “Did you get your driver’s license out of cracker jack box?†Having the right of way or not being at fault only counts if you live through it. Many people don’t think about the driver that is so intoxicated he hardly knows what is going on and can’t react to much of anything you do. People involved in accidents go crazy about who is at fault and some have even escalated it to a criminal arrest because either they got a ticket or the other person didn’t get a ticket. Cops don’t determine fault in an accident. Insurance companies act on their own, and courts will make decisions in civil cases. Tickets are just for violations of the vehicle code; not fault in an accident.

No need to flame; buts that's just not right. Would I do it? No.

Senate rejects tougher background checks

Obama isn’t that upset. Gun control is an issue he could use to get people to take their eye off the ball (the economy). -
In the old days if you were being an idiot someone would pull you through your car window and kick your azz. Now a days they put you in jail for that.

Not that it matters now that he’s booted, but 39-17-1307 covers it. I’m kind of curious as to what kind of “Law Enforcement†doesn’t know how to find out what the law is.

They have opened a facility in Kentucky, and in last year’s contact the union negotiated to represent any new plants for the next five years. Sounds like someone is thinking about it. If most of their machines are near the end of their service life they might be able to sell the facility and move. But moving machines is no small cost. We spent $150K to move one machine from NY to TN. plus they would run the risk of losing many of their best people. They couldn’t move to Tennessee and hire enough skilled machinists to get the job done. They won’t hurt NY by leaving. The will only hurt the employees that have been loyal to them and possibly the shareholders and customers if they do something stupid financially because of politics. But putting all that aside, I’m just still at a loss as how anyone can see how Remington has turned on us or sold us out.

 What makes you think they are "perfectly fine with it"? They are a victim in this just like we are.

This makes me wonder why we even have a Supreme Court!
DaveTN replied to E4 No More's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The SCOTUS has answered the question on the right to keep arms; they have given the indication of how they would rule on the right to bear arms. It’s States Rights VS The 2nd Amendment. Most of us are pretty sure how they would rule. They have made it pretty clear that you have a right to own a gun, but the State will decide when and where you can carry in public. There are other cases in the wings. The 7th Federal District has ruled that Illinois has 180 days to come up with a plan that is not a complete ban on carry. The SCOTUS generally hears cases that the Federal Districts don’t agree on. They decided not to hear the case and gave no comment. That is not unusual. -
TN man who received Obama pardon still can't have guns
DaveTN replied to billyscott's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
There was a case working its way through the Tennessee courts of a (GA or AL) guy that had a full pardon from the Governor of his state, the state he was convicted in, and they turned him down in Tennessee for an HCP. A top Tennessee criminal attorney that also specializes in gun cases told my friend you can get all the expungements and pardons you want, but if your convictions was for drugs or violence you won't get your gun rights back. Neither of those things seem to apply in this case, so I guess either they don’t want to, or what the TBI is saying that there is no way to do it is true. -
They are expanding in Kentucky. I am at a loss on how anyone can want to boycott a company like Remington because of anti-gun laws a state passes.
-
How is Remington selling out your rights? They are our brothers in this fight. They are also victims of out of control legislation. If they hadn’t taken the contract (one that any manufacturer anywhere in the world would be all over), it’s possible our manufacturing base would take another hit from foreign manufacturing. Comparing a 1200 person heavy manufacturing to facility to somewhere like Magpul that contracts out the heavy lifting isn’t fair. They can’t just up and move. If you kill off all the American gun manufacturers the government can then ban foreign imports…. Game over. I support Remington, Smith & Wesson, Ruger, and all the other American manufacturers and want them to know that most of us support them in their struggles against the anti-gunners. I am disappointed that on a U.S. gun forum I have to use the word “mostâ€; I should be able to use the word “allâ€.

Didn't see this on Fox...or any other news network.

I wonder if prior to committing home invasion and murder these illegal aliens had ever been in police custody and let go instead of being deported to their country. -
NSA Constructing A BIG Secret Data Center in Utah
DaveTN replied to gun sane's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Because they got the tail number off an aircraft and found out who the owner is? I think I can do that. As far as this building goes, with all the technology advances in hi resolution imaging; they need to store all that data somewhere. NSA doesn’t generally give out information someone doesn’t have a need to know. -
I have 40’s in all sizes. Compact and hi-cap don’t go together. My M&P 40 Compact is nice, but its not really compact, just short, it can however use a full size 15 round mag from my full size if need be. I consider my M&P Shield and Kahr MK40 to be compacts, or some would call micro compacts. But they are 6 or 7 rounds. Compact to me implies “thinâ€, that rules out double stacks.

Unless the state legislature changes the state law; it won’t be up to Haslam and his crew. It will be decided in the courts. But yes, if the state passes laws requiring background checks on private sales I have no doubt it will hold up. Those that want to test it will be arrested and go to trial, just like with any other law.

Who was mentally unstable or a felon? Did they lead anyone to believe they were barred from buying firearms? I don’t care what they do with background checks as long as I don’t have to pay extra for it. Yes, there are going to be some people with mental health issues that don’t get to have guns. That’s the whole point. But three guys from Atlanta went to three states and unlawfully purchased guns. Their company still has those illegally transferred guns and they have documented that in the media. Pointing out that people can break the law… are you kidding me? Well Officer…. This is my camera man Bob and we were just doing a news story of how easy it is to buy illegal drugs. And that’s why that kilo of Coke is in my trunk. No harm no foul; just a news story Officer.

I support all U.S. gun manufacturers and will continue to do so. Remington can’t up and move a manufacturing facility without substantially increasing costs to us. It could bankrupt them. This is just another way for the gun haters to turn us against each other… don’t fall for it.

.22 about to go through the roof????
DaveTN replied to Steelharp's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
What Katrina was for gas; Sandy Hook is for ammo. We are driving the prices, not the government or the gun haters…. Hoarders and those trying to make a buck. Once those that have irrational fears of ammo bans get their stash; prices will drop. Unlike gas, we aren’t forced to buy ammo and with the ammo companies operating at full output eventually the shelves will start to refill. If the government starts to tax ammo the way they do cigarettes; we may have a price problem. -
I don’t think they bought anything did they? I thought they just implied that they were felons and wanted to see if people would still talk to them so they could make a big deal out it. I don’t remember them actually making any transfers. But I could be wrong. These guys came to our state with the intention of violating laws we have to obey or we get arrested. They violated those laws and went back to Atlanta. I want to know who in our state justice department put their stamp of approval on this.
-
I too am interested in how CNN can show such total disregard for the law. CNN knowingly violated both Federal law and the laws of three states. CNN Security is now in possession of multiple weapons that they were told were illegally transferred. As a Tennessee resident I would like to know if our state Attorney General gave them a free pass to violate our laws and then show those violations on TV. Why is the ATF not acting on the Federal violations? Did they give approval to do this? And yes, the sellers also broke the law if they sold to out of state residents. You are required to know that.

State suspends gun carry permit for James Yeager
DaveTN replied to ironsniper1's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I could be wrong, but if I remember correctly Sarti had no guns seized, and is not banned from owning guns. He did have his HCP suspended because of a psych evaluation; but we have no information on that other than what came from him. I watched Sarti’s videos. I watched him wave a gun around and ramble non-sense and I watched the video where he carried on about how you need to be prepared to kill children. He is a nut case. I’m not concerned about people like Sarti, Yeager, or Kwick losing their HCP’s. They were all attention seekers; they got what they wanted. Of course we are left to try to explain their stupid antics when people bring it up. When Sandy Hook occurred many of us were saying it wasn’t a gun issue, it’s a mental health issue; nut cases shouldn’t have access to guns. Then when people with mental issues get nailed, some get on here and start whining its gun control. That’s ridiculous. Someone that makes a video threating to kill people should not have an HCP. A Judge disagrees with me and that fine. Judges let people go all the time; but to say he was vindicated is not accurate. The state acted swiftly and did what they could; good for them. -
State suspends gun carry permit for James Yeager
DaveTN replied to ironsniper1's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
For acting on what could be a credible threat? They should get a letter of commendation for stepping up and doing their job without weeks of hand wringing. I don’t know Yeager, and don’t really care to, but even he said what he did was stupid. He realized that with an hour of posting the video. The system worked the way it should; he made a threat to start shooting people (killing people if my memory serves me right) and they pulled his privilege until he had a hearing. A Judge (or whoever oversees the hearings) decided he was not a threat and gave him his privileges back. Was it expensive for him? I’m sure if he didn’t have people sending him donations it was; being stupid can sometimes be expensive.
