Have any legislators purposed a bill to make Tennessee the 5th Constitutional carry state? They passed the TFFA (even though no one will test it). They passed legislation to allow guns in bars; they drove the parking lot bill down the throats of private business. The next obvious step is to make it legal for all citizens to be able to carry. We are at the end of “Baby Stepsâ€; it’s time to join the big boys.

It bothered me when I saw they want to have legislative control of what they call a “Resourceâ€. Acknowledging that ammo is a resource to be controlled by the government is exactly what we are fighting against. The amount of ammo we can get is controlled by a free market and free enterprise. There are plenty of ammunition manufacturers out there. If they can justify the cost of hardware and personnel to increase output; they are doing that now. If they think the demand will return to normal and they will have presses sitting idle and people laid off; they won’t. ATK operates Lake City for the government. If they need more ammunition manufacturing capabilities increase the output of Lake City or open another facility and make more ammo. If they think this ammo purchase is not necessary either; make the head of DHS (or whoevers brain child this was) justify it to congress, or cut their budget. This is really very simple, they have X amount of agents that qualify or practice X times a year using X numbers of rounds. If they need that much ammo; they need it. If they don’t; turn down the request. They start calling it a “resource†that they need to control and they are going to start throwing a ridiculous tax on it like they do with Gas, Cigarettes and Liquor. Everyone on here seems to be crying about .22 ammo. Is the government buying up all the .22 ammo? No, of course they aren’t. A panic caused a spike coupled with the scammers buying up all the ammo and reselling it. I don’t want to see any laws added. But before I would suggest the government control it I would suggest the obvious. Make it illegal to engage in the business of selling of ammo without an FFL.

The guy got what he deserved. But with deep pockets like Dollar General being involved; I see a civil suit coming. I guess we may find out if a DA’s decision not to prosecute satisfies the law that blocks a civil suit if the shooting is justified.

Since one guy was charged with driving on a revoked license; I’m guessing this stolen gun incident that landed three guys in jail started as a simple traffic stop. http://www.thetimesnews.com/news/crime/possession-of-a-stolen-firearm-1.120015

Guns don’t have titles….yet. It’s a risk we all take when buying guns in private sales. If you run it though a database and it’s stolen; you will lose it. It has an owner somewhere and it is his property that needs to be returned to him. So if you are going to run it though a database do as suggested and have it transferred through an FFL. Don’t buy a gun from anyone that won’t show you ID. You shouldn’t own a gun that you don’t know the name of the person that sold it to you.

He must have thought he was in pretty bad shape for a convicted felon to go to the hospital after a shooting.

I’m all for it. I pay taxes on purchases locally and I also pay taxes on on-line purchases that have a presence in Tennessee. That tax money goes to my state. If that number drops, the state will not spend less; they will increase taxes in other areas or institute a state income tax. The money will leave our state and go to the states that have the largest on-line retailers… CA, NY, etc. There are no free rides. I’m just surprised it has not been done yet.

Murfreesboro Police gun buyback this Saturday

I think it has to do with the fact that some people are so afraid of the possible liability of selling a gun. Grandpa dies and Grandma doesn’t know the laws on selling or doesn’t want to deal with strangers. I seriously doubt the “target market†that have the guns they want are trading in guns for a $25 gift card. But hey, I would rather see them doing something like this instead of being occupied with ways to get guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens. This will have absolutely zero impact on gun availability, but will give someone the ability to say they are doing something. It impacts no one. -

According to this story… http://www.newschannel5.com/story/16610924/officer-in-trouble-for-trying-to-keep-confiscated-gun The way I read the law; that could mean they sell them. Of course I doubt they do that based on the non-sense claim this is providing some great community service getting these guns off the street. -
Exactly. This isn’t going on in all jails and prisons. If it’s going on here they need a change in administration.

Murfreesboro Police gun buyback this Saturday

They did one here in January; they got 20 guns. They posted a picture of what looked like pretty decent old S&W 38. If they had received any evil weapons I would guess they would have posted a pic of those. These people are turning their guns in for a $25 gift card when they know they could get much more; so I doubt there will be a lot of gun selling going on. -

Hospital security can tell you to leave if you don’t have business there. I can’t picture the cops or hospital security allowing a bunch of gun owners to approach citizens trying to turn in guns; but I could be wrong. -

39-17-1317. Short version... "legitimate law enforcement purposes" leaves is pretty wide open. -
Price VS. Product. Smith & Wesson has done a great job of making all the options on their M&P line available. Just compare the price VS. the options and the specifications you want. I paid the extra money for the 15T, just depends on what you want. The M&P 308 is out now; I got to get me one of these.

They let them serve in the military; I bet this gets a lot of attention. The key to it is that they are legal. But if Obama gets his way all the illegals will become legal and not only will they be able to be on a jury; they will be able to vote. It would be the final nail in the coffin of our economy. In the words of Nikita Khrushchev "America will fall without a shot being fired. It will fall from within."

Don’t shoot it in an alloy framed J-frame unless the alloy is Stainless Steel. J-frames aren’t typically range guns so you probably wouldn’t damage a steel or stainless gun with limited shooting. Smith & Wesson made some all stainless J-frames at the request of the Treasury Department that were rated +P+. It you want power; get a .357 J-frame. Keep in mind Police Departments used .38 and .38 +P for many years with good results. Of course there are better calibers, but for the application of a small framed revolver the .38 is fine.

Doesn’t matter who owns the property. If the son lives there and has given his son (the grandson) permission to be there the cops can’t make him leave. They can arrest him if there is a domestic violence, assault, or some other criminal complaint. It sucks, I know I have handled many of these complaints. (not in this state however) This is one of the cases where the law is at odds with justice. Grandma needs to legally evict her son, get an order of protection, or both. I think the domestic violence law is one of the most abused laws that has ever been created. However it could be used to end this very quickly. Has he made any threats?

You should go talk to a Command Officer at whatever Police Department would respond to the call and hear what they have to say. Here is a link to Chattanooga City Code. http://www.chattanooga.gov/city-council/city-code Here is a hunting story that touches on the issue. http://middlesborodailynews.com/bookmark/17111949 Keep in mind that AG opinions are not law. It appears that the state and local governments are at odds. It could be expensive to get caught in the middle.

If they can do it to them they can do it to us. (Limit buying) This is BS. DHS isn’t keeping us from getting ammo. Hoarders and those trying to make a profit off the panic buyers is why we don’t have a good supply of ammo. If there was a shortage of resources (ammo) manufacturing would be steeping up to fill the demand. But they aren’t because they know it won’t last long enough to justify the cost.

I’ve been through shoot-don’t shoot simulators; they are good training. But the best I have ever been through was when actors from a local college were used for traffic stops. They were scripted, but they could make changes based on your actions or reactions. You learn real quick the good guys don’t always get it right, and just because you have a gun doesn’t mean you will survive. Great training, but still not like the real thing when you know it’s not real.

Only for a conviction; not to take you to trial. -
Well the panic buying is happening again...

There will be plenty of ammo. But like gasoline, now that they know what people will really pay; the prices may not drop back to where they were. -
U.S.S. Arizona survivors can be interred with their shipmates.
DaveTN replied to bubbiesdad's topic in General Chat
I went to the 60th anniversary of Pearl Harbor; it was amazing. Early on the morning of December 7th I listened as some of the survivors told their stories. It was a very emotional experience. I have been on the USS Missouri several times over the years and I love every minute of it. Mighty Mo stands guard over the Arizona. Make sure if you go you take that tour also. Standing where the surrender of Japan was signed and hearing the behind the scenes stories of what happened on that day is very interesting. Young people I talk to are surprised when they hear the facts of why the attack happened.
